Dr. Chris Mann - Dr. information in Greenville, NC
Quilter at Heart posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am interested in speaking with someone concerning the lapband procedure. I live about an hour away from Greenville but definitely have faith in the physicians in Greenville. My husband suffered a massive heart attack 2 years ago and through the Lord and the surgeons at Pitt Memorial - he survived. The quality of care outweighs what we can receive in Jacksonville. Do you have a website or may I get the information to contact your office? Thank you for your time, God bless, Jaleena -
Happy New Year!! Was just wondering if anyone is from NC? I have read several posts and have seen lost of places represented but nothing from NC. I'm just trying to find a doctor in my area that does the lap band procedure. I have an appointment scheduled for the information seminar with one suregery center in Greenville, but am curious if there are others? God bless!

Hi, How long ago did you start the process? Do they explain both the by pass and the lapband at the seminar? I have several friends who think that the bypass would be the best - I was thinking the lapband and now I just don't know which!! What made you decide? Look forward to hearing from you! God bless, Jaleena -
What do you drink for 2 weeks?
Quilter at Heart posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After reading all of the posts about everyone getting ready for surgery, I can't help but ask - What do you drink during the time you are shrinking your liver? I've seen carnation instant breakfast, diet soda, chicken broth, etc. But to be honest with you, I've looked through my cabinets and tried to come up with different options and my mind isn't coming up with much! And do you feel like you are starving? How on earth do you feel full during this time? -

Hey there, Don't let others make you feel bad about doing something for you. I understand the guilt from others but have decided that it's my body. I watched my mother hurt every time she took a step or got up and down - for so many years. I know that she would have enjoyed life so much more if she just would have felt better. So, because of her love for me, I know she would want me to be without pain. I lost her when she was only 58 - your age exactly - so young!! Now here I am staring 50 right in the face (next month) and I don't want to die like she did - in constant pain. My doctor feels that losing the weight (291) would give me the jump start to helping me feel like moving again. I have my initial appointment in a little more than a week. I hope everything goes smooth. If you need any encouragement, just give me a post and we will chat some more. God has blessed me with this life - it's my responsibility to make the best of it!! Blessings, Jaleena in NC

Your Life Before PreOp Diet...OR Lap-Band
Quilter at Heart replied to Pamela B.'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
No waiting list here - I called about the program and got an appointment two weeks out! I thought that was pretty quick. I'm not sure what order things will come in after that but I hope things move quickly. I have ordered a few protein product samples to sample so I can have some variety when I do the liquids for two weeks prior to surgery. Are you planning ahead yet? God bless, Jaleena in NC -
Congratulations!! What a way to start a new year!! I'm not even scheduled for the information day until the 13th but reading everyone's post has me so excited!! I have tried so many things and I really hope and pray that this will be the answer to helping me find the thinner person I was. Weight has been something to hide behind for so many years - not quilte sure at this age, what I will do with a new me, but if it makes my time longer to spend with my husband and family - then it will have been worth it all!! Good luck and best wishes for the best year in 2011 God bless, Jaleena

Sounds like you have a great attitude!! Congratulations on your success so far!! Did you have many health problems that led you to the decision to be banded? Had you tried many other weight loss programs? I have an appointment for the seminar part in the next 2 weeks. I sure hope this is going to work out for me!! Happy New Year! God bless, Jaleena

2 days post lap band
Quilter at Heart replied to SWEETGRACE's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations on your accomplishments so far! It's so exciting to read of how well you are doing!! I am going to be attending the information day on the 13th so I'm hoping that my surgery won't be too far out. During the liver shrinking time, did you try any of the protein drinks or just fill up with other stuff. I have tried looking through my cabinets and I'm not sure I even know of enough liquid products to get me through that time period. Did you get creative? Were you creative in trying to fill the food cravings? I am a quilter and I design quilt patterns too, so I already know that I will fill my days with sewing and designing. I wish you a very Happy New Year!! God bless, Jaleena -
Beginner questions
Quilter at Heart replied to StacyS's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Stacy, I'm in NC - so we're on opposite sides of the country!! When do you see the surgeon? I am just beginning the adventure and still have pretty much no idea where this is all going to go. My BMI is 44% and my weight 291 - so just a little more than a month away from 50 - my doctor is very concerned. I go for a stress test tomorrow - guess we will see what the heart has to say about all of this!! lol Take care and keep in touch! God bless, Jaleena -
Hi Jenna, Sure sounds like you are doing great!! Did you have to loose weight in order to have the surgery done? I am going for my first seminar in a few weeks and just have so many questions. I've only been on this site for about a week but have learned so much for the people here!! Keep in touch - your experience helps us all! God bless and have a great day! Quilter

Hello, My name is Jaleena and I live along the coast of NC. Like most of the postings I've read, I am trying to make a decision regarding lapband surgery. At almost 50, my options for weight loss seems to be running out and my doctor has suggested this route. I've stumbled across this forum by googling - hoping that this might answer some of the questions I have. I've had a weight problem for all of my adult life - both of my parents were obese and I know that I use food as a stress reliever. I have 2 grown children and just recently became a grandmother! As a Christian, I struggle with viewing my weight issues as faith issues and see it as another failure in my life. So, talk is good and I have never been afraid to talk and I do plan on listening - or reading - any ideas of where to start? Had my first visit to the cardiologist for EKG and an appointment for a stress test on the 30th of this month - what a way to head into 2011. I covet your prayers. God bless, Jaleena

Jessica, Thanks for the encouragement. Wow, looks like you are doing good before the surgery - you've lost a lot of weight already! Did you have to do it in order to have the surgery? I've read different reports and was just wondering!! I am really looking forward to this adventure and hope that I will remember to give all of the glory to the Lord! God bless and keep in touch! Good morning from NC!! We still have snow on the ground...yeah snow...something that never happens here but it started snowing Christmas night and snowed all day the next and temps are just now getting warm enough for some of it to melt!! Goodbye snow is all I can say!! It's beautiful but one day is enough!! Yep, I've always been told that I'm big boned and that I carry my weight so well.....what people don't know is that for the most part - the carrying it has been in pain. My knees give me troubles constantly, I also have RLS and have torn calf muscle, and so many other issues that are all from my weight. I can't wait to be pain free one day. I grew up with my mom constantly hurting and I watched the pain begin to show in her walk about 10 years before she passed. My husband told me the other night that he sees me beginning to walk like her. (sad part is that I noticed it a few weeks ago myself.) So with that said, sounds like we have to look to HIM for our strength. I am so blessed the my primary care doctor is an awesome Christian man and he quotes scripture to me each time I see him. I even asked the clinic that I called yesterday for the seminar appointment if any of their doctors were Christian. The lady on the phone said she understood why I asked and that she was sure I would know that answer when I read the information she was sending me. So first step check!! Hope you have an awesome day! God bless, Jaleena -
Hey SarahGirl, With the risk of sounding my age....mom's usually are right!! She knows your habbits and probably feels strongly that things will be ok!! Just run with it girl and enjoy the adventure! Keep us posted! God bless, Jaleena
