    How to deal with friends?

I had my lapband surgery last Monday and I am shocked that not one of my two best friends (I thought) have even called me to see how I am doing this week. I don't understand it at all, and I never would have anticipated it. Neither one are obese at all, but I thought they supported my decision, but now I am doubting that. I am feeling a little sorry for myslef this week..between the liquid diet, getting dehydrated and in the ER for fluids and lack of concern from my friends, I am feeling a little emotional. I will go back to work tomorrow...maybe I need more human contact than my husband and kids!
  2. I was banded on 12/27. I felt fantastic after surgery - I wasn't even really sore and they controlled the nausea and dry heaves really well (and I get super sick on any kind of ride). Unfortunately, I wasn't getting enough fluids at home I guess and ended up in the ER last night (great New Year's!). After some IV fluids and meds for dizzyness/nausea, I felt well enough to go home. I am making sure I am drinking enough today. I really can't wait to get off the liquid diet - if I never see broth again, it will be too soon. 8 more days! I thought I would have the hardest time getting over wanting to drink a Coke Zero, but I can't believe I have't even craved one. I am proud of myself for that.
  3. Well, not a great night last night. Spent 4 hours in the ER getting fluids and nausea/dizzyness meds. I knew I wasn't eating or drinking enough, but got caught up in a vicious cycle of heaving everything up. I felt 100% better after treatment and have been feeling good today and making sure I am drinking Water and gatorade. I knew it was too good to be true! Ifelt great after surgery and up to yesterday afternoon. I felt well enough to do a little cleaning this afternoon, so hopefully I am on the way. I so miss eating something with some texture, though. I don't know how I am going to sip any more broth for the next 8 days - anyone have any ideas?
  4. Hi Lora - I was just banded on the 27th and I am 43 and 5'5". Sounds like we have a lot in common, including our beginning weight. It would be great for us to bounce things off each other! Good luck (oh, yeah...I am not too far from you, I am in central Nebraska).
  5. Had my banding Monday the 27th at 7:30 AM. I was out and in recovery by 9:30. I felt great all day Monday and Tuesday - no gas pains, no incision pains! Had a little bit of a panic attack in the pre-op area, but as soon as the anesthesiologist gave me the Versed I was perfectly calm. The nurses were so great - and my surgeon even surprised me with a gift and balloons for being his first patient! How great is that - the package had a small silver fork and spoon (just the right size for new eating), a pedometer, a glass that holds 4 oz and a bracelet that you move the notches for each 2lbs you lose. Isn't he great?? I am feeling a little hungry today and I am sure I need to up my H20 intake. Had a Carnation Instant Breakfast and tinned cream of wheat for breakfast and lunch. It is so nice to have you guys in the same situation to talk to!
  6. I am also having Lap Band surgery on the 27th (tomorrow!) I am not nervous about the rest of my life, but I am about the anesthesia. I know this is a normal fear and I just will have to get through it until 7:30 AM tomorrow, if all goes as planned. I was on a 2 week low-fat diet. I found myslef cheating a little bit yesterday on Christmas. Had some popcorn at the movies and 3 bites of an appetizer at the restaurant. I lost 7 lbs this past week, so I really hope I didn't mess up my liver yesterday. This is the first time my surgeon is doing a lap-band (and the first time the hospital is as well), but I feel really lucky. He is having a specialist proctor coming from Chicago to be with him during the operation (the dr. has 2 patients scheduled tomorrow). If he didn't decide to do this locally, I would have to go 3-4 hours away and I have seen how non-compliant other banders are in the rural area I live due to the distance from the dr. and fills. Plus, I fugure he is not going to let anything bad happen to his very first patient, right?? I look forward to hearing how it went for everyone else this week. Good luck everyone!
