  1. I'm feeling better now. Minor nausea here and there but able to eat soft food in very very small amounts. Just sooooo tired all the time. I feel like I've been hit by a truck! But I wouldn't go back and undo being banded because I know in the long run this will really help me. I love all the support I get here- really, you all make a difference each and every day that I come here and read posts. Thanks guys and gals! Hugs, Hautemama
  2. Since being banded on Jan 11th, I have been hospitalized and sicker than a dog. Finally, my surgeon put me out on a 4 week disability until I'm more stable. He's stumped as to why I'm getting dry heaves and feelings of faintness. I really thought this would be easier than it has been. I'm a nurse and thought I had done enough research before getting this done. Sorry guys, just having a down moment. I think I need a pep talk. Hautemama lost 24 pounds
  3. I was banded on Jan 11th and readmitted for three days for dehydration. Immediately after being discharged home, I started my period- 6 days early. I also had very loose stools which I still have now. I think surgery just seems to throw your body out of whack.
  4. Oh thank you for your words of encouragement. I'm feeling better today though it will be awhile before I can go back to work.
  5. If anyone ever says I took the easy way out to losing weight I'll kick their butt! Banded on the 11th, ill for 5 days before being hospitalized for three more. Finally stopped dry heaving and feeling faint. Tried eating a tablespoon of mashed potatoes- stomach grumbling was INTENSE. Panicked cause I thought it got stuck. If didn't, my esophagus is just sore from all the dry heaving and the EGD ( scope) I had done on Tuesday. This sure wasn't anything like I thought it would be. But on a better note, I am feeling much better this morning and slept through the WHOLE night. Probably cause I had something other than hot Water and gatorade in my stomach. I did lose 22 pounds and counting. Right now, I am averaging about 2 pound weight loss per day. I know it will slow down once I can start eating more. I see the surgeon on Wednesday who plans on trying to advance my diet from clears to soft/pureed. And I don't know about you guys, but I don't think I can ever even think about drinking broth again! Yuck! Hautemama

    11 Days post-op

I'm 12 days post op and susposed to still be following a clear liquid diet. 2 days ago I tried small amounts of very soft foods i.e. mashed potatoes, yogurt, and a lowfat smoothie. I hear what you're saying about being sick of the clear liquid diet and I absolutely CANNOT stomach any sort of Protein shake without vomiting. But for the most part, I am sticking with liquids with a tablespoon of soft food maybe once or twice a day. Sorry I can't relate to the snow though, it's 85 degrees here and sunny. Feels like summer which has been motivating in itself. Just hang in there ok? Hautemama down 22 pounds, banded 1/11/11
  7. Wow, I'm amazed that you could eat a Big Mac! I eat a tiny bite of mashed potatoes and I'm vomiting for 2 hours! But seriously, I'd call your doctor and come clean. The office staff may have some ideas for you that are practical and easier for you to follow. Hang in there! Hautemama

    day 4

Day 4 post op? I'm day 12 post op and have begun to try yogurt and mashed potatoes that are super thin. Yogurt seems to go down beautifully but I did have a problem with the potatoes the other day when they were too thick. The first thing I tried was a smoothie- just 1 oz of it. Tasted like heaven. What did your surgeon tell you about what kinds of food you can eat now? Hautemama
  9. Every night about 6pm I get the dreaded dry heaves. Does anyone else have this problem? Nights are the worst for me until I take some liquid Benadryl and the nausea goes away. Is there anything I can do about this? I was banded on Jan 11th. Hautemama down 22 pounds
  10. I had ALOT of pain after my surgery which has gotten alot better all of a sudden. I switched from the liquid Lortab to liquid Motrin and that helped so much. The past two days I have not taken anything. I do still have persistent nausea which comes on around 6pm every night. Last night I had the dry heaves. But I'm hanging in there hoping that I'm on the road to recovery. So you hang in there too ok?
  11. Ok, so after reading a few more posts I guess the tablespoon of mashed potatoes I ate last night must have gotten alittle stick. I tired to throw up and all that came out was thick clear slime. So I drank some hot Water thinking it would wash it down. More slime but no water came up. Slept through the night- best night sleep. But this morning I'm still sore inside- does that make sense? How could I have handled this better? Hautemama
  12. I got banded on the 11th and about 5 days afterward I developed loose stool like diarrhea which I still have. It seems to be letting up a bit but I too wondered if I had gotten a virus. It's just from all the liquids. I have been queasy since I got the band but today I feel alot better. Last night I ate a bite of mashed potatoes which did give me a big slime episode. After that though, I slept the entire night without any nausea.
  13. Just got banded on Jan 11th. Coming out of the OR when they woke me up, I remember screaming that my belly had been ripped open. OMG. The pain was so intense. So intense that I got naseous. Wow. Didn't expect that at all. Took about 2 hours to get my pain down to a 4. I normally have a very high threshold for pain so this was unusual. After being loaded up on a bunch of various drugs the hospital sent me home 5 hours after the procedure. The first night home was a nightmare. I couldn't sit up or get out of bed- because again I felt like I was being sawed in half. Then the dry heaves started, I don't know how I survived that first night. The past few days have gotten better but I'm still having so much pain and nausea. I've spoken to my surgeon everyday since the surgery and he is very perplexed. I don't have a fever or any signs of infections. Anyone else have a similiar experience? One great thing is I have lost 14 pounds since last Sunday! Hautmama
  14. Hello. I was at Mc Donald's today eating what I call " The Last Supper". You see, today was my appointment for medical clearance with surgery set for Janaury 11th. I found out all about the pre-op diet and figured that I was go have my last hoorah over at Mc Donald's. As I was standing there, waiting for my greasy fattening food to arrive- some man walked up to me and said, " I have to compliment you on your looks." Great, I thought. Maybe I don't look all that bad. But this man went on to say, " You sure dress nice for a woman of your size." Nice. I left McDonald's without my food that I already paid for. I cannot believe things have gotten this bad. What the heck happened? I guess I just wasn't paying attention. Too wrapped up in life to notice that I was getting so overweight. More often than not, someone asks me, " When is your baby due?" I said, she was born 9 years ago. Well, this year, I am making my resolution to take control of my life- starting with my weight and my health. If you don't pay attention, the years slip by, the pounds creep on, and one day you are stuck shopping in the plus size section right next to the maternity clothes. And what sucks even more, is the clothes for pregnant women are cuter than the plus size clothes. My feet are so wide that I cannot find shoes like I used to. It's getting tougher to get into restaurant booths. I don't know how I didn't notice before just how bad it was or is. I knew I was overweight but MORBIDLY OBESE? Nah, not me right? Well, my eyes are wide open now looking forward to my surgery date and a new life to begin!
  15. Hello there. I am so excited. I finally got my surgery date! I kinda feel like I did when I was pregnant with my daughter- and the doctor gave you a "due date". Only this time instead of buying cute clothes and setting up a nursery, I'm out stocking my kitchen with Clear liquids and things I will need post op. I have been overweight since I was 12 with my heaviest being right now 252. Wow, I don't know how it got so out of control. I just wasn't paying attention to what I needed instead worrying about my Autistic daughter or going through a bitter divorce. This year, I plan on taking back control over my life. I bid adieu to the girls over at the Lane Bryant store- no more will I be a high roller over there. I'm glad I found this site for support as I go through this process. I appreciate each and everyone one of you and look forward to hearing your stories! Haute mama
