    The weighting game

I was banded on December 17, 2010. I just had my second fill this past Saturday. Before surgery I lost 25 pounds and after surgery I've lost 15 pounds. I'm seeing inches come off more than pounds because I'm down two sizes from what I was wearing! I have found if I get all my protein in the weight comes off easier than if I don't eat the correct amount of protein. I've not had the good restriction, but I've been careful to eat only 3 meals a day and no snacking! I do have problems with eating breaded anything! I'm from Texas where chicken fried steak rules so it has been hard to not eat the breading! Pizza's are history too as are most bread if it's not toasted. Try not to be discouraged the weight will come off it's better to loose it slowly than all at once anyway! Good Luck and don't be so hard on yourself!

    Has anyone noticed?

This is the way I am every day too! Some days even coffee doesn't help. I usually have oatmeal every morning I like to add one scoop of protein powder to it most mornings that sometimes helps.

    1st NSV for me!

I too have just gotten into a pair of jeans that I've saved for 6 years! I have actually bought one new seat of clothes two sizes smaller than I usually wear! I'm so excited! I can't wait to loose a little more weight and buy cute summer clothes this year!

    Questioning myself

I had my surgery on December 17, and my first fill on January 7. I have lost a total of 23.5 pounds so far, and I'm down 2 clothing sizes with just this 23 pounds lost! I have had no complications it has been so easy it's almost scary! My only wish is that I would have done this years ago maybe I wouldn't have been the "Fat Mom" at my Daughter's wedding last March! I know others post about their complications and the throwing up and other bad things that go along with this surgery, but I have been following everything my Doctor has told me to do which is cut thing into very small pieces and chew, chew, chew! Stick with lean proteins, veggies and if I have enough room (usually I don't) I can have starches. I never was one to snack between meals before surgery so that is not a problem now. It is normal to be scared, nervous, and excited about the unknown, but I believe you will come through your surgery just fine! I'll keep you in my prayers!

    woundering a few things

I was told I could drive after I stopped taking the pain meds that were prescribed I only had to use it the first night to help me sleep. So I started driving the third day after surgery. As for any major complications after surgery I didn't have any. This surgery was a breeze to recover from compared to the two C-Sections I've had! Now that was some serious pain!

    Banded 12-20-10

I like you had no nauseous feelings or vomiting. I was on clear liquids the week of surgery (mine was December 17), and this week I'm on mushy wet foods baked or mashed potatoes finally! I can have canned foods the rest of this week and next Wednesday I start cooking again! This way my stomach has time to heal before I go to chicken and fish and other veggies. Just remember to eat very small bites chew them well, and you should have no problems.

    1 Week post op visit

camille01 I too had to wait 6 months before surgery. I found out in late November when my surgery would be. After my EKG and Lab Tests I had about two weeks to wait for surgery. I met my surgeon back in August and didn't see him again until the day of surgery, but I felt so confident in him because he is a Lap Band patient himself! Good luck on your process just holler if you have any questions and I'll try to help you out!

    1 Week post op visit

Sorry all I have blogged on here before as twintwo821, but for some reason I couldn't sign on that account I had to create a new one. I had my surgery December 17 everything went well. I had to be in at 6:00am surgery at 7:00am awake from surgery about 9:20am. My surgeon repaired an umbilical hernia I didn't know I had everything else went well. I was up and walking around left the Surgery Center at 10:00am and home by 11:30am! It took me 6 months to get to this day and I wouldn't change a thing about what I went through to get to this point! There was some fluid left in my band which I didn't know about every time I would try to get all my liquids in I would sip just a few sips and be so full I couldn't breath! I went this Wednesday for my first post op appointment lost another 3.5 pounds (that makes 23.5 since I started this process) they took some fluid out and I have since been able to eat my required 1/2 cup servings. I started that day getting to have canned veggies, fruits and proteins! Next week I will start actually cooking again if I can remember how! I can't wait for cooked fish, chicken and veggies! I do find that with that 1/2 cup serving I'm not hungry for a few hours. I'm looking forward to Christmas since I can now eat a few "real" foods even though they will be mushy at least it won't be clear liquids or protein shakes! I may even make a banana pudding with out the cookies! To all who have already been banded thank you for your comments and support on this website I have learned so much! To all who are yet to be banded hang in there it does get better this rough patch does pass things will get back to almost normal with your new eating habits! Merry Christmas everyone!

    Newbie

I too have Cigna through my husband's job. They have changed their rules and are allowing the Lap Band procedure, but you will have to wait 6 months going through a series of appoints for psychological testing, diet and nutrition. My beginning weight was 233 pounds, and it was a long wait, but as of today I am 1 week post op! I was advised to start losing weight and I did just that but very slowly. My last appointment when I had my EKG I weighed 218. When I went in to surgery I was down to 212, and at my post op appointment on Wednesday I was down to 209.5. I've lost all in all 23.5 pounds since May. Now I can really start losing the weight without worrying I'm losing it too fast for the Insurance Company. I didn't have to fight with the Insurance Company the Clinic I went through (True Results in Hurst, Texas) did that for me. I wish you luck on your journey!

    Starting my journey

Today is day 6 post op for me. I agree walk, walk, walk all you can to help with the gas. I had some fluid left behind in my band it was removed on Wednesday when I had my one week they removed most of the fluid and I feel much better! I was having trouble getting much to eat not to mention all the fluids I needed to be drinking. I would take 4 to 5 sips and have to wait an hour or two then have more. Now I'm able to drink well and eating is not a problem. I'm on mushy wet foods until next Wednesday then I can have cooked fish, chicken and veggies. No bread red meat or pork until after my first fill. All in all I'm doing well not having any major problems.
