i'm 5'4 and weigh 296. I'm wondering if anyone has lost 100lbs in under 6 months? That is my goal, and I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has been successful with it. My doc thinks I can acheive that, I'm just young and anxious to get to under 200. Thanks for reading!

Has anyone been approved by anthem in Indiana or Kentucky w out having to do a doctor monitored diet? I'm so worried to get that...and I really don't wanna hear it's good for you, it isn't for me. I've been wanting lapband for 3 years. My bmi is 53. I'm 22. No it's not good for me. Any experience w anthem in Indiana or Kentucky would be AMAZING

im starting the process with insurance. BCBS in kentucky just flat out said we dont cover it. but they dont know any details of my weight and health issues, and that two doctors highly recommend it for me. i believe the next step is to talk to my HR department at work to see if they do? so basically, to me, it seems ill either a) have to switch insurances...or theyll approve it but only with a 6 month diet, which to me is not okay. ive been "dieting" my entire life and here i am, 5'4 weighing 296. anyone know if there is a way around the 6 month diet? is there standards i may meet to NOT have to do it?

so i have all of this paperwork to fill out before the seminar on Jan 22nd. ive got the base of it finished, the last two pages are 30 questions for my insurance company representative. the first question is do i have benefits for weight loss surgery for morbid obesity if medically necessary? then, i choose yes or no. if yes, i am suppose to complete all 30 questions...if no, i need to ask the rep to read the exclusion to me, then it says if i have an exclusion in my policy, would i self pay for surgery, and i cant. and if i say no, i dont even go to the seminar, it just ends there. ive emailed a rep and all it said, point blank, is your plan does not cover obesity related surgeries. so is that it? its just over? I dont understand. i thought going to the seminar would help me through all of this. and i thought if it isnt included in my plan i can "challenge" it? am i wrong?

insurance question...HELP!!
morgandonor replied to morgandonor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
update: so my mom isnt ALL THAT supportive of lapband. dont get me wrong, she thinks its a good idea, but she feels like i should "try everything else before it" but ive done it all. every diet, had trainers, etc. and she is saying its "too late" for her to add me to her insurance. shes going to double check, but she works in insurance, so i fear she knows. she also feels i wont be able to get my own plan because my bmi is 52, so no one will willingly insure me. she thinks my only option is self pay which she does not support since im deep in student debt and other stuff, i feel so confused. what are payments like for self pay? so upset. -
insurance question...HELP!!
morgandonor replied to morgandonor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
is it even worth talking to my HR dept about it? im curious about getting an individual insurance plan that isnt through my workplace. but i remember a year ago it was a fortune due to my weight, but it's sounding worth it to me. im also a part-time college student so im wondering if i could get re-added to a parents plan and try for that. im so beyond frustrated. -

the paper work i am filling out that i mention above is the paperwork the hospital sent me to fill out to bring with me to the seminar. thats why im confused, why wont they help me? and why cant i even go to the seminar if my insurance says they dont approve surgery and i wont self pay? i thought there were greivances and such i could submit to get around this. -
this may have already been a post in the past, but i know i, and im sure many others, really enjoy viewing everyone's Lap Band blogs!!! Post your link!!!

anyone else just starting-seminar stage?
morgandonor replied to gettinalife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel the same way. If I could diet successfully for 6 months, I probably wouldn't be here. And I have a ginormous bmi and also lots of health issues related to it. -
Yay!!!!

thanks so much everyone for the responses. I didn't mean to sound like WOO IM GONNA GET THE BAND AND LOSE 100 QUICK AND ITLL BE AWESOME!!! haha i have about 140 to lose, total. i just wasnt sure if anyone was successful with that when they work out everyday, diet properly, etc. kourtany, are you in louisville? while i do want to get the process going quickly, i have heard negative things about norton. although, everyone is different! i have been going with Dr. Weiss and Dr. Oldham at Baptist East here in Louisville. Are you at Norton?

anyone else just starting-seminar stage?
morgandonor replied to gettinalife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in Louisville, KY! I go to a seminar on Jan 22nd. I havent even started the insurance stuff, technically my Anthem plan does not include obesity related surgeries but I know there are ways to get help getting approved. My BMI sure is high enough! I have to be honest, if they make me do a 6 month diet, i will be BEYOND discouraged. My doctor has been trying to convince me to get LapBand for years, and i just realized I needed to get over my fear of surgery and do it. So i dont want to wait for 6 months. Not one bit. -
i cant even tell you how big of an inspiration your wedding photos are!!! i get giddy thinking about being your size when im going to pick out a dress. you look AMAZING! congrats!

Sarah posted earlier...and im with her, i have the opposite problem. My boyfriend of 4 years fell for my personality. I was thin in high school, and im not an idiot, i know being fit and being attracted to someone is important. we had talked about my weight before we even became official. i knew he wasnt thrilled that i weighed 270lbs but he cared deeply enough for me to get over it....i gained 25 more lbs in our 4 years together, and i became a vegetable. i was ashamed, i had no energy, i never did my hair, i rarely wore makeup, i wore ugly clothes because it was comfortable, and we started struggling with our relationship. i knew it was all me, i would go on little diets that would last for 2 weeks, id lose 10 lbs, be excited, he'd be happy that i was happy, then id fall off the wagon. he made it clear it was obvious i was happy when i was losing weight, which made him happy. now im in the approval/seminar stage, and he is so happy. he just glows when we talk about it. it doesnt hurt my feelings that hes so excited for me to lose weight, because i personally am not attracted to obese men, so if the tables were turned, i know id be his number one cheerleader during the surgery process because we have a bond like none other. im not really nervous about our change. hes never been a jealous boyfriend because he most likely assumes i cant bag a 10, and he is right. but now that ive made this decision to change my life, i dress more like my old self, take time on myself, and hes so happy. and it makes me happy. this was long. but ive never told all of this to anyone, so it feels great

i noticed in the louisville section on here the two doctors I know of, and the doctors who are hosting my seminar, are not on here. They are surgeons ni Baptist East Bariatric Surgery center, Dr.Oldham and Dr. Weiss, anyone know anything about them? Used them? Had amazing experiences with a surgeon in or around Louisville? Thanks!
