Hi my fellow Ohioans! I added an Intro board to the Ohio forum - hopefully more people will introduce themselves. I also added a Pills/Medications threat and Support Group POLL and thread. Do you think we should add another thread for foods/recipes or keep most of our discussions right here in this thread? I really want to support and help linadu for getting Ohio going. May the Bucks be proud.:clap2:

I do have a couple of questions for the bandsters AND I'm putting up a poll and I would love to hear thoughts on having a get together say every 60-90 days and I would also like to hear if people out there could be in a lap band only support group somewhere centralized say once a month or every two months for extended time. Also, if you already know of lap-band ONLY support group in the area, please list the contact information.:clap2: Looking forward to the results!!

Hi Dr. Curry - nice to have you on the forum. I'm getting banded by Dr. Schumacher and I actually called your office first, but you didn't take my insurance. But, I hear excellent things about both of you. Have a nice day

Well, I thought she was looking for a surgeon; sorry I don't any know any PCP's in that area. Good luck. -
Well, first I waned to share more about myself. I am 36 years old, single and most times, rather isolated. I've let my weight over the many years be the reason I don't get out and do much. I need to lose a hundred pounds to be where I'm comfortable. I'm living in Columbus, Ohio but this is not my dream to stay here. I'm pursuing a licensure in community counseling (this will officially allow me to a therapist) and I hope to specialize in eating disorders. I also hope to specialize in disordered eating behaviors. By this, I mean that many folks out there may not necessarily meet the criteria for a full-fledged eating dirsorder and I think the disordered eating behaviors they do warrant attention and understanding. I have a history of an eating disorder, sometimes ranging from bulimia to anorexia to binge eating and simply disorder eating behaviors/thoughts. Fortunately I have done a significant amount of work with food additions and I do believe that the thoughts don't necessarily go away; rather we get stronger to fight against them. Personally, I use food when I am at home watching tv, when I can't sleep, when I've got something yummy in the house (in those circumstances I can't seem to let myself just have one piece). I think the band will help all these issues, I have two cats, Snickers and Triskett, and they are my children. One of the reasons I chose the band was so that in a year or two I may be able to have a child of my own. I hope, as the weight comes of, that I will be able to increase my social situations because I'm very easy to talk to and have a genuine sense of concern about people. I am being banded on 1/10/07 with Dr. Schumacher. I go for pre-admission testing the big 3-hour class where I'll get my post-op meal plan. Fortunately, I don't have to be on a pre-op plan. I do have a couple of questions for the bandsters. I was going to put up a poll but I guess you can't do this unless you are starting a new thread. So, if you start a new threat, are you out of this Hello, OH, let's get this started? Must be, so I'll post this message with my questions AND put up the poll in the OHIO forum. I would love to hear thoughts on having a get together say every 60-90 days and I would also like to hear if people out there could be in a lap band only support group somewhere centralized say once a month or every two months for extended time. So: Support Group? Yes/No What is centralized location for YOU? Monthly or every other month? Daytime or Evening? If no support group, maybe reunion every 90 days? My question for those banded already is this: I'll need to take pills about 10 hours after I wake up. Did anyone have trouble taking medication. I really don't to crush them; besides being on Clear liquids there wouldn't be anything decent to crush them in. If you did have to crush them, for how long? Thanks and I look forward to getting to know you all better.

I am looking forward to meeting area banders and keep in touch with each other for support in our new lifestyle ! After my surgery, hopefully in January, I plan on attending the support seminars with Kettering Bariatrics. Do you know when the support groups meet at Kettering - are they combined with RNY's or band-only? Possibly I'll find out when I go to pre-admission testing on Tuesday. You know, we should plan an event sometime and somewhere central and all get together for a reunion of some sort. Anyone game after we're banded?

I think the "freezing" of this forum is because the amount of posts is so lengthy. I've been to the other forums and have experienced no problem - but it does freeze up on me a lot with this thread. Anything we can do about this, moderator? Happy New Year, everyone!

Thanks SuperGenius for clarifying - makes more sense now. Plus, I can understand where you get the name supergenius! Thanks so much for giving the calculations because I haven't had my RMR tested in a couple of years and now I can see how it's changed. You rock. BTW, BabyGotBack, sorry I assumed you were on regular food (you 2, Sherrijo). Have a great day, all. :0

Thanks Barbara: Your information put me at ease. I'm sure I'll have a lot to say after Tuesday when I do the pre-admission testing and 3-hour class. Happy New Year!

Poll: How many travelled to surgery and back on your own?
Mindful replied to marjon9's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Everyone: I'm going to be banded on 1/10/07. I have to drive an hour. I'll be doing this on my own - any advice out there? I do have to stay all night. My plan was to take a dose of pain meds 2 hours before I leave so that most of it is out of my system before I drive home. -
Hi Guys! I'm new here but saw this section and had to post. I'm from Columbus. I get banded on 1/10/07 by Dr. David Schumacher. I'm so psyched :biggrin1: to see that several of you have had him. I'd like to know whether all of you were perfectly satisfied with your care from him AND from Sycamore Hospital. I think I made a good choice but it's a bit scary. When I saw him, he told me I was the first patient ever to see him the same day and get my surgery date the same day. I had approval from my therapist and submitted a letter and since I've been seeing a dietician for 2 years for another health condition, he approved me for the band right then. Insurance coverage was a given in my case and so here I am. He didn't give me a pre-op diet and I'd like to know from all of you what his post-op diet is like. I go on 1/2/07 for pre-admission testing and for the 3-hour required class. Can't wait to hear from some who are ahead of me. I also posted a poll at the Introductions Forum because I think it may be time to start a band-only support group here and I bet if we had enough people, Kettering would help us with it. What does everyone think? I know of one other in Columbus who may be interested too. Happy New Year.

Hi Everyone: I'm getting banded on 1/10/07; I"ll be at 38 BMI. I have been seeing a dietician for over 2 years now. Based on what I'm reading about what BabyGotBack and Sherrijo ate for the day, I can assure you both that you aren't eating enough! Even though you have the band and it is restrictive, you still have to get in enough calories for your body to function. What is happening is that you RMR is decreasing and when that happens, your body automatically programs itself to "hold on" to whatever few calories is being taken in so weight loss slows dramatically. If you haven't had your RMR taken, please consider this. It is sometimes called the MED GEM test. Most people range anywhere from 1400-2500 kcals needed per day just to nothing but sleep. I'm not claiming to be an expert but I encourage you to research this better. Good luck.

Thanks for the referral Annie. Also, have you heard any feedback about Schumacher over at Kettering Bariatrics. My insurance wouldn't cover Cincy Weight Loss but I had heard pretty good things about Kettering. Since you live there, any info or feedback would be appreciated.

Hi Annie I know of myself and one other person in Columbus who may be interested in forming a support group - would you be interested, vote on the poll. Also, did you get your done by Schumacher - have you heard anything about him?

I get my band on 1/10 by Kettering Bariatrics in Miamisburg (45 min from Cinci). I have been very pleased with Dr. Schumacher so far.
