Is the multivitamin you take chewable? Or can we swallow pills post op? I've heard different things from everyone who has come to talk to us, so I'm just a little confused.

March Role Call!!
sarahh1828 replied to VSGandMe2011 (DisneyMomma)'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm another March hopeful! I'm praying for the last week in March. We'll see though. I'd love to join the club. lol. -
For those with sleeve post pregnancy
sarahh1828 posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I'm wondering for those who have been pregnant with the sleeve, if you were able to lose the pregnancy weight? And if you gained a lot during pregnancy? I'm also wondering if you had any complications? Thank you. -
I'm an LVN student, and we practiced them on each other. I won't lie, it wasn't a pleasand experience. I also have a pretty bad gag reflex. Some of the other students did fine and said it wasn't annoying at all. Just if you're allowed, swallow the Water they give, and look down to swallow, it helps it pass down the throat easier.

Went for my Pre op today- 1st I ever heard of a catheter being used
sarahh1828 replied to warrior68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm an LVN student, it's my duty to do catheters for my patients. There is usually no bleeding or scarring after catheter insertion. It's usually a relatively painless procedure, although males do tend to express more discomfort than females. That said, as a patient, and a female, I really DO NOT want that catheter either!! I had some really bad experiences in the past, and would much rather get up to pee than have the catheter. It makes me feel a little better that we'll be out while it's inserted, but I'd like to be asleep while it's removed too. lol. I know it's completely irrational, but that's how I feel, and I'm sure my doctor and I will have to have a long talk about it before my surgery. -
Anybody late teens, early 20s had the VSG?
sarahh1828 replied to Babygurl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had mine yet,but I'm well on my way and I'm 22. For the last two years, I have felt way older than I am. I have a two year old, and I have been unable to be as active as I would like. I can't even chase him at the park without needing a rest, and a two year old doesn't really understand that concept! lol. THis is the best decision I think I've ever made, even though I haven't gone through it yet. The possibility of being active enough to encourage my son to be active, and prevent obesity for him is well worth it. If you want to talk and some additional support on your journey, friend me. -
My bariatric options class through Kaiser finally got a surgeon to come talk to us about post op diet. He said we would be on clear liquids for 4 days, regular liquids for up to 12 weeks, pureed foods from 12 wks to about 5 mos, then start shredded foods. He also said absolutely no gum, corn or grapes, and no drinking through a straw. So my question is, is this right? Am I going to be on liquids for 3 mos. and pureed for another two months after that? I don't think I could do that. I thought it would be around a month or two tops before I could start shredded or soft real food. Please let me know your experiences, and what your doctors gave you for a timeline. Maybe I"m wrong and this is normal for this procedure. All I know is if it's going to take almost 5 mos. to be able to eat real food, I'm going to be really frustrated.

Diet Post op questions
sarahh1828 replied to sarahh1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lol. THere are two other surgeons, so I'm going to request one of the others. This guys specialty is RNY anyways, I'm sure with his obvious distaste for sleeves at the meeting that he wouldn't perform a sleeve. I'm just hoping one of the other two surgeons come in quick to save the classes sanity. -
Diet Post op questions
sarahh1828 replied to sarahh1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks All!! I really think this guy was trying to scare us. I plan on calling the lady in charge of nutrition for sleevers monday, to see if she has anything different to say. -
Diet Post op questions
sarahh1828 replied to sarahh1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know. Now I'm questioning my commitment, which is probably what he wanted. I was prepared to go without real food for about 2 months, but I don't think I could do 5. We just met with one surgeon though( and he would only recommend the roux en y, so perhaps the diet is for those patients), so I 'm just praying at this point that I get a different surgeon. -
In my options program they aren't really talking about post op diet yet, which freaks me out a little. I also tend to be obsessive, just because I would like to be somewhat prepared. I was wondering what egg drop and wonton Soup count as for post op diet. liquid? mushies? If I wanted to eat the wanton soup would I have to puree it? Are either of these well tolerated? Trying to create a post op diet for myself without eating the same stuff for every meal.

Anybody Else Worry About This
sarahh1828 replied to lkcraig316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know. I feel that my face looks good considering I weight 250lbs!! I think that when I lose the weight I may actually look my age though (I"m only 22), which could be good. -
I've been following my diet they gave me through Kaiser's options program, increased my exercise, and haven't lost one lb. I'm dissappointed in myself. I've also switched bcp twice since I've started, so perhaps my body is still trying to get used to the new hormone combination. Anyway...did this happen to anyone else? Did they still sleeve you?

Haven't lost a pound on my diet
sarahh1828 replied to sarahh1828's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm losing inches I think. I had to suck it in to button my pants last week, and now they're loose, but the scale isn't reflecting that. I think perhaps I just gain muscle faster than I lose fat. My silly body -

The person in charge of the program says that it's up to the surgeon, who I won't get to talk to until Feb. 20something. Frustrated, and wishing my body would just cooperate already. -

nutritionist recommended diet. Won't be having surgery until March. -
I was wondering how long before surgery people had to stop taking birth control pills, and how soon they were able to resume them after surgery? I am currently on Yaz if that makes adifference. I just don't want to get pregnant right now, and I'm EXTREMELY fertile if not on them. Just a little worried that 9 mos. post op I'll have a little blessing

I was wondering about sizes post op
sarahh1828 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was wondering what size you were when you began maintenance? I was also wondering what size you were at 150lbs? I'm thinking of making that my goal, but I can't remember what size I was when I was that weight. I'm currently 245lbs. and a size 20 at 5'3" and wondering if even 150lbs. is a realistic goal at this point. Thanks! -

sarahh1828 replied to sarahh1828's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! I am rather curvy, I remember being a size 12 the last time I was 150lbs. I was wondering if sizes had changed that much in 5 years. lol. -
