physical job questions
thejaketucker replied to J Smith's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would wait more than 2 weeks. I worked with people in wheelchairs at the time and my doctor made me take off 5 weeks. I am glad I did becaues if I tryed lifting a 100lbs person and am not healed all the way they warned me I could rip my internal sutures. -
Hypo-Thyroid Bandsters
thejaketucker replied to MelBanded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had hypothyroidism for over 15 years. Before surgery I was on 250mcg of levothyroxine (a high dose). I had surgery 12/15/2011 and I am taking 137.5 mcg levothyroxine and dropping every couple of months. I hope to be off my meds some day, maby when im down about 50 more pounds. My hypothyroidism has been a roadblock to weight loss my whole life. I have never heard of Armour, I dont know if i should ask about it. -
Pepperoni Chips (lapband food)
thejaketucker posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just thought I would suggest something for people who have trouble eating potato chips. If you microwave about 15 pieces of small pepperoni slices for 60 seconds they become crunchy and delicious! they only have 150 calories and no carbs. I know it sounds wierd but alot of the stuff we do after lapband is wierd to other people. Did anyone else find wierd foods that work well for the lapband post op diet? -
unfill before vacation
thejaketucker replied to jboo518's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What I did on vactation to make it 'special'. was to each more rich foods that i usually would avoid . like lobster bisque and sugary drinks. I would only get an unfill if I was going on a cruise... not really. -

Which vegetables are too fibrous?
thejaketucker replied to Sarabi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be careful with raw veggies. I ate a ton of salads before surgery (preop weight loss) and now i can't eat any (lettuce makes me very sick) I am about 2.5 months out. Hopefully it changes some day, i miss salad. Cooked beans have gone down easy as well as cooked spinach. I would stay away from chickpeas (even cooked) for a while, they made me sick too -
How much weight have you lost? I am tired of this question!
thejaketucker replied to Keia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When someone asks me how much i have lost i tell them a whole long story about my surgery and my preop loss. By the time im done explaining my weight loss they usually dont want to hear more. Most of them dont ask again. lol -
I drink coffee every day with cream and splenda. I also drink a protien shake made with soy milk every morning when I wake up, which keeps my protien up and food intake down (keeps me full) . I am still scared of soda champagne and beer

Can you eat salad?
thejaketucker replied to amberakamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have gotten sick 2 times... The first time I ate raw veggies (lettuce and tomato) and the second time was falafel (chickpeas)... So I am scared of any salad... I used to love them but I run away now! I envy you people who can handle this stuff -
Post Stuck diet?
thejaketucker replied to momofwaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What I call being "stuck" is a uncomfortable feeling in my chest, it felt like I couldnt finish swallowing. I drank a little milk after a few minutes and I felt better. Theres no other way I can describe it but uncomfortable -
Post Stuck diet?
thejaketucker replied to momofwaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not had a fill yet and I just had a "stuck" food problem. I wanted to try a tiny home made cheeseburger w/ cooked onions. 1st bite and I was done...I have had ground beef, cheese and cooked onions with NO problem so... It must have been the white bread bun! It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be but I put off dinner for a couple hours and only had soup then. I am back off bread. -

thejaketucker replied to ASHLEYRO21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Would this be ok on pur?ed diet?
thejaketucker replied to amber2604's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
yeah, pasta can be bad for you but I wouldnt want to eat canned pasta. When i have a craving for that kind of stuff I do what the last poster said, it may sound wierd but ricotta sauce and cheese maby with a little ground beef is a pretty good combo -
I have to admit most people I know have been suportive on the surface. Only one person at work came out and claimed it was "an easy way out" becaues he lost weight the regular way. The wierdest part is when I tell people I did medifast shakes to loose 10 percent pre-op they want to know more about the medifast... not the surgery! I know 3 people now who just want to do the medifast shakes part ! I told them its just for fast pre-op weight loss and they are missing out on the most important part! Some people just dont get it

thejaketucker replied to Mrs.Doxie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my scale is a taylor and it is the best!, It can tell body water, body fat and muscle mass percentage. It was only 20 bucks and comes with a 100 year accuracy promise. Maby you could try a taylor. -
Pre op diet...I keep cheating
thejaketucker replied to JessicaA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to lose 10 percent in 8 weeks before surgery which works out to be about 4 pounds a week. I will admit I cheated alot but I only cheated by eating helthy stuff like steamed brocolli with lemon or steamed chicken or a can of tuna. They had me on the medifast (4 shakes and a green and lean meal a day) you might want to try that. You can do it! 42 pounds is great! -
20 somethings!
thejaketucker replied to Jenna111710's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only regret I usually hear people saying is that they wish they got it earlier. I got it on my 26th birthday (crumbiest birthday ever but best present ever) 12/15/2010. I was the youngest person at the orientation but the doc didn't seem to mind that I was younger. -
trouble finding soft food eating out
thejaketucker posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have found myself getting creative now that im on the soft food (pureed) diet. I went to a college football game and I didnt bring anything with me so i had to search up and down the whole stadium to find only 1 thing at 1 stand that i could eat (chili). I was at the diner tonight with family and I ordered 2 small meatballs w. pasta sauce that i smushed up. Just wondering what other people have had to do while eating out on the baby food diet. -
Band and metal detector!
thejaketucker replied to Louismom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
they told me the port is titanium for me and the plastic model in the office is just for show. They also told me the device has a MR of 3.0 tesla which is a very small magnetic force. I have been in cvs and walmart with no problems, I hope if i go to the airport they dont think i inplanted a bomb in my stomach when i go in the xray partical machine.
