The BIG secret!!
carolann0117 replied to carolann0117's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YEP!! I had surgery on Dec. 27th. It's only been 4 weeks and I feel AWESOME!! I had NO problems at all, except a little problem with an allergic reaction to the surgical tape. The Doc gave me an RX for the red sore skin. But all of that is healing nicely now. I'm starting to get my appetite back... maybe that need I'm soon ready for a fill....?? -
I just want to say....

Are you open about being banded or
carolann0117 replied to mom2amwt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... this is my secret!!! The only one who knows is my very supportive hubby. However, people are now starting to wonder how I'm losing weight. I just tell them I working with my Dr. to get healthy. I've had some major thyroid problems in the past, and most people (including family) are happy to see that I finally found a Dr. who can actually help me get all my health issues under control. I agree it's a personal decision......and maybe when I reach my goal weight, I "might" share my secret. Right now, I'm just focusing on me and getting this weight off. -

Itchy red rash around incisions
carolann0117 replied to amber2604's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had an allergic reaction to the surgical tape. They used Tepaderm Surgical Tape. Now it's on my list of medical things I "can't" do. My surgery was on the 27th and uncovered the incisions about 5 days out. I saw my Dr. this past Saturday and he gave me an RX to help the healing process. Now, they are much better and they are finally starting to heal. Other than that.... I have had NO other problems. (Guess...there had to be something....) Do you still have your incisions covered? -
Hypo-Thyroid Issues and Lap Band Results
carolann0117 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of the main reasons I've had problems losing weight in the past is due to a Hypo-active thyroid. I wonder if anyone else here has a thyroid problem and is finding success with the lap band. So far, I'm doing very well..... and I'm praying and hoping I don't hit that hypo-thyroid wall and my weight loss stalls. If this doesn't work... I'll be pretty upset. Please let me know if you can relate!!! -
for those that have lost ALOT of weight, what are you going to do about the extra skin?
carolann0117 replied to grmadeb01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was only banded on 12/27...... so I have a long way to go and have no idea if I'm gong to consider plastic surgery. However, back in 2006, I had a breast reduction.... because their size caused health issues, it was covered by my insurance and my only out of pocket cost was the $500 deductible. I'm am SOOOOOOO HAPPY with the results...and that is one part of my body that I know is going to look great once I lose this weight. So ... those that are concerned about the "girls" should check it out with your insurance companies to see if they will cover a reduction. -
down and out.........

I just started my journey... .so I haven't be at this long...... but just thought I'd try............. Maybe you should step up your exercise routine. Add an extra day ... or add some extra time to what you're doing now. I'm sure once you start re-focusing ... you'll get right back on track. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
carolann0117 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone at work today notice I'm losing weight.. Yeah!! I told them I'm working with my Dr. and he has me on strict diet. Still haven't told anyone about being banded. I was banded on the 27th... and have been doing really well. However, I'm starting to "think about food".... I even had a dream I was eating a tuna sandwich.... geeeeeeeeeeee I'd love a tuna sandwich!!! I think it's all in my mind... cause I'm not really feeling hungry. I'm still on liquids and maybe I feel I just need to bite into something. Anyone in the same boat? -
Help! Going out to dinner tomorrow

I was banded on Dec 27th and had to go to a 50th Birthday party buffet this past weekend. Even though there was no soup on the buffet, I asked the waitress and she got me the most amazing cream of mushroom soup. It was totally awesome!!! I got everyone ordering the soup. It was a BIG hit. It was kinda funny. I picked and poked at the soup for over an hour and no one really noticed that I wasn't eating anything else. Also, I've lost 19 pounds and people are starting to notice. So........... I'm just telling them I'm working with my doctor and his dietician. They put me on a on a very strict diet. I haven't told anyone about the lap band. I'm not ready to tell yet and figured, that it's personal. I'm sure if you talk with the waitress and tell her you're on a very strict diet, she might be able to suggest something for you. Let us know how it goes!!! -

I got banded on Dec 27th. The 4th day out.... I felt terrible itches in all of my wound sites. It turns out that I'm allergic to the dressing tape adhesive. Last night I finally pulled all the adhesive tape off and my skin is very red and blistering. I just keep it clean, dry and keep changing with new gauze and "paper" tape. The itching has finally stopped so now my skin just needs to heal. I feel NO pain otherwise. I never had a problem with this in my past.... kinda weird. -
SOMETHING WRONG???
carolann0117 replied to JAMILLAH E's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also banded on Monday.. and to be honest ~ I LOVE shrimp!!!! BUT............ having been banded only a few days ago.... I'm even MORE scared of not being able to swallow it or chocking on it. Lots of good advice for you posted here. Do the best as you can and follow your doctor's orders. I know there will be hard days ahead.... and I do thank God my husband loves to cook for himself ~ So I can avoid the kitchen. :-) -
Bandsters for the week of December 27 ~ let's chat!
carolann0117 replied to rather be scrapbooking's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Feel even better today! I actually went to work yesterday. My job is very demanding, especially at year end. I guess if I had my drothers though .... I would l have taken another day to veg. Today at work was much better than yesterday..... not quite so tired. I am however, looking forward to a 3 day weekend. :-) I still have had NO pain... just yesterday, the wound sites started itching a little. Had my post-op Dr. apt this morning, and the PA took off the top layer of tape covering the stitches. I think that will help the itching. Lost over 12 pounds in 2 weeks .............. Yahoo!!! -
How long should I take off work after surgery???
carolann0117 replied to jblady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery this past Monday. I was back to work on Wed. I know I was pushing it. It's the end of the year and my job is VERY demanding. I actually had my husband drive me. Went to work again today.....now I'm ready for a long 3 day weekend and looking forward to just relaxing. If my job wasn't soooooooooooooooo important (my husband was laid off, so I can't compromise mine).... I would have given myself another day or two. I was very lucky in that I didn't have ANY pain after the surgery.... just a little tired and felt run down. I'm feeling much better today. Still no pain... just some itching at my wound sites. Feeling well enough that tomorrow I'm planning on hitting my favorite store and use my gift card. -

Ok.... I'm banded!!!! Had my surgery yesterday! ALL went very well and YEAH NO gas pains. I slept very comfortable last night and just feel a little sore at the wound sites ~ but not enough to need to take any of my pain meds. Thank God this is over. I'm feeling really good today and plan on going to work tomorrow. I've been working on all my work e-mails from home today. Hope the rest of you have this good of an experience. Also.... another GREAT thing is that although I'm on clear liquids, I am NOT feeling the hungry pains I felt all last week on the Pre-Op diet. -
Bandsters for the week of December 27 ~ let's chat!
carolann0117 replied to rather be scrapbooking's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrow is the day!!! Agree with everyone here that there is a crazy mixture of emotions. I'm even worried about taking too much time off from work for follow-up visits with the Dr. I'm us soooooooooo busy at work, I don't want to piss off my boss. On Friday morning I woke up from a bad night's sleep and I had a "melt-down". NO ONE knows except my husband... and feeling somewhat guilty for my secret. Also, I sorta still feeling like this is cheating... and that I should have been able to do this myself without the surgery. I'm just praying that ALL goes well with NO complications (which could sabotage my secret). Prayers and well wishes for EVERYONE this week!! -

Pre op diet weight loss?
carolann0117 replied to imagine923's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just finished my 3rd day on Clear liquids. I get banded on Monday, the 27th. From reading a lot of posts here, it seems that there are many people who have to do a much longer Pre-Op diet. I guess I feel lucky I have to only do this for 7 days. Being I'm on "clear" liquids... it does make this challenging though. My choices are pretty limited. I'm doing much better than I ever though I would.... however, I would love to have something a little thicker than "water". I've been having a small V8 every day, and last night my Dr. told me to Water it down 50/50. I guess I was cheating.... I wonder why?... it's the same amount of calories.... just a thinner consistency. I really liked it the way it was ~ it coated my belly so I would feel some satisfaction. Since Monday, I lost 5 pounds. Probably lots of water weight.. I'm sure the pace will slow down. It's hard to resist all the Christmas goodies...but I figure, if I can do this during the holidays, I'll feel that much more successful. Merry Christmas! 2011 is going to be awesome!!
