I feel nauseated when I am very hungry. Weird....but this was something I experienced most of my life and I can't blame it on the band. Now with the band, I have learned not to RUSH my meal... which I tend to do when I'm starving..... I do NOT like that stuck feeling. Have to wait for the LUMP to pass ~ sometimes up to a half hour before I can eat again. Sorta does ruin my appetite. After 4 times you'd think I would have learned by now.

My 5 day Challenge
carolann0117 replied to carolann0117's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 2 ~ Tuesday = check -
Last night was HORRIBLE!!! We went out to dinner on Wed. night. I got a salad. Then exactly 24 hours later, on my way home from work, I started feeling awful!!! I was had severe nausea. After I got home I got sick up every 1/2 hour (both ends) I was so scared I was going to hurt my band or my port. The force and pain of heaving that much was the worst experience ever! I had a pretty bad case of food poisoning 20 years ago and this reminded me of that. Not as bad as my experience from 20 years ago...but very close. I was up all night... every 1/2 hour to 45 minutes in the bathroom until 5:00 am this morning. Today I'm feeling weak and trying to get some liquids as I know I must have been pretty badly dehydrated. I'm now scared to eat. Has anyone else ever had to deal with food poisoning or a "bug". My husband was pretty scared too that I was going to hurt my band and wanted to bring me to the hospital. I kept telling him that I would be OK... I didn't let on how nervous I really was.

What is the difference between sliming and throwing up?
carolann0117 replied to Lunita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This has happened to me twice. I learned the HARD way not to RUSH my meals. The pain in my chest was pretty bad...and the sliming thing is GROSS. But I think the pain I was feeling was even more distressing. I have learned to eat slooooowly.... and chew well. The best way I was able to handle it was to move...keep walking, bending and stretching. I also learned NOT to do this in front of other people who do not know that I've been banded. It's hard to explain why I was going through the ordeal. Now I think it's about learning new habits. Before the band I would just grab something, rush to eat it and run... Not anymore!!! I have to be more careful in planning. -
My doc recommended taking Chelated Zinc (50Mg) and Biotin (1000mcg) supplements.

Hypo-Thyroid Bandsters
carolann0117 replied to MelBanded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also Hypo-thyroid... I'm glad I found this post. I realized that I am not alone. Few people really understand the challenges and frustrations we face. -
Got my second fill this past Saturday and was on liquids since then. My doc suggested to be on liquids for two weeks. I found it almost impossible when I had my first fill and made it about a week and a half before I caved and started eating my normal stuff. Well... I tried to "do it my way"... and low and behold... I was wrong. My husband made some great ham steaks for dinner and I took a bigger bite than I should have. WOW... that was a huge MISTAKE. I guess I should have tried something in the mushy category first. NASTY... I really learned a lesson!!! Well... I did learn that I definitely have the most restriction than I've ever felt..... maybe I'll be lucky and find this to be my "sweet spot". I will now Forever take small bites and chew like crazy before I swallow.

Sigh...MONTHS of the back and forth...
carolann0117 replied to OneYearLater's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was at the same weight for about a month... I had my surgery on Dec. 27th and didn't get my first fill til April 16th. Had my second one yesterday. I only lost 5 pounds between fills. I think this 2nd fill is going be much better. I also have been trying to stay away from carbs... I know when I have ANY carbs... I won't lose. If I were you, I check back with the Dr. ask again about another fill. This shouldn't be THIS difficult to lose.. isn't that why we opted for this surgery??? -
Is your port area sore?
carolann0117 replied to jamiesdoingit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery Dec. 27th...and was feeling some discomfort (not really pain) around the port area for quite a while. In April I went on vacation and lifted a heavy suitcase to get it into the overhead compartment on the plane. I thought I did something really bad....like flip it. Went to the Dr. soon after my visit and he said it was fine.... I may have just pulled a muscle and feel the soreness around the port area. I felt it for a couple of weeks. I'm fine now. had my second fill yesterday and my port if fine. I understand your concern!! I'm sure you are OK too....but be sure to tell your Dr. at your next visit so he can check it out. -
Banded Yesterday, Honeymoon phase?
carolann0117 replied to Winning's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Dec. 27th and had no gas pains at all... as compared to many that complain about that kind of pain here. I was just a little tired but kept walking too. Maybe that helped??? Back to work in 4 days. We might just be the "lucky" ones!!! -
nauseous when needing to go to the bathroom
carolann0117 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok... this is weird. But I've notice that about 75% of the time when I have to go to the "bathroom", I get nauseous. Last night I actually got to the point of dry heaves (since my stomach was empty)... but as soon as I went to the "bathroom" I felt fine. How weird!!! Anyone experience this? -
How long do I need to wait until my 1st fill?
carolann0117 replied to NJGirl32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Due to insurance reasons, I didn't have my first fill until this past Saturday. My surgery was Dec. 27th. My insurance wouldn't cover a fill until it was at least 90 days after surgery. The whole month of April I pretty much didn't lose anything.. and also went on vacation for a week. My doc waited until I returned from my vacation before doing the fill....he just didn't want me cross country for my first one. My doc is pretty strict... he wants me to go 2 WEEKS on liquids. I'm a week out... I've been doing OK with just doing the liquids....but today, I'm really starting to feel hungry. I snuck in two scrambled eggs for dinner; topped with grated cheese..... then I ate a few mixed nuts. It went down A-OK.... but I am feeling guilty. . But I did lose 4 pounds this week. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
carolann0117 replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I finally had my first fill this past Saturday ~ 2 1/2 CC's. There are a couple of reasons why I wasn't able to gett a fill sooner.... 1) my insurance would only cover it if it was at least 90 days after surgery... and 2) I was going on vacation... and my Dr. didn't want me traveling across the country for my first fill (just in case I would be too tight). So........... this past month I was totally stalled. It was pretty frustrating... plus I found myself to be REALLY hungry. Well, so far the fill seems to be working.. and I'm not hungry. My Dr. has me on liquids for 2 weeks... YES ... 2 weeks. Seems everyone here is only on liquids for a couple of days. Well.... I asked why.. and they told me that they have found it very successful in "jump starting" the weight loss again. I have a hypo-thryroid... so I definately could use a "jump start". I'm gonna give it my best shot. So far.... so good. If a few more days go by and I find myself craving solids... I'll call my Dr. and see what he says. I also have to admit that prior to my fill, I was able to eat everything and anything. On vacation, I found myself going back to "BAD" habits. So, maybe, if nothing else, the 2 weeks on liquids will get me back on the right track. -
The Cloths are getting looser !
carolann0117 replied to 54Shirley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OHHHH what a feeling!!!! Congrats!!! -
I'm 54 and have a hypo-thyroid. The band has given me hope to finally loss weight!!! And..... it seems to be working!!! I'm walking 3 -4 times a week; eat 800 - 1200 calories per day. I'm feeling great... but still have a long way to goo. Never tooo old to get healthy and fit. I was banded in December . I found that I wasn't losing for almost a month and finally got my first fill yesterday. (for some reason, my insurance is pretty strict about the timing of fills in order to get it covered) My Doc tells me that I've only just begun by journey and that once I hit the "sweet" spot with the perfect amount of fill, I'll surely be successful!

any hanging sutures?
carolann0117 replied to dFaults's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep... I had those strings too. About a month after surgery, my Dr. removed them. I believe it help with the placement of the port. Be sure to NOT pull or cut them yourself and ask your Dr. what why they are there. Maybe the same reason as mine. I'm sure you have a follow up apt with him very soon.....? -
Memorial Day Challenge
carolann0117 replied to MollyRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok... I'm back! I was totally STUCK at the same weight for almost a month. I got my first fill yesterday, so now I should be losing again. I was getting very frustrated and I was embarrassed to post ZERO on the spreadsheet. I'll be sure to weigh in tomorrow. I'm not sure I'll make my goal.... but if I can get half way there, I'll be really happy!!! -
My surgery was on Dec. 27th. I just had my first fill this morning. I've stayed at the same weight for the past 4 weeks..... and SO glad I finally got the fill. I've been nervously looking forward to today for the past 3 weeks. I got 2 1/2 CC's . My dr. has me on Clear Liquids for two weeks. I hope I won't be feeling any hunger.... Being on clear liquids for so long sorta scares me.... If nothing else, it will definitely jump start me into losing again. I was very nervous that it was going to hurt.... I'm soooooooooo glad it didn't!!! Much easier than I expected. Yeah!!! back into losing again!!!! (I was really getting frustrated!)

carolann0117 replied to heinzfam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So glad that you're doing well. I still haven't had a fill yet... It's finally scheduled for April 30th. I've been stuck at this weight for almost 3 weeks and I'm really hoping that my fill will help jump start me into losing again. My goal is to lose another 18 pounds by memorial day. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm not sure I'm gonna make that. -
Ha. I got a Kohls Ad for WOMEN SIZES with a $10 coupon and another 30% off. HA ...I can't use it... I threw it away!!!

carolann0117 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Went shopping today.... I'm officially OUT of the PLUS size department!!!! Yahoooooooooooooooooo!!! I'm doing the happy dance!!! I didn't buy too much ~ just a couple of tops. I still have a long way to go, so I don't want to invest too much in clothes right now. But... it feels good to have a couple of new, nice things to wear to work!!
