FIRST QUESTION SINCE BANDING
twintwo821 replied to fatfreeat47's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm three days post op and I'm so glad that someone else has the same question! I sip on water and broth, but doesn't keep me from being hungry. I have an appointment with my Doctor on Wednesday so maybe I can move to fuller things. It is a weird feeling being hungry and not hungry at the same time! -

Dr. Adam Smith - Has anyone used Dr. Adam Smith?
twintwo821 replied to heflinl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I was banded by Dr Smith this past Friday December 17 in Hurst, Texas. I was on a two week liquid diet I did protein shakes for breakfast and supper then soup for lunch. I did ok with that diet lost about 6 pounds that made 20 pounds total since May 2010 when I started this journey. I had to follow my husband's insurance procedures. I am 2 days postop still having problems with gas pains, but they are better today. I'm still on clear liquids until tomorrow. My first postop visit is this Wednesday where everyone banded the same day will gather as a group. My first fill will be January 7 which is pretty quick to me it seems, but am looking forward to that visit also. All and all I'm glad I had the lap band surgery. I know several folks who have gotten the procedure done some have lost weight and some have not for whatever reason. I plan to follow the guidelines chewing, chewing, chewing, protein first the veggies and drinking between meals! I want for the first time in my adult life to feel good about myself and have no fear walking into a clothing store and not having to settle for Tents or Tarps to wear! I'm looking forward to the "little" black dress I've never gotten to wear! -
Well maybe I was a little hasty in saying no shoulder pain! It's not that bad really I just get up and walk around the house and it helps. Still just a little tender, but I can get up and down better! I'm a little hungry just the clear liquids seem to fill me up and I'm not hungry for a while. Everyone have a good day!

I almost 24 hours post surgery and I'm still sore and gassy. It is getting easier to get up and down and I'm walking around every two hours. I also had a very sore throat and was very dry ice water was the best thing! I'm excited as I can add some items to my menu today! Just going to take it easy today up and down hope to walk more today to get that gas out of there!

Congratulations on going back to work and think of running back and forth to the break room as extra steps to count towards your exercise!

I did it! Today was my band day! Was at the surgery center 5 hours the surgery itself was a little over an hour my surgeon repaired an umbilical hernia I didn't know I had! My surgeon used the spider so I have one large incision around my navel area and a smaller one just a little higher for my port. I'm sore, and have only had to take a little pain med. I don't really feel the gas pains in my shoulder, but my tummy is hurting I can feel it on the inside. I have sipped on water, weak tea and have had some jello. I am going to have some chicken broth in a little while. I have not felt nauseated at all! I'm hoping that will continue for the next few days as I move toward mushy foods! I can't wait to have mashed potatoes or even a scrambled egg! I was not the least bit nervous this morning I have been so excited by the thought of being a more slender and lighter me that I didn't let my nerves get to me! The staff was very professional, fun and caring! My surgeon was Dr. Adam Smith from Fort Worth, Texas and I believe he is the very best! The only advice I can give is to be comfortable and confident in your decision to have this life changing Lap Band Surgery! Don't let others stand in you way do it for you and your health! I'm so excited about a new year and a whole new me!

Anyone having trouble "seeing" themselves thin?
twintwo821 replied to Pamalamadingdong's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so far the oldest in this thread I'm 50. I too have been overweight for many years. I'm a twin my sister and I weighed 5 lbs 10 ozs together when we were born! She weighed 3 lbs 9 ozs and I weighed 2 lbs and 1 oz. We weren't supposed to live being two months premature, but turned 50 in August. Doctors have told me being that premature that in later life being overweight is the norm as the body went from one extreme to the other. I remember when puberty hit that is when our weight problems started and have just gone up ever since! I have two children ages 24 and 19 and every year since their births I've put on about 5 to 10 pounds a year until I reached my heaviest at 240 pounds. I am 5'4" tall and look like a blown up balloon! I have always dreamed of being thin and being able to buy clothes that aren't tents or tarps as I call them! I can't wait to walk into a department store and go to the Misses section and pick out the prettiest dress in the store! There will a party to follow!! I can't wait to see the new me! -
I start the PreOp diet today!
twintwo821 replied to Swan56's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrow is my last day of preop! I will have surgery Friday morning at 6:00am by Dr. Adam Smith in Fort Worth, Texas! I'm excited! I have been using Jillian Michael's whey protein chocolate flavor and adding about 1 tbs peanut butter along with ice cubes Yum! My children are grown and my Husband said he would fend for himself for a while so it's been easy for me. I was allowed one meal as soup any kind with clear broth and with all the veggies in it. Parties haven't been an issue as I make sure to have my shake if it's almost meal time and drink water when I got to the party. -
Good Luck tomorrow! My surgery is Friday we can all go through theses first steps together! I'll keep you in my prayers!

My surgery is December 17. Today is day 9 on the preop diet. I've been having protein shakes twice a day, and one meal is soup. I have had a headache all day today, but for the most part I have been doing pretty good. I have even noticed the last couple of days I'm not hungry first thing in the mornings and have to make myself drink that morning shake! I have several folks that know about my decision to have the Lap Band surgery. At first my co-workers thought I was crazy to want to do this, but with time and them doing some research they've come to understand this is the safest option for weight loss out there. The one question that my family and friends ask is why am I doing it at Christmas time? To me there is really no better time than now to have the surgery. Even with all the food that is out there and snacks being brought to the office I find that I can just walk right by and not give all the yummy stuff a second look! Just today my Husband and I were out finishing out our Christmas shopping for lunch we went to Olive Garden I had Chicken Gnocchi soup and not one bread stick which in the past I would have eaten several! I wish I could have had this kind of resolve in the past, but as my Husband is fond of saying quit looking back and keep looking forward! I am so excited for my surgery next week! Looking forward to the Holidays which have taken on a new meaning for me this year. I look forward to seeing the weight drop off and me being in better health and able to do all the things I want to do! Merry Christmas everyone!
