How much longer do you have?
NYCFun replied to Bjornsyouruncle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I finally lost a pound. I've never been so excited to lose a pound. But I am very happy and proud of that little pound. I had to change my appointment with the surgeon due to some conflicts at work. When I asked about reschedule, the woman I talked to was really nasty - even though I told her that my PCP wanted me to get a weight loss target from the surgeon. Because I am so early in the 6 month process, she considered my visit a waste of time. So I'll talk with my PCP when I see him on Monday and we'll go from there. -

Congrats iamtheskinny me! I had my screening with the nurse at my surgeon's office. One step closer. It was so awesome. She's been banded for 5 years. However (as you can see from my ticker), I haven't lost a pound. In fact, according to my surgeon's scales - I'm 12 pounds heavier than I was at my PCP visit on Aug 12. Ugh. I meet with the nutritionist and surgeon on Sep. 8...in the meantime, I'm lighting a fire under this 6 month diet thing. High Protein, lots of veg, lots of Water and more movement. I also have to be better about tracking my food. I look at this time as prep for changing my behavior and working on my attitudes towrd food. So maybe this lack of scale movement was a good thing after all!:wink2: -
Congratulations on being banded...but an even BIGGER congratulations for standing up for yourself at the hospital!

Congratulations Froggi! I'm sure you'll do just fine at your appointment. So, you're so close - how does it feel? -
I'm so glad to hear such good things about Dr. Kurian. I went to a seminar in July where she presented and was thoroughly impressed. I have an initial consult with her on Sept. 8. I have to do the 6 month medically supervised diet, so my surgery won't be before Feb. However, I'm working things on a tandem path.

Which surgeon did you choose?
NYCFun replied to dietpeach's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Wsw27 - thanks for that tidbit of information. I'm meeting with Dr. Kurian in a little over a week, but I have no idea if she's the one who accepts my insurance. I'll have to give the office a call and see. -
I've been taking a probiotic in capsule form (Phillip's Colon Health) and that's helped a lot to keep things flowing smoothly. Does anyone know if this is something that I can keep taking after I'm banded?

Betty, my prayers are with you. Glad to know you're doing a little better.

I had my psych consult and it was even better than expected. I meet with the surgeon on Sept. 8 (month 2 of my 6 month insurance diet). Very happy and excited. I know this is a necessary lesson in patience. That's what I keep reminding myself of so that I don't get frustrated. Besides, I won't wake up the day after surgery and be at my goal weight. -
laughing cow cheese wedges?:wink2: that's pretty healthy. if and when i've felt like a dipping pretzel -it's either in nutella or jarred queso. maybe eventually you'll be able to eat pretzels after your banded.

Jersey Folks! Welcome aboard...this site is a great resource. Check out the New Jersey Forum - great group of folks who are new bandsters, anniversaried bandsters or (like me) on the road to being banded.

i've decided to keep the surgery on a need to know basis. when i was first thinking about it, i shared the idea with a friend who's a doctor. her response "girl, just put the fork down and move some more. you're really not that big." when i told her how much i weighed she said "you're cute and curvy, you can handle that weight." that conversation ended shortly thereafter. in my family, i've told my mother, sister and cousin. not that i think other family members will be judgemental....i just don't care to have them in my business right now. since i have to routinely take time off from work for PCP and surgeon appointments, i told my manager and my director. they are very supportive. there's another woman in my group who had a RNY , so she's a resource as well. after i'm banded, i think i'll be the same way and tell only when i have to (i.e. at grandmother's house for the holiday...she's a real food pusher and nothing short of "I've had surgical intervention to help me lose the weight" will make her back off )

Thinking WAY Ahead...What if I've never been skinny?!?!
NYCFun commented on leknigh's blog entry in Blog 41767
I too can relate. At 9 years old, I was 5'6 and 135 lbs. Now, that's not fat by any means...but when the rest of your classmates are less than 5' tall and less than 100 lbs...that's gargantuan. Right now I'm 5'10/320 lbs. At age 34, I have no idea what it's like to shop in regular sizes for anything other than accessories (not even shoes because now my foot is a size 12). That whole picturing myself walking thin thing is really foreign. I even went on my virtual model to get a better idea...still it was very nebulous. However, like you, I'm looking forward to the journey. Congratulations and good luck with the surgery and everything beyond. -
RSG - Congratulations on the 40 lbs! You are well on the road to reaching your goal!

I'm really interested in the BodyBugg, but I don't want to announce to the world that I'm using it. Few questions: 1. What are the dimensions of the body bug? 2. Do I have to wear it on my arm (i.e. can I wear it on my calf so that my pants legs conceal it)? 3. If I have to wear it on my arm, can it be easily concealed under a women's button down long sleeve oxford? under a women's short sleeved polo? Thanks for your help!

Leslie2Lose - I second Crystal's comments. Thanks so much for this post. I'm in month 1 of the 6 month medically supervised diet phase of my journey. Even in month 1, I feel the challenges of changing my eating patterns. It's hard, but it's worth it...and I believe that the 6 months of practice will help me manage through "Bandster Hell"

Sorry for forgetting my name!:cool2: I'm Dawn and I'm in Jersey City.

Thanks for the welcome. NJSoldierwife - even though I have NYC in my name, I'm in NJ. I live so close to the city that whenver I feel like having fun, I make that short trek...hence the name NYC Fun.

Hello. I've decided to go forward with the lap band. My insurance requires 6 month supervised weight loss. with the PCP..and I'm going for my first visit week after next. As long as I can remember, I've always been a "big girl" but in recent years, I've just gotten bigger and bigger. Right now I'm 320 @ 5'10" and my ankles/knees have started to hurt from climbing stairs. So I took a deep breath and bit the bullet. Enough about me - I've read such good things about this group in other forums on this site -just wanted to stop by and say "Hi"
