I am a married woman with a teen aged daughter and have struggled with my weight for my entire life.  Five years ago I knew that I needed to do something about my weight and began the process for gastric bypass.  After 6 months, I decided that I couldn't go through with the surgery. Last December,my new doctor told me that lap band was available in my area--and because of my extreme fear of bypass--she thought I would be a good candidate for lap band. As I have numerous medical problems--many of my docs agree that I need this surgery.  Went to bariatric surgery center--same one I went to 5 years ago--and when I told them I wanted lap band, not gastric bypass, I was given negative feedback as to my possible success.  Doctor told me that he would NEVER do a surgery that a patient did not feel comfortable with--therefore if I wanted lap band, that is what he would do.  On subsequent visits to center, the doctor and nurse say, Are you sure that you want lap band and not gastric bypass?  You will not be successful with the lapband.  I have read and heard of people that weighed more than me and have lost weight with lap band.  I realize that I must change my way of thinking about food. Also, I have lost my required wieight for submitting everything to the insurance company--and I am continuing to work on further weight loss.  Exercise is very difficult for me at this time because of pain issues and my mobility is impaired at this weight. Had lap band in Dec. of 2009. It was great while it worked. I lost close to 100 lbs. then stopped losing, major problems with band, port, fills. Had to be filled under fluoroscope and still not enough restriction. Finally decided to do revision. Doctor decided during surgery that sleeve was best. Three weeks post op, 23 lbs. down and 77 to go.
