What is it like after you recover?

Thank you for the advice! I am on my second day after surgery and still tired from all the pain meds but so looking forward to a nice hot shower tomorrow and a walk around the neighborhood.

    day 2 from surgery

So right about now I am thinking holy cow what have I gotten myself into? I am in some pain but nothing unbearable and I am starving. I wouldn't expect you should be able to go out and eat big ol' meals after surgery but why does it take so long to transition to solid foods? I did a little cheat tonight but eating a couple bites of cottage cheese and some soup that wasn't broth. I couldn't help myself I am so hungry. Can anyone fill me in on how they handled their after surgery diet?
  3. Thank you so much you guys have been really helpful. I think it makes it easier to talk to those who have been through it as oppose to some of the nurses who give you a more technical side of what you will go through.

  4. Now I'm with no restriction and feel like I did pre-op...So, I'm doing Weight Watchers till I get a fill.

  5. Hi,

After surgery you'll be swollen a lot...So, you will have restriction - I was on liquid for about 3 days then I started to try mushy (yogurt, mashed potato, creamy soups etc.) Did mushy for about 5 days then started to try normal foods (sausage, veggies, fruits etc and took the small bites & chewed)...By about 7-8 days post op I could eat whatever I wanted and didn't have t...

What is it like after you recover?

What is it like after sugery? I plan on not having my band filled during surgery so that I have a chance to recover and get through the holidays before I am restricted. Do you always end up eating mouse bites when you eat? Is that as long as you have the band or just during the recovery from surgery? Is there anything you will never get to eat again? I want to be restricted in the sense that I feel full but I am hoping I will still be able to eat some of the things I enjoyed. I am hoping to have better portion control and make better decsions with the band. How long do most of you plan on keeping your band in for?
  7. I have not been banded yet (December 7th) and I am planning on asking my doctor not to fill my band during surgery. I would like to recover from surgery and I don't want to be restricted during holidays. Do you eat normal bites after you recover or are you always eating the small bites that you have to chew chew chew? Did you go back to old eating habbits after surgery? does it hurt to swollow?

Why can't I stop myself from eating on this pre-op diet??!!!!

I cheated a little as well and I am also having surgery on the 7th. A good friend of mine put it to me this way. These last few days, you don't want to cheat. You don't want to have food in your system when you have gone through surgery because it can make you sick. You also don't want to be constipated and trying to push with a sore tummy. When I thought about it that way, I was a little better about keeping on track. I am with you on this one the diet is really hard but the worst of the liquids is almost over!!!

    December 7th bandsters

I am trying to be really strict on the diet since the date is getting closer. I don't want food in my system when I am trying to recover nor do I want to have problems being constapated after surgery with a sore stomach. My surgery is in Spartenburg, SC. I think once we make it past the first two weeks, it should hopefully start to get easier.

    7 days post op

Did you have to do liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery and if so did you cheat at all??? I am just wondering why you can't lower yourself to 1000 calories prior to surgery assuming they are solid calories and not junk food. What is the purpose of liquids? It's bad enough you have to have it after surgery.

    What is Bandster Hell?

I am having surgery on the 7th as well. Still trying to learn all of this myself but that one story above where it gets stuck and she panicks sounds horrible. That is my biggest fear
  12. I am getting banded on December 7th. I have mixed feelings about the whole process but I am determined to see it through. Haiting the liquid diet!!! The shakes are so awful and I am finding it very difficult to choke them down. I have resorted to one egg a day in place of one of my four shakes. I also don't mind the chicken soup but beyond that I struggle. I am wondering what happens if you don't follow the diet completely?
