You need to get some fiber tablets. I had even thought of it until someone reminded me. It is easy to get constipated in the early days of being banded. Also, keep drinking fluids.

Anyone else intimidated by the skinny's at the gym??
ansoninc replied to JMinDallas's topic in Fitness & Exercise
The best i can say is to Hell with everyone else. i am at the gym to do what i have to do for me. If you think people are staring at you at the gym and thinking bad things, they could just as easily be admiring you for doing something about your weight. I have a personal trainer i see twice a week . She developed a program for me and works works with me by setting up the machines and making sure I do everything right and kicking me in the butt when i slack off. She is the best money i have spent. I do make sure that I have decent workout clothes. I don't buy the high end ones, because that seems to make you stand out more. I prefer to blend in with the rest of the "gym rats". I do find it amusing to see the women come in with the designer gym clothes and full make up. That is what people end up looking at. -
I bought a case of it at Sams before my surgery on 11/29. The taste does take a bit to get use to, but they are not that bad. I keep a bottle on my desk and one by my sofa so I always see them and take a sip or two. I try to get through a bottle a day.

I was banded on 11/29 and i am also on the Puree/mushy diet. It is amazing the things i find to puree. It is often hard to get the measurements right. I start with 4 oz and then I use broth to get in the the right consistency and I end up over the 4 oz. Somewhere I read that ice cube trays are 4 oz sections. so now after I puree something I make enough to fill some sections in an ice tray. Thay way at my next meal I just pop out 4 sections and put them in the microwave. I have had to buy a electric cup warmer to put my dish on to keep the food hot because we have to take small bites and wait in between. It is a lot different then shoving a cheeseburger in my mouth and driving. "Times they are a changing!"

I was banded on 11/29. I seem to have problems getting all of my protein in. I was told to try "protein shots" . Does anyone have any suggestions on which ones to buy and where to get them? Thanks Diana

If the first therapist did not work, look for another. Sometimes it takes a while to find the right one. As others have said, find one that specializes with eating disorders. Hang in there diana

So what are you going to do when you loose your weight
ansoninc replied to XBIGJIMX's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, first will be a neck tuck then I want to buy some decent clothes. I am tired of running to Walmart for a quick pair of pants because the last pair don't fit anymore. I am a fan of Ralph Lauren clothes. -

Began my Journey 12/1/10
ansoninc replied to changing4me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have come across postings about negativity from friends and family in other parts of this discussion board. It seems to be quite common. You are moving on to healthy living and that makes them look bad. It is easier to be a hater then a supporter for some people. I was banded on 11/29. i only told a couple people and they are supportive. Sometimes it is easier to just say "I gave up cheeseburgers" and change the conversation. -
I was put on 2 weeks of Bariatric Advantage Protein Powder meals. i will admit i cheated a bit. One meal was a Lean Cuisine, steamed vegatables etc. I really missed my cheese burgers and frys. The last two days before surgery was Clear Liquids and Jello. I did not cheat there at all. I asked the nurse why the 2 weeks of Protein powder, she said it was to make sure I did not gain any more weight and that the liver had nothing to do with it. I think it also helps to gradually change your eating habits. I could not have gone from burgers to clear liquids. i was banded on 11/29 and have had no problems . But, i still like the looks of cheeseburgers.

Take a look at how over weight people, especially women, are portrayed in the media. Many TV shows will have an over weight husband and slim trim wife. The only overweight woman on TV i can remember is Rosanne. She got a lot attention because she was out spoken, sometimes right sometimes wrong. She was usually attacked by refering to her as that FAT women.

I received a call for a new thread for 60's, but when i click it it goes to the old one. I never knew someone could be so gasy and confused at the same time. Diana -
hard time transitioning
ansoninc replied to Ange2992's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree! Just don't have the food around. Have you met with a dietitian yet? As for leftovers, well, i have chickens so nothing goes to waste! I knew they were good for something! -
This is a good time of the year to give back. Instead of sitting and being sad get out and do for others. It can get your mind off of your sadness and meet some new people. There are many homeless shelters, womens shelters and even animal shelters that could use an extra hand. Do have a church you go to? They could use a hand . Take care of yourself!

Oops, i hit the post button twice. It is always good to have a family conference to tell them what your plan is. Tell them you need their help so that you can have a longer, better life by not carrying all that weight around. Don't ever think people know things- you have to open your mouth and tell it to them. I myself am not a baker, but a really good buyer of baked goods. Or i was until i was banded on 11/29. Right now I am dieing every time I see the Pillsbury I think, commercial and they have star shaped sugar Cookies with frosting on them. OMG!

Banded yesterday and had a horrible experience with post-op care.

I think it is a requirement for you to be wheeled out of the hospital. I have noticed that this discussion board has a listing of doctors by state. If yours is listed there see if you can make notations about how bad he was and how bad the hospital was. You should also contact your local medical board. You need to send certified letters and email. Don't settle for a phone call. Take care of yourself! -
Pre surgery I would do it and my right foot gets numb after about 20 minutes. Had food checked out nothing wrong. Make sure you are wearing the right kind of shoes.

Returning to Work
ansoninc replied to SouthFloridaDiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have seen ads where they have some perky looking women saying "I went back to work the day after my lap band surgery"! Are they nuts???? My surgery was on 11/29 and I still find bending over a problem. The gas issue doesn't make life that fun at the moment. -
BANDED ON MONDAY - 5 INCISIONS
ansoninc replied to fusionbell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Luis, That is interesting about the breathing. i will have to pay more attention to it. I have always been told that muscle weighs more than fat. I know we are suppose not to weigh our selves until we go back to our docs for the follow up visit, but I had to the day after I had the surgery. I actually weighed more then when i went into the hospital!!! I am really not paying attention to the scale though, i just thought it was amusing. Has anyone noticed that their belly's are swollen after the procedure? Sees like it would be a natural thing to happen. BTW, where can I find one of those charts most everyone has tracking their weight loss? Thanks -

First of all congratulations on your success. I was banded on 11/29 so I have a ways to go. The doctor I have used as a psychotherapist he refers to. Being at a weight you have never been at before can be a bit scary. A chat with a therapist may help you get over this bump. Diana
