I had been researching having barriatric surgery for about 10 years.   After having my children I put on a lot of weight.    I was afraid to have anything done that was too risky due to having younger children.   I also had restrictions due to finances and never had an insurance that would consider paying for barriatric surgery.    My father and I had an on going conversation about me having surger for several years and he offered to help with the expense of the surgery.    I checked out many options, but again too afraid due to the morbity rates.     I started hearing about lap band, but wanted to allow some time to see the results that most were having and the risks.   After my children were getting into their teens and my husband was having increased health problems, I knew it was time to act.    I finally decided to have the lapband surgery.   I had checked out doctors in Mexico due to the cheaper prices.   I became familiar with Dr. Verboonan and his staff in Cancun, Mexico.   I talked to many patients that went and verified that it was a good, quality, clean, and professional environment and they felt safe.    I worked with a patient coordinator named Sheri.  She was great and coordinated the whole trip, place to stay, hospital admission (1 night), and transportation.   It was a great experience with a mini-vacation in Cancun too boot!!     I have lost up to 50 lbs since my surgery and vary by 5 lbs.    I have had two fills to date.   I have to pay for the fills and they are expensive, along with an office visit here in the states.   I go to Dr. Gornichec in OKC.    I have been very happy with my surgery and see it as a life long tool to use to manage my weight and my health.
