No Restriction
kassy_360 replied to browneyedgirl52's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Elfiepooh I'm so glad you brought this up .. I was just asking a friend who was banded within a week of me how is I can get stuck on half of what I eat yet eat until the cows come home.. I just don't get it. And if I eat stuff that dosn't get stuck it's sliders / mushies and I will again never feel full. I'm starting to wonder if this was just a big mistake -
Lap band afer gastric bypass
kassy_360 replied to Jen1972's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Surgeon called it "less then ideal" thats why I Opted for the band 1st .. so if I needed to go the gastric after I could. -
At 280 pounds without being able to do much walking in the winter between sidewalk conditions and so dark so early I am kinda lost for exercise. I do have a set of 2 pound hand weights and could definately get a aerobics step but would prefer to not spend a fortune on equiptment. Anyone know of a fairly simple dvd for those who are not so coordinated and not ready for something killer hard?

Can someone tell me a little about this 30 day shred? I have a feeling it is WAY beyond my fitness level but am looking for something to start at home.

I was getting stuck on everything about a week after my last fill... My NP described it as biting your cheek. When you bite your cheek (get stuck) it irritates the area and causes swelling .. so the next time you go to eat chances are because of the swelling being in the way you will cont. to bite your cheek over and over .. so the cycle begins of biting your cheek or getting stuck.. Each one a little worse then the last. I went in and had 2 cc's removed and was told to baby it for a week and avoid stuckage... I couldnt believe how goood I felt instantly. I went back a week later granted up a pound and had the 2cc's put back in .. no isues now that the area has "healed" from it's week of constant trauma.

What would have made your journey a little easier?
kassy_360 replied to LaurenKauf's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I agree more local and frequent support groups would be nice. In the mean time try buddying up with someone from the boards. The women I have teamed up with happened to find me here.. she had the same doctors and was banded a week before me so we are kinda in the same place. We exchange an e-mail every day.. sometimes it's about needing new underwear since these are not staying up as well.. or the fact that I did good with my food today and journaled.. or that I ate a half a box of cookies for my lunch and now feel like the good year blimp. Just nonsense day to day stuff .. we exchange recipies or things we tried that were gross. she has tuned me on to turkey sausage I have tuned her onto mixing her tuna in cottage cheese instead of mayo.. we have met for lunch once since it's about an hours ride to meet in the middle.. we try and try and meet at the support group every few months... it's nice just to have a sounding board to either cheer you on or kick my fat ass whichever I happen to need that day. She appreciates the stuff someone not on this journey would never get. -
Oh crap ... going to check that fancy greek yogurt with the fruit on the bottom.. I swear I have read the label a million times but perhaps I missed or chose not to read serving size .. there will be a nasty e-mail coming on to the company if thats the case.

Chicken Salad Without Mayo.....
kassy_360 replied to georgia girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I Love chicken salad and do it with the rottiserie chicken. I add grapes cut in half, walnuts, celery tiny bites & do half low fat mayo half plain greek yogurt.. -
I had always eaten breakfast before I left for work around 6:30am well just cause thats what you do. Lately I have been making a lite version of quiche on weekends so it's breakfast for the week.. this way I can throw a slice of it in a container and take it with me to work and eat it around 8am or 9am when I am actually hungry

Does anyone else "feel full" in their mid-back?
kassy_360 replied to anewbeckiboo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Back pain was my "full" for the 1st say 6 weeks or so I thoughtg great this is gonna be easy to figure out. That was before a fill and I just had the restruction of "healing swelling" a few weeks later my back fullness was gone and I couldn't find any anywhere ! Sadley I am now 4 months out with 7cc's in my band and I have yet to feel restriction again like I did those 1st few weeks. -
I don't know if it's the holidays or what but I'm getting no where fast. I have gained 3 pounds in the past 2 weeks, have plenty of things I cant tolerate but the things I can I feel like I can eat endlessly. I know I'm making crappy food choices and not really exersicing now that the cold weather is here. I just feel like I cant get out of my own way. What do you do to kick yourself in the butt and get it together?

I am just about 4 months out from surgery and still feel like there is so much to learn & remember it's overwhelming. Most days I feel like this will never all come togeether. If you remembered nothing else about your new banded lifestyle what would be your top 3 things that are a must that you swear by to be successful? Perhaps if I master a few things at a time and just keep adding on.

My first stuck episode
kassy_360 replied to Sun Rae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I unfortunately have been stuck many times. I don't go back to liquids however now that you have irritated that area of your band you will be prone to do so again. I think of it as biting your cheek. When you bite your cheek it gets all swollen and the tiny spot is irritated and kind of in the way now when you chew the next few times you eat. You become very prone and more then likely will bite it again if your not insanely careful.. and so the circle continues. When I get stuck I baby the band for a day or so .. go to mushies, chew chew chew, small bites, extra sauce / gravy, and let the swelling and irritation your stuck episode caused go down before challanging it again. I did get myself in a cycle when things cont. to get stuck and ended up at the office for a small unfill to let things heal and calm down then refilled a week later. -
I have had the same issue, had 2 removed then 2 put back in a week later. Said the same thing about too much irritation and needing to take the 2cc's out to let things chill out. Noticed an immediate difference and gained 1 pound that week. The 2 cc's are back in and although am right back to getting stuck, some dry heaves and pain at times I am not feeling a full restriction. The discomfort is making me eat less not fullness or the band. So although I am loosing my doctor keeps saying this isn't "band by bulemia" I'm not sure what the next step is.

New here, anyone have bmi too high for surgery?
kassy_360 replied to good2u's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too started with a high BMI .. when I met my doc for the 1st time in Feb. my BMI was 54 & I was 318 pounds. He mentioned me needing to loose a little to get it under 50. That is just their personal preference in his office to reduce complications. Like a damn fool I keep thinking I have plenty of time and the next thing I know I am seeing him for my pre op in Aug. I had by then GAINED 10 pounds. He was prepared to cancel things and after much crying & pleading he agreed to re weight me in 3 weeks. Well I went back 3 weeks later and was down 2 pounds shy of where he wanted me. It wasn't a healthy way or good way but my back was against the wall and I took drastic measures. Anyway the bottom line was he still he did the surgery despite being over the 50%. It was his way of making sure I was serious about this and obviously a 10 pound gain when he said loose made him question my sincerity. -
I had what I had hoped would be a slight unfil.. she opted for 2cc's .. way more then I wanted. Although I feel 100% better it's almost too comfortable .. no restriction, almost anything goes down .. I need to get back there before I gain my 30+ pounds back.. She also took some films and is interested in why my esophagus is all pushed to 1 side. She is going to get my post op films from 4 months ago and compare. I am due back this week for more films and a refill..

3 fills so far, little restriction, slow weight loss - super frustrated
kassy_360 replied to oreo4972's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgery was Sept. 14th and I am just now down 32 pounds. I have had 3 fills and now have 7.25cc's in a 14 cc band. Although I am enjoying a pick up in my weight loss am now getting stuck & vomiting on probebly 25% of what I eat ... I have an appt. tomorow and as much as I hate to do it I think I am in need of a tiny unfill.. and yet still dont feel I have restriction. -
I'm only 4 months post op and 35 pounds down and I have noticed a change as well. A few bras (46DD) are starting to pucker in the cups .. I am definately noticing less fullness and need to pull straps as tight as possible to get them back in place. I hate underwires but am told they will give better support and lift. I hate to buy new stuff every 20-30 pounds but also realize you cant wait too long and not look like crap0..
-
I am only 4 months post op / 35 pounds down and I just bought a flexees thats kinda like the corset but comes over the shoulders and high in the back .. its one of those "wear your own bra" models since I can never get everything to fit in 1 garment .. anyway it's for a x-mas party today and for what I paid it sure as heck better perform a christmas miracle

Well I am just about 2.5 months post op and already feel like I am failing my band. I don't feel like I ever got on board with this entire thing. I am down 27 pounds but feel like it should be more. I don't have an exercise routine, I don't eat all healthy food, I don't keep a food log, and I still allow the demons of the drive thru tempt me. I know I have no one to blame but myself but it certainly makes me wonder if I am doing this poorly now .. where will I be in a years time? I just can't seem to get it all together. It took me forever to just get the basics down, 3 meals and no snacking, no drinking w/ meals, correct amount of protein, small bites etc.. and even that wasn't easy. I just can't help but wonder if this is ever gonna click for me.

I did ok @ Thanksgiving, over ate a little but not insane. Little did I know that was gonna be the best day out of the next 5. I called 1st thing Monday morning and told them I was eating anything not nailed down. I had 6 cc's in a 14 cc band and had been 3 weeks prior and they woudnt fill (down too much). So I make an appt. for Tues AM .. as I suspected was up a pound and was feeling out of control w/ eating. She filled with another 1.25cc's. Didn't seem like much .. well it's now Thurs PM and I still doing a mushie dinner .. having issues w/ solids. Lunch I did tiny tiny bites of meatloaf kind of buried in mashed sweet potato. I'm hoping this fill will mellow out just a tiny bit as I really don't want to unfill. I'm not starving, I'm not vomiting. definately some stuckage but am gonna try modifying to mushies thru the weekend and see how the weekend goes. I don't have a full restriction feeling the restriction seems to be more of what I can get down without it being very uncomfortable... if that makes any sense.
