    Depressed and confused

Doreenviv ....The banded life and what some can tolerate and can not tolerate is nothing but a learning process. You didn't get to 200+ pounds overnight and you can't expect to loose it that fast either. Everyones journey is different, everyones triggers are different and everyones relationship with food is different. For me personally it was bread. I had my surgery just about a year ago .. I got stuck / PBing on bread many many many times before I just decided to remove it from my diet. Now why after 20 attempts at bread making me miserable & sick I thoughtg for 1 minute the 21st might be succesful I don't know but you bet I tried. Probebly another dozen times before I just decided it wasn't worth it. Not one of us is perfect, my choices arn't perfect, I don't follow the rules perfectly I strive for 5 good days out of 7 right now and thats after a year. Even now after a year and a fill of 7+ cc's I could eat 2 slider size hamburgers .. just now I do it without the bread. Takes a very long time to change old habits .. keep plugging away. Don't beat yourself up over imperfect choices or days .. aknowledge you had it and move on, you can't let it throw you or the next thing you know your emotional eating and you have ruined 2 days, 3 days maybe 4 ... a week..

    Appetizer issue

So I have a get together on Monday .. decided I would bring chicken wings/drumsticks in a crock pot kinda like appetizers. So I realize everybody under the sun has done this before .. besides myself of course. So I bought the frozen 5 pound bag of chicken appetizer chicken peices. Do I cook these in the oven 1st? Put them in a crock pot frozen with the sauce? Some places I read take the skin off .. others say they will just fall off the bone in the crock pot. Help !
  3. Chicken Salad has become a huge staple of my diet since bread went out the window. I usually replace my mayo with half mayo half plain greek yogurt and sometimes cottage cheese just to cut the fat of full mayo. How do you make your chicken salad??

    Recipie question

You know the tiny meatballs so many people put in a crock pot with cranberry sauce and kethup as an appetizer. Well I'm switching it up with little chicken drumsticks. The meatballs I put in frozen but something tells me they are pre-cooked. Think I need to pre cook the chicken legs before adding them to the crock? Never done it and I am sooo not a cook. Don't need 50+ people getting sallmonella

    eliptical nightmare

So I just joined a gym last month. For the most part I have been doing the bike, treadmill and a few arm weights. I see people on the eliptical and going so fast and what seems like forever. As they are flying on this thing the have the ipod going in 1 hand and texting away with the other. So I think how bad can it be. I am not exagerating when I say 3 minutes nearly killed me and not going fast. I think it takes way more coordination then I have. Is this something you get used to? Or are some people just not meant for this torture device.

    Shake it up...

Well I am approaching 1 yr post surgery and at a standstill for a while now of 45 pounds. I had some recent setbacks and had to have a few unfills. I now have a 14 cc band with approx. 5cc's in it. I am still following all the "rules" seperating liquids and solids, slow fairly small meals, healthier choices, very little snacking and when I do it's fruit, protein first etc etc. Going to the gym 4 nights a week a mile on the tredmill, 2 miles on the bike and arm weights.. My weight hasn't moved in almost 3 months now... nothing looks or feels any better. I am starting to wonder if I shouldn't try 6 small meals instead of 3. A women at work who was banded in March is doing that and it's just falling off of her

    Shake it up...

I can certainly increase the excersice but running several miles on a treadmill at 280 pounds is just not doable. I see the MD & nutritionsit this friday so will see what they suggest.

    Shake it up...

The gym was not something I started when I got my band .. the gym is about 2 months now. Only started it when things started to slow down and figured it would be the extra umph I needed to no avail/...

Water! How do you do it?

my water intake is horrible.. maybe 16 oz a day. I too find the window of oppertunity is not big enough to get in what I should as my surgeon also said 2 hours after.. I start the day with 4 rubber bands on my bottle. as I finish a bottle I take a rubber band off and just put it on my wrist. Once the 4 rubber bands are gone anything beyond that is a bonus for me. A women at work who was banded elsewherer was told 30 min. before and after so the times for any of us are not etched in stone. If you can do 30/30 and not bee hungry to soon I would say try it.
  14. I'll admit I regret telling anyone I had it done. I am loosing so slow I swear I have done better on my own at times without the band. I feel like people who know are thinking "I thought she had surgery to loose weight, what happened" I ask myself that same thing somethimes.

    Fast Food Choices?

Usually the wendy's grilled chicken sandwich, extra lettuce extra tomato and toss the roll. Looking at their nutritional info I couldn't do that well had I been home and cooking

Is it normal to gain when you start working out?

I just finished my 1st 3 weeks at the gym as well.. going about 4 nights a week.. a mile on the treadmill, a mile on the bike and a few weights thrown in. I don't have any kind of program .. but surprisingly the scale hasn't moved in 3 weeks. I figured something had to be better then nothing but now I'm not so sure.
  17. Last night I had a quick stomach bug .. started approx. 4pm was over by midnight. 1st time I have vomited since my surgery that wasn't food/band related. Severe dry heaves and nothing coming up. I asume thats because nothing was in the top portion of my pouch and it's not easy to get anything up that small opening. Very frustrating as I thought I would feel better if I could vomit but nothing. The force of dry heaves was pretty amaxing frankly. Slept the night and planned a day of bland food.. started with saltines for breakfast enough to not take my meds on an empty stomach. Proceeded to burp saltines and water for a while but survived. Lunch I did a cottage cheese .. again burped cottage cheese for a bit but not vomiting. Around 4pm I had an instant oatmeal again, same thing. I cant say anything made me sick but reflux like for a bit after everything. I take protonix twice a day anyway for GERD. How long do I wait before I feel this is no longer a bit of a bug and not a issue with the band? And if by chance its a slipped band is it gonna hurt to wait until Tuesday when the doc is open to do something about it? I plan to call Tuesday if this conts. thru the weekend.
  18. I have actually needed an unfill due to a period once. Couldn't get anything down and everything was stuck.

    Vomiting and not stuck

was just a good old fashioned stomach bug I guess.. stayed soft and bland for another 48 hours and was fine. Have an appt. next week anyway and will mention it but I think all is well. Could eat the siding off a house anyway so due for a fill anyway. Started the gym 2 weeks ago and very disappointed the scale hasn't budged not even a pound. Perhaps the fill will help

    Just starting out

So at 280 pounds still and 8 months post op I have just joined a gym. I bought myself a pair on non $6 walmart sneakers (who knew sneakers had arches) and loaded up my little ipod. I have gone 4 nights this week after work doing 1 mile walking at a 2.4 speeed on the treadmil and 1/2 mi. on the recumbant bike or vise versa, and surprisingly I dont hate it. I didn't want to eat dinner then go but was also scared of having a blood sugar issue (happened at water aerobics twice) since lunch is usually a salad at 1pm and gym is about 6-7p. 2 nights I tried a greek yogurt at 4pm and that worked fine as did having 4-5 bites of supper and reheating the rest when I get home. I tried about 3 minutes on the eliptical last night just for fun .. wow does that take a little coordination which I'm not sure is my area of expertise.. kind of an akward feeling, but didn't rule it out completely. I hope to start a few of the weight machines next week as well as a mile on each which I think is pretty do able .. Any tips on how I can get the most bang for my buck at the gym?

    Sneakers

All thru highschool I wore the plain Reebock womens Princess classics. Best sneakers ever made I would have told you. Now they including 4 other pairs I have bought are not comfortable. They feel good for 5 min or so in the store.. some even better then just good. Then after an hour or so my feet start cramping up and feel smooshed like they have never been in sneakers before. I have tried different brands.. instead of an 8.5 I usually take I opted for a 8 Wide, tried $100 sneakers, and cheapo's from walmart. I can't seem to find anything comfortable enough to wear for more then a few hours. I'm starting to wonder if it's not the sneaker and considering I could have the start of neuropathy in my feet from the diabetes. I have been to a places where people actually work and suggest a shoe for your needs,, still no luck

    Bread?

I was fine with bread for the 1st 5-6 months I guess. Now I swear just thinking about it gives me a twinge. Pasta I can still tolerate but I think swearing off pasta isn't far off for me.

    Sneakers

I finally broke down yesterday and went to a place that videos your feet waling on a treadmil.. takes molds etc to check your arches.. $125 later I have myself a comfy pair of Brooks

3 months out and BS not budging

7 months post op .. 42 pounds down and A1C higher then ever .. I don't get it nor does the doc. How frustrating. I have made so many changes and it almost feels like for nothing. :(
  25. Tis the season finally for decent produce, nice fresh salads, fruit and veggies. Well last week I had a salad w/ a protein of course almost everyday. Well lets just say it looked better the 1st time in the salad bowl then it didn the 2nd time in the toilet bowl. Mind you no vomitting was involved. So I cut back thinking ok a little too much ruffage and went to every other day.. well it's not just salad .. zucchini, a little red pepper, even the skin from a cherry tomato. . I always new corn was an issue so I just stayed away from it but it seems I'm just not digesting things well and things .. hmm.. I guess are not lets say staying together as well since I went to fresh veggies which I tend to not do much of in the winter. I feel fine and have had a complete work up several years back to which they found nothing. Just want to enjoy my salads and veggies and firm things up a little.
