Consult Tomorrow! Wish me luck!
renniemommie replied to girly.girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ganta is my Dr. He is really neat and has a very dry sense of humor. His staff are super friendly. He will go thru all your questions, which after reading this forum you will have more! I am in the 3-mo diet phase and have another appointment tomorrow! Colette -
Sashidhar V. Ganta, M.D.
renniemommie replied to Inside2Out's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Dr. Ganta! I really like him. His staff is awesome and friendly. They stay on time with appointments. He is very through (and by golly will get to every point he needs to cover) and has a neat, dry sense of humor. I am in the 3 mo diet plan part, I can't file with insurance until after Valentines. I have a job conflict, so even though I about to lose my WLS coverage, I may pay for Cobra a month and wait as long as i can because of the job conflict. I see him again tomorrow (Wed) and since I was talking Band first, I now have a new slew of questions! -
What to say to people who ask if I've had 'surgery'
renniemommie replied to slowkat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't had surgery, but I think a lie is hard and confusing to people and some people may become frightened for you as they see you loose a ton of weight (is she sick?). If you really really want to be private, then you will have to lie. But, maybe decide not to be so private. Maybe tone it down a bit, *i've had WLS and I totally changed my diet, it is a helpful TOOL". then you get out of the whole "cheating" mentality. You may have to answer questions from the curious and ignorant. When you are at someone's house, just serve yourself/stop the servin. You don't have to be 100% open with everyone, maybe just restrained? -
Thinking of GPS. Is it working for you still and how do I contact that Dr. in Mexico? Thanks for any info! Colette

32 of the Yummiest Grams of Protein in One Sitting!
renniemommie replied to armstrong1003's topic in Food and Nutrition
They have sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast. IDK the carb count, but it is far lower that way. -
Michelle Obama fat? I wish I was fat like her! Palin is a idiot. Actually, she's as smart as me, but listens too much to what her handlers tell her, don't worry, she won't get elected. And school lunches suck. Sugar and empty carbs. Bleah.

which is better sleeve vs lap-ban for pregnancy
renniemommie replied to Queengamez's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I'm betting not. Lap_band eating sounds like a joke. Sleeve is more dangerous, but only by so much. After all I've read here, I've (almost totally) decided AGAINST the band. -
What happened to the Pre-op/Post-op sections?

ask "alex" -
I asked a DIFF doctor about the cold issue and he said it was lack of insulation, but I don't buy it. Somewhere i read a forum of a woman at a business where 30 of them had had WLS over the past few years, all cold. And the cold seems crazy cold, blankets, heat, socks, etc. Some has to be shock of surgery, some weight loss, vitamins..but what else? I wondered if it was less on the experimental Plication surgery, but there doesn't seem to be enough issue.

Problems converting from band to sleeve?
renniemommie replied to Mares's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
amybaby, sorry kid that is awful. Having a epidural and "sleeping" a dehydrated fever nap for a few hours after my son was born gave me some post-postpartum depression, anestheisa sounds so much worse -
Honestly thinking this through
renniemommie replied to edwood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dairy Queen and a Buffet to celebrate! That would SO be me!! LOL My Dad says the same thing.. Seriously, maintenance is the issue. We are all fighting some issue or another with the weight. A cop out? Maybe, a little, but is that so bad? if it works, it works! -
Veggies and Protein (low-fat) maybe? I never lost weight with WW, only following low-carb Atkins, which doesn't count calories, only carbs. Another thing I've tried is recording on Sparkepeople. Free, online.

Just thought you guys might be interested.....

Everything has risks. I guess it was leaking from a stitch spot? I wonder how it is to have your stomach folded up like that long-term. -
Serious doubts after visit with surgeon (long)
renniemommie replied to mythreechildren2001's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
FIRST go to a different Dr, maybe two. THEN decide if you want to give up this path right now! Don't let one bad visit throw you when you don't really know enough yet to make informed choice! I've had knee surgery (ACL), I may have re-torn in (waiting on MRI). If I need surgery again, it will be Weight Loss Surgery first, then knee surgery. The extra pounds make it hard to move around afterwards. Trust me. It was hell the first time. I didn't have strength to go to RR, so I got dehydrated and ended up in ER. Read here, talk to Dr. then make choices (I snore a bit too, it wasn't till I gained, though a sleep study isn't that bad either, though I did NOT need one in the end). Remember the Sleeve has been around as the first part of a two part surgery for 20 years. So long term stuff is out there on it (in a round about way)... Wait, he suggested Gastic Bypass instead? hell no. I am still debating GS, have thought about plication, too new, but it is a thought. Good luck -
Should I tell my dad??
renniemommie replied to ShaliseSleeved@18's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just tell him. Even if you aren't close, etc, he is clearly worried about you and will get more so when he sees you next. You'll have a little shi*t to pay, questions to answer, then you can move on. Truth always better. -
Can I be completely honest?
renniemommie replied to brandynd's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The magic words in a hospital are "I refuse". I refuse makes things happen. make sure you know what you are refusing to. Ask your Dr. if you can do without. If something happens they can always put it in later. I hate Caths, I hate UITs even WORSE. -
I did this last year. It killed my desire for sweets!

Normally "false positives" are very early pregnancies that just didn't take, so they were not falsely positive, they just didn't take.. I've been trying to get pregnant for years, many $ and tears to not be so.. Congratulations! Go get another one to make sure (i never trusted just one). Your Dr. can order blood test right away. Yeah for you!!

kinda gotta lie!?!?!?
renniemommie replied to justdance's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, you won't like this, but when you say, "i have no choice" it makes it true..and limits you. There is always a choice. This surgery could give you the way to change your relationship with this negative Army once and for all. They do whatever it is they do is because you 'let' them. Tell them how it is going to be (ie No GD judging anymore about anything!) and walk away (from the room, the phone, the conversation, whatever..) Don't let whatever they say in your ears. With your sister, you are helping her, so she really needs to be on your side. That being said, for ease of surgery stress, wait till afterward, THEN tell them, come home from hospital and tell them you have stomach flu and threw out your back. That will buy you time to recover, then when you feel better you might as well tell them.. ..it is a secret, it will come bubbling out at some point... Good Luck! -
Anyone else NOT losing any weight on pre-op diet?
renniemommie replied to DougNichols's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slim fast is too many carbs and sugar crap. Go to Atkins bars/shakes if you want to stay in Shake/Bar mode. Bites of things will get add up. One goldfish cracker is 1 gram of carbs for example. Starvation mode happens later, and IMHO, can be broken by a day or two of higher calories, carbs, getting outta ketosis and then back to what you were doing before. (i haven't had surgery, it's just what I know) -
Trying for sleeve, might get band, need advice
renniemommie replied to megajen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same spot as you. IDK what to do either. I love everything Tiffinykins has to say! She has a great link into what complications from the Lap-band off their own site. I seems higher risk at first b/c of complication risks with the Sleeve, but then you heal and go on your merry way?! You can wreck any WLS surgery. I'd read and read and read some more of this site and if you are still considering Lap-Band surgery, the Lap-Band talk too. Some 'Official' sites are suspect, since they are unfairly slated. Good Luck! -
It looks like you posted and then left..I bet your friend is fine now, but people are asking for updates. That kind of one scary post stuff makes people feel used. Give a update please.
-
You friends are just a bit afraid for you. Maybe comparing themselves to you too. Looking good at *this* weight and having healthy knees and blood sugar in 15 years are two different things!! But, hey accept their words, yes, (even though you may *need* to lose weight), you look good! Say why yes, I do! (But I'm still getting WLS!) I hear that all the time, you look good, but...I do need to lose over 100 pounds to not be BMI overweight anymore. (I'm in pre-approval stage now for Band or evil Sleeve). And I am creative and wear black (it's clean, it is slimming-although strangely white is too). Think of fashion designers and hair stylists, they are always covered in Black!

Pros and Cons of having surgery in Mexico
renniemommie replied to pnatalie1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
NtvTXn sure has to get the nasty little word in on every thing disagreeable. Wow. It never ends.... As far as Mexico care goes, I've had other kinds of Medical work done in Mexico and loved all the Doctors and Staff and had full confidence in them-I'll go back in a hearbeat. Funny thing, my SIL is from Columbia (the country), she says that she'd never go to Mexico to get work done, she doesn't think those Dr's are good, trained well, etc...same argument we use here, but she was shocked when I told her that was what many people would say about Columbia! And in Spain I heard that the best dentists were in France. It never ends!
