Help!! Need to drop 4lbs by Friday for Approval
renniemommie replied to Deevah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Midol doesn't really work well, there is a better one,, DIRUEX-dumps salt, thus water, go to CVS or Walgreen's and ask them, some women gain a lot for periods. Also, cut salt and carbs, wear light clothes (no bra, underwear under a sundress-LOL), no dinner night before, clean your gut out. Tell your Dr that you are premenstrual and holding onto 5 pounds right now..hehe Then afterwards, drink some freaking water and eat a meal!! -
To tell or not to tell.... that is the question....
renniemommie replied to Floppie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am not a good liar. I feels wrong. Technical lies too. I don't want to tell people I changed my diet and have them tell me how hard it is to do so, when I have a tool that made it possible for me that they don't have. It might make them feel bad that they can't do what I (hopefully) can. I am keeping it a bit mum until afterwards, I don't know why, I just am. I haven't had surgery yet, I will in the next 2 weeks. My family knows about it, but frankly I am going to wait till after two weeks or so to tell them I did it, they would be so worried. I would be too if I was them. I am in the middle of a festival weekends only job and this surgery will affect my ability to work it, so I am telling my job that I am having major surgery, weight restrictions, etc-but not telling them what, so they think it is medically ness, which it is, sort of. The job will go on for a month or so, then they won't see me again for months. I'll tell them later if they ask how I lost. Because of the dang job I am being a little on the Down Low. If it wasn't for the job I'd tell all my friends right now! Most my social group is at renaissance festivals (like the one I am in the mist of bar managing till April 5th for). I had to shut a friend up about telling the rest of the group! (She had DS). I WILL eventually tell anyone who asks. I don't care if they know. So far the response has been Yay for me! I told one of my best friends and she told the rest of our group the next time I walked up, she was so happy for me and since we all are Renaissance Women (get it?) they were happy too! I do not have a full-time job right now and don't see one real close either, so I bet when I get one I will be at a lower weight & have less questions. Although, I'll tell anyone who asks. I will tell them what and why: Basically, had surgery since I'd been obese for years and at 40 I saw the writing on the wall, but that I still have to do work to (hopefully) look this good! If they give me any grief, F-em! Good luck! -

Maybe water pills like some take before period? The lightest weight clothes you can find. No dinner or water night before and light food that day. Cut your carbs as low as you can stand, since carbs hold water too. I've got the same issue! -
I am very discouraged after wls. LapBand to Sleeve
renniemommie commented on 2bsuccessful's blog entry in 2bsuccessful's Blog
your story convinces me to not get the Band. Keep your vitamins and protein up, so to stop hunger from weird things. I wonder if you might need some kind of adjustment to the sleeve in some way. Even so, your stomach is smaller. Good luck kiddo. -
Austin Texas, surgery date TBD

Last week I went to the insurance paid for psy. I failed. (I posted about this and the whole thing is GONE??) Granted I went in with a big cup of Joe in my hand all flipped out over a money issue (big money issue, esp when I don't have a job)-so I mighta seemed unbalanced. Anyway, she was all Freduian and wanting to talk about my childhood et alllll. Geez, I am just here for surgery clearance. Just ask if I am know better than to stuff myself of marshmellows in the hospital and lemme go! I even complained to my Dr. The office said they are not recommending her anymore, likely other stories, don't send your peeps to someone who might get your claim turned down! Annnnyway, I paid $200 painful dollars to the in-house lady. I loved her! She was funny and awesome (I didn't drink too much coffee either today). I passed. Duh. She didn't see 'childhood issues' as a red flag, she saw it as a interesting point of self-reflection (I know some of childhood has affected my eating, that plus genes, and well, here I am). So now, my last appointment is next week. Then they file. I am unsure about surgery. The Band seems such Drama and while it works for some, it is horrid for many and ineffective for others, but the sleeve sounds like something that will work, but my stomach is gone, what if I need it later? and I don't want to die (from surgery). So, even this close, I am still undecided. Thanks!

Approved and scheduled for Surgery 2/28/2011
renniemommie replied to MelissaAnd's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I discovered that I'd shrunk during a annual exam. Going from 5 10 to 5 9 was enough to knock me into 40 BMI, that is what got me started. All this time I was going on my old height! So when I went to the barbaric dr I remembered how my knee felt that day at the original dr and how I was standing..5 9 thank you very much, much better than gaining 4-6 pounds and keeping it on for 2 years. IF I choose the Sleeve, we will be Sleeve buddies, as I am tentative for the 28th as well. -
Went for my Pre op today- 1st I ever heard of a catheter being used
renniemommie replied to warrior68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Caths are not that bad. I know sometimes people get UTI's after one (and the hospital always claims clean conditions..), but taking it out awake is no real issue, ochy for a moment as they take it out and your happy it is gone. Talk to your Dr. Do what ever they want. I'd prefer not to have one, but I am going to let Dr. make call. -
I think you have to take your Vit B! Now and esp when you get old. Supplement better when old, since crappy absorption. Remember metabolism gets slower as we age, so less calories not a bad thing. You'll just be happy with the Ensure when your old!

Yum! I love Califlower, I've even been known to put it in eggs like a omlette.

Unexpected Complication From Plication Surgery
renniemommie replied to Zanthina's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Have you talked to Watkins yet, he seems to be the expert on Plication in the US and has also done sleeves too. Certainly, I'd go to him even if you don't get a "referral", if nothing else, send records and consult by phone before hopping in the car. I can't imagine at this early juncture not being able to convert to a sleeve, but I'm not a Dr. Have you gotten any word from you surgeon in Mexico? I know he's supposed to be the "world expert" and certainly is accountable to you at this point. I'm glad things appear stable right now. This certainly has scared me off of the Plication, although there are risk of every procedure, yada yada. Good luck kiddo! -
To sleeve or not to Sleeve.... actually I think i've made my mind
renniemommie replied to 2bslimkim's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tell you the truth, your kids already HAVE their Mom, she isn't gone. Kids don't care if they have Hot Mom of Fat Mom, they want Mom. Now, You, you will feel better, thinner, more energy, sex without a gut in the way (oh wait, my story..). Look at that smile in your pic-your there! Good Luck! -
Any Texas Gastric Sleeve Buddies?
renniemommie replied to w2ben's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm in Austin. Looking at Sleeve. Mostly decided. I have a time crunch, hubby is about to lose job with WLS insurance. -
I've spent HOURS reading & reading forums, now I have some questions. I am not too concerned about pre-post op diets, they are what they are while you recover, but I am curious about 24 months and years later. (Everything I ask is cause I've read it somewhere here and it may not apply to everyone..so no offense meant, I'm just throwing it out there). Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated, truly! Why do (some Sleeve) people eat so slowly, chew so slow? That was a turn off for the Band, so how is the Sleeve different in that way? I understand that if you eat too fast, just like before you will be overfull and feel sick, but why else, is there something different about the *new & improved stomach* that makes it hard to eat? What would happen if you ate some bites too big/fast (I read about the horrible coconut story)? I guess I don't want to spend so much of my day trying to just get in normal nutrients. Why is it so hard to get in fluids? One person had said they normally drink a protein shake in the morning and it takes a hour and a half to get it down, and other 30 minutes for a egg. Why so long? Why can't fluids be drank faster or in *normal* quantities? I worry about long-term dehydration, as I tend to not drink much, then drink 2 full glasses of water at one time to catch up. Why should we avoid to eat and drink at the same time. If fluids travel thru so fast, then what is that so? (I understand that soda/beer bubbles tend to inflate. I wonder about the focus on protein. I guess since the stomach is so small that we have to ensure that we get enough protein in first before everything else, but is that at the expense of fruits and veggies? Those are important too. Protein gets lame.. What will happen 10 years down the line. I know the Sleeve as stand alone is only a few years, but will I be a old woman who can't get her Ensure in? LOL actually that might be helpful, since our metabolism slows down as we age, being able to eat less might help! I have seen a few of you have trouble maintaining weight, as in losing too much. That worries me a bit as I might be trading one problem for another. Those of you who don't have that issue (are above goal, slow losers) are you in that boat from *bad* choices or that you can eat more? Why do many have issues with bread? Smaller stomach, not Band, so how does it get so stuck? Well, I think that was it! I am off to see Dr. Ganta and ask my list of surgery questions.. Thank you all so much and have a great day! Colette

Long-longer term Dietary Questions
renniemommie replied to renniemommie's topic in Food and Nutrition
Thanks! I am glad your doing so well. I wonder if I'll hear from anyone else further out. -
Dr, I am considering the Sleeve. I am in the diet pre-approval phase. My debate has been between Band, Sleeve and waiting for Plication (which sounds creepy to fold in your stomach). Anyway, I have heard over and over about post-sleeve patients always being cold. Protein, good blood work, yet still cold. It can NOT just be weight loss. I've read that Ghrelin helps regulate temperature. If so, wouldn't cutting out the stomach part that has most of that cause you to be forever cold? Trade big backside for big coats and gloves in the house? What about the patients that had the other part of this sugery even back as the 80's, is this a known problem with them as well? Thank you, Colette

Today I asked my WLS Dr. about it, I told him (well basically my question), he said, "We don't know really why that happens, but it also happens with the people who've had the old 2 part surgery that this was derived from (i can't remember what it was). Dang. He said that he doesn't hear about it often (I am in Texas, this might be a good thing) and that though, it doesn't go away, people get used to it... Ugh. I was hoping he'd say it went away in 5 years or something.. (Granted some is insulation and Vitamins, but I literally may not choose this surgery for this reason, cold is painful for me)

Yeah, you won't be the same, you'll be Super Kelly!
HA! I had a friend who really, really loved big girls, almost fetish, more power to him, right. Years ago, I lost 40 pounds and he was so sad, he kept trying to feed me and was thrilled when I gained it back. I do renaissance festivals and there is no shortage of flesh (of all sizes) there!

So, since your tall does everyone tell you you are not fat, your tall and carry it well? Yeah, my world. I am 5 10 and 275. A little less than you, but we are in similar range. ugh. And our hair is the same! have a great day!

Upper Endoscopy Report in relation to LPR diagnosis follow-up
renniemommie commented on LAN2k's blog entry in Blog 559
I know this was a long time ago, but I am curious how this has turned out. I am sure you cut out milk (causes mucus). "normal'" is fine, but did maybe when they did you hernia repair, repair at a weird angle letting mucus back up or something like that, cause it doesn't sound it was this bad before. Of course your down, don't hide from the forum though, I would be too! Is there any kind of barbaric complication specialist you can see, even if you have to get on a plane. -
That sucks kid. I am glad you are in a hospital. Glad your getting help. Scary thing, cause you didn't know. Curious, how did pneumonia set-in? How did you get an abscess on the outside of your lung (stomach acid?).
