on my way to the hospital
KristenC replied to TylerAshton567's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck! Let us know how it goes. -
I was so nervous when I went for this procedure. Let me tell you, you have nothing to worry about. Once I had the anesthesia I was out...I had a nice sleep. I woke up fine and I don't have any problems with side effects of anesthesia. It was a piece of cake. I had a slight soew throat the next but I didn't even cough drops. I had a great doctor. Good luck

Who is the best person to call to find out if I will have to pay anything out of pocket for my surgery? My surgeon's office or my insurance company?

Does everyone's feet shrink when they lose a lot of weight. My surgery is scheduled for May 11 and my friend's wedding is in October. That gives me 5 months. I have shoes that I can't fit into from when I was maybe 70 lbs skinnier. I'm thinking my feet will get skinnier like they use to be. I don't know what size to buy. Any advice...Has anyone experienced this?

Medically Supervised Diet Pre-Bandsters...
KristenC replied to Mewizza's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cigna requires me to see a nutritionist once a month for 6 months. There is no medication or anything. The nutritionist I see does a group meeting. First visit talked about the band and how you have to eat after. The second visit talked about fat, carbs, protein, and trying to start eating right now. I guess it's good because you learn how you are supposed to eat. Some people know nothing about nutrition so this will really help them. -
Good luck tomorrow!!! I'm excited for you. I have to wait 5 more months, but I'm sure the time will fly by. Let us know how everything goes.

Right now I am covered under my husbands Cigna insurance. I have to do the 6 months with the nutritionist. My surgery date asof now is May 11, 2011. My job has open enrollment in January for some kind of Horizon BCBS insurance. If I take this insurance I will have 2 insurances. How would this affect me getting approved? Would they just go by the primary insurance? If they didn't cover the whole thing would the secondary pick it up? Just wondering if it is worth taking Horizon BCBS. I'm thinking I could get approved sooner.

I'm going to call the surgeon's office on Monday and see what they say. I'm probably better off staying with Cigna. Thanks

So what are you going to do when you loose your weight
KristenC replied to XBIGJIMX's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can't wait to wear shorts, a bathing suit, cute dresses with cute shoes, and have lots of sex (many different positions). LOL I just can't wait to feel good. -
My surgery is scheduled!, but I'm not excited...

You are lucky!!! I have Cigna insurance and they make you see a nutritionist for 6 months. I start Dec 9 and have to go once a month. My surgery date is May 11. I feel like I'll have to wait forever. I think time is really going to fly by though. I'm going to see the gastro this month. January I see the psych. March I see the pulmonologist. April I see the cardiologist. It might be good that I have my appointments spread out like this so it feels like I'll be closer to my surgery date as I make each appointment. Good luck to all! -
Insurance Hoops are driving me crazy!

I feel like your primary doc can be against it, but if it's what you want then they should write the letter. My docs aren't into WLS, but they are writing the letter for me. You can always transfer your records over to a new doc and at least they will proof from your records. Good luck! -
I had my consult today with my surgeon and got my surgery date for May 11, 2011. I have to wait 6 months because I have Cigna and they require me to see a nutritionist for 6 months prior to surgery. I am excited and I hope that I am approved. My BMI is 44.9 and I have high cholesterol. It is time for me to have a skinny life!!

Any one else pre-op in the New Orleans area?
KristenC replied to Sillycar's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi! I'm Kristen and I'm 26 years old. This is my first post, but I have been checking out the site or a few days. I didn't go a seminar, but I am going for a consult on Monday. My mom had Lap band 4-5 years ago so I know what it's all about. I'm nervous. I have always been heavy since elementary school. I have done Weight Watchers multiple times since high school, but have gained the weight back and since then I am at my highest weight ever with a BMI of 44. I have also had back pain on and off, but more recently have had more pain. I feel that this can really help me get my weight off and keep it off. I can't wait to go for my consult. I have a friend that went for her consult last week and got her surgery date already. I hope I will be approved. I hope to learn a lot from everyone.
