Crazy appointment with my PCP yesterday..
KristenC replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My PCP is againt the Lapband because he has only seen a few people that it really worked for. He told me that there is a reason people with weight problems are at that heavy weight. He said it is sychological and that you have to figure it out or you wont change. Him saying that made me nervous and now I don't know if I should talk to someone? He was also asking me what I would do if I lost 40 pounds and the weightloss just stopped....I told him I wan't going to be one of those people. I'm tired of being fat and once I am banded sometime in May, I am going to work my ass off because I want this more then anything. He also said the problem with forums is that you always hear the good and the bad...He just wants to make sure I am making the right decision because he cares. -
I have my medical clearance on March 23rd. My last nutrition appt is April 7th and I am also hoping to get my results back from my sleep study around this time. I saw my pulm. on the 9th, which was my last doctor I needed to see and the soonest I could get me in for a sleep study was March 27th and results take 2 weeks to get back. When I first met with my surgeon he scheduled my surgery for May 11th. I think I will have exactly 31 days when I get my sleep study results, hopefully that is enough time to submit to Cigna and get an approval.

What do you say to someone that thinks getting Lapband is for lazy people? I really want to tell him how ignorant he is.

HELP! Should I not lose the weight?
KristenC replied to DreamLife36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't lose weight now. Wait until you start your pre-op diet. Once you get approved it's okay. -
6 month waiting period
KristenC replied to Secret Bandit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm with nallygirl on this one. I too had to wait 6 months. I started my journey at the end of November and this month I will be finshing up doctor's appointments with my last nutrition appt. in April. My surgery is scheduled for May 11, 2011. I too wished I could have had my surgery right away. I am thankfull that I have had time to check out what other people have gone through/or are going through. I feel like I am learning a lot from other peoples' experiences and I will benefit from the waiting period. Time has gone so fast it's amazing. I think this will be worth the wait. Good luck to you! -

I did only tell a few close people. One of the people I told is one of my best friends which of course is going to tell her fiance. I actually ended up going to her house the other night. He was there and didn't say one word to me. I guess he felt like an A**hole. I only told close friends.

You definately made me laugh. Thanks for your thoughts and laughs.

Day Dreamer you are too funny!! He says that people just need to diet and exerciseand that it is a life style. He used to go to the gym and eat well, but now all he does is sit at home, drink beer, and go out to eat all the time. Maybe he just wants make me feel like shit, but he shouldn't be the one to talk. I think the people that make this choice care about living and being healthy and obviously we need that extra help. This choice is better than to go on and try doing it on our own when we are just going to make the same mistakes and maybe even keep gaining. I just don't understand why loved ones don't always support their sig. other that is choosing wls. I'm just tired of being fat and am doing something about it! K I think I'm done venting lol.

It just drives me nuts when he makes comments. My friend and his fiance was thinking of getting it done. and he is so against it. She is only 24 and pushing 300 pounds. He thinks she will be able to go to the gym and diet and lose it on her own. He peobably thinks the same thing about me but never says it to my face. Wouldn't you want your loved one to be healthy? Hello if it was that easy for us we would have done this by now. I think it just pushes me more to be successful. Being banded in May and you best believe I'm going to push myself to get the results I want.

? about process of lap band
KristenC replied to DetroitJenny9701's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Each time I complete an appointment I get excited because I know it is one step closer. I have done my psych and gastro (EGD) appointments. March 9th I go to see both the cardiologist and pulmonologist. I'll find out then what tests they want me to do. March 10th a nutrition appt. Last week the Dr's office called me and told me to schedule my pre-surgery clearance and the first appt. I could get was March 23. I have my last nutrition appt in April hopefully the very beginning so everything can be submitted to Cigna right away. It's so exciting. Good luck to you as well! -
? about process of lap band
KristenC replied to DetroitJenny9701's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I met with my surgeron and scheduled my surgery for May 11, 2011. Starting Dec I have had to see the nutritionist once a month until April. They have us in a group and they just go over healthy eating. You also look at how to read nutrition labels. They have discussed changing eating habits now and eating habits after the band. You try to set goals for yourself now. For example, working out 3 times a week, taking a multivitamin, and chewing your food fully. It really helps seeing the nutritionist and the 6 months fly by. In the beginning it felt like it was going to take forever, but now i'm less than 3 mothns away. -
So very frustrated about the cost....
KristenC replied to REDsparkles11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Usually on any loan when you have a co-signer that has great credit you'll get a better price. Maybe you should look into taking a loan out from a credit union, they usually have better rates. -
Good luck! Hope you are approved quickly. I have the Cardio and Pulm scheduled for March as well as my medical clearance. I should be submitting sometime in April after my last nutrition appt. The time just flys by...

Psychologial Evaluation
KristenC replied to HopefulOne!!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine just wanted to make sure I was getting the surgery for the right reasons. I was nervous for no reason. -

My boobs are saggy from the weight gain over the years and I am only 26. When I lose all my weight I am planning on getting the girls fixed so they are nice and perky.

I'm actually from Dover so not far from you. I also picked Dr. Strom because I was able to make a consult appt. with him right away and didn't have to go to a seminar. He's not the closest to me, but I wanted to get started with my journey as soon as possible. Laurajean- it's really good to hear. I had a friend that had her surgery by Dr. Strom in November and me and a friend are both having our done in May.

From North Jersey as well. Being banded in May. Dr. Strom is my surgeon out of Mountainside Hospital. I had a friend that went to him. Wish I could get banded sooner, but have to do the 6 months of nutrition visits.

Good luck!!

6 months is not that bad. I feels like just the other day I was telling my husband I had to wait 6 months. My time is half way over. My surgery is May 11. Plus it gives me time to get all my appointments done. I already had my psych eval, and my EGD. In March I have my appt with the cardiologist and pulmonolgist. I see the nutritionist once a month for 6 months. It's really not that bad.
