Did anyone drink last night for NYE?
Pamalamadingdong replied to txprime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried a glass of my usual White Zinfandel wine and after 3 sips, didn't drink anymore, it didn't taste good. I'm almost 3 weeks out from surgery. -
Anyone having trouble "seeing" themselves thin?
Pamalamadingdong posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been fat since I was 12, I'm 40 now. My mom asked me to think about how I'm going to look this time next year and I just can't picture it. I've not been thin since I was a child. The closest I ever got was when I got down to 200lbs in college and I thought that was pretty good. My husband married me at 250lbs my kids have only known me at this weght. I just don't know what I'm going to do with a thin me. My BFF of 30 years asked me today if I was going to stop being her friend becuase I won't be fat anymore, she weighs the same as I do but is only 5'1" and I am 5'7". She's already not talking to me as much, she doesn't want me to do this, she doesnt' want to be the last fat friend, she's talked me out of this twice before, but not this time. When I was diagnosed with Hight blood pressure on my 40th birthday, I said enough , I'm doing this. My surgery is in 6 days. -
I'm two weeks post op today, I'm still on mushy/soft foods, and yes I forgot my lunch this morning. I'm at work and I'm STARVING. I had a protein shake for breakfast (typical and I'm usually good until about 11:30 with it, its noon now). The only things I can get to in my 30 minutes of lunch are Taco John's, Wendy's and B-Bops (burger joint) and a Chinese place. The only one of these places I ever really went to pre surgery was B-Bops and the Chinese place. What is the lesser of the evils here. I need something, but don't want to eat badly and I'm still not on a full diet. Any ideas?

whats your favorite mushie food?
Pamalamadingdong replied to thejaketucker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tuna salad, pork and beans, mashed up, mashed potatoes (real not instant). Oatmeal doesn't sit well with me and I can only eat about 1/4 cup and I'm hungry again in about 2 hours where as with the other stuff I can go 3.5 to 4 hours. -
What can I do?
Pamalamadingdong replied to Pamalamadingdong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, I went with the chili from Wendy's, it was good, and I must have done OK becuase I feel fine. -
TO MUSH OR NOT 2nd week of being banded
Pamalamadingdong replied to Eveandlauren23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to not do anything crunchy until after my first fill. I'm on purees after 1 week of general liquids. I've had tuna and I pureed some lentil Soup and put some chicken breasts in it, it was really good. I ate about a 1/2 cup (maybe 3/4 of a cup) of the soup, a pudding cup and about 1/2 a cup and peas and I tell you I feel like I ate a full Thanksgiving meal, I feel guilty like I cheated, but I didn't. Who knew that little bit of food could do so much. -
Amber I was the same day, my worst day was day 2 post op, I was just miserable. I slept for about 4 days straight and couldn't barely stomach water for about 2 full days. Day 3 was much better by day 5 and was starting to feel hungry. Give it a few more days, you should feel much better if you don't, call your dr.

Portion size meals
Pamalamadingdong replied to LanceBijeaux's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is probably a combo of everything, eating less working out more and a boosted metabolism. You sound like one of the lucky ones who can keep his eating in check with minimal restriction. I would venture a guess at this point and say, until(if) you plateau what you are doing is what you need to be doing. -
Did they forget to put in the BAND
Pamalamadingdong replied to SCRUPPLES's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm starting to feel less restriction. I'm a week out now I'm drinking like I usually do but I'm still getting full really fast, well the jell-o cups I eat fill me up for about an hour. I'm not taking any pills, too afraid to get anything stuck, but I'm definitely hungry and able to eat my pureed foods with ease. -
I've been peeing a lot less since surgery too, I had a hard time going at all for the first few days, but I could. I've had several abdominal surgery's (5 to be exact now) and don't ever recall this happening. I didn't even think to ask my dr about it, I'm just glad I'm not going every 2 hours like I was before. But I was drinking nothing but soda all day now it is just water a little juice and protein shakes.

Carbonated drinks
Pamalamadingdong replied to Stephanie702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr says no carbonation or alcohol for 6 months, and then only in moderation, very very moderated. -
super bloated from fluids in the hospital
Pamalamadingdong replied to esme1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oddly enough keep drinking your water and it will come off in a day or two. -
Does anyone gain weight in the first few weeks after surgery?
Pamalamadingdong replied to ascicles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just coming here to ask the same thing, I gained 3lbs overnight. I'm 6 days post op and was a little surprised, when I got on the scale this morning. I'd lost like 5 lbs the first 5 days but I'm up 3 now, its really frustrating when you are starving and the scale goes UP. I don't know what is going on but I too would like to hear if anyone has any ideas. -
Not pooping??
Pamalamadingdong replied to disneymom1978's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have this problem as well but it is normal for me to go a week with out going. I actually had to take 2 does of laxative over 2 days to get any action pre op I started 2 days early because I knew this would be an issue, it always is. -
Advice needed, please.
Pamalamadingdong replied to sbrick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah your dr is a dick. Unless you had bypass 30 pounds in 6 weeks a LOT. 17 pounds in 6 weeks is pretty good, I would either tell your dr to stuff it and lose the nasty bedside manner. I've just been banded this week and I promise you if my dr talks to me like that I will walk out the door and he can go f himself, I'm not paying him thousands of dollars to be treated like crap. Everyone loose weight at their own pace, you can't be bullied in to it. If that were the case then there would be no fat people anywhere. -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
Pamalamadingdong replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually came home from the hospital a pound heavier than when I went in, I'm guessing it was water weight. I'm down 5lbs since last Tuesday (surgery day) I lost 12 lbs post op. I would think it would move faster but hey I'm down 17 lbs in less than 3 weeks. Its also that time for me so I always gain a pound or two of water. I was hoping to be down 13 lbs (25 total) by my first fill in 5ish weeks, I think I will make it. -
Eating what I want
Pamalamadingdong replied to krp2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I say if it works for you do it. If you are happy and satisfied eating small amounts of what you want you are going to be much more successful in the long run than denying your self all the things you love to eat small amounts of things you hate. LOW is correct average people eat what they want they just have the ability to stop at one or two where as someone like me would eat the whole bag then stop. But once we reach our goal weight doesn't mean we can go back to eating what ever, this will be a life time of change not just a few months till we reach X weight. I think I'll be more like you eating want (mostly I lived on carbs so will have to really cut back on those) I want just much smaller portions of it. I will also be working out and the combo of the two will get me to where I need to be. -

Pamalamadingdong replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ours is painfully slow 2 days clear liquids post op Day 3: one to two weeks post op general liquids 3 to 4 weeks post op pureed foods 4 to 5 weeks post you can add things like eggs cottage cheese, oatmeal cream of wheat etc.... 6 to 7 weeks post op soft proteins like tuna, ground chicken, turkey etc... 8 to 10 weeks post op you can start adding un ground foods very slowly. We are told to avoid all starches like potatoes, pasta, rice and bread, to have them rarely and in very small portions. Again the discrepancies between drs is laughable. -
Christmas loss
Pamalamadingdong replied to Fluffy_Gurl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seeing as I can't eat anything other than mush (hopedfully starting next week) until after the New Year I'm going to be losing. There won't be any little cheats for me, I will actaully go the entire month of December on a liqud diet. I will be ok with it once its's over, but right now it freaking sucks, my family is at a dinner party eating prime rib and I'm at home drinking a protein shake, so I don't make anyone uncomfortable. -
Finally!! 100 pounds gone.
Pamalamadingdong replied to Startingoverat50's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats to you, that is an amazing milestone. I can't wait to be where you are. I love reading the success of others, makes this crappy time seem worth it knowing it can be done. -

You will be suprised by tomorrow or Monday you will feel like a different person. I was pretty sure Thrusday I had made the biggest mistake of my life.

Pamalamadingdong replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
pureed chili sounds yummy I will have to try that, I can move on to pureed foods on Tuesday I think. I was able to eat Jell-o today (first time since surgery) I'm taking it real slow I don't want to do to much too soon, even though my stomach just growled. First time since Tuesday pre surgery. -
AHHHH what a relief...
Pamalamadingdong replied to zeniada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is good to hear this is what makes me so nervous about getting fills, the dr not hearing me if I tell him my band is too tight. What is PBing? I'm trying to learn the lingo, was just banded on Tuesday. -
pain and uncomfortable
Pamalamadingdong replied to kittykat123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded the 14th and feel, almost, human today. Still really sore, but not pain like I had yesterday, well I did just take some narcs about 30 minutes ago becuase my gut is killing me, I think I did too much today. Yesterday I thought I made a mistake and today makes me think that I may be OK. I was actually counting down the days until I can eat real food. I want and egg roll in the worlds worst way. -
Taco Shells
Pamalamadingdong replied to Linnielady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I love taco's. I'm hopeing that I'll still be able to eat my favs Tasty Taco's (any one from Des Moines will know what I'm talking about) once and awhile. They are to die for by they are a little doughy.
