    Still hate my band

Not saying this to be mean, but you really do not understand the band, you don't have to eat only baked chicken, you just have to be mindful of what you do eat. Sounds like the bypass would have been better for you, you want to eat what ever you want to eat and lose weight that is what the bypass does. Sadly people like you who get the bypass and keep eating like they were will lose their weight but they will also gain it all back. You need to get your head into the right frame of mind before you choose another type of surgery. You are very right in that you really need to think about this before you do it, this isn't a quick easy fix.

    Shocked at Weight

I weight myself every Monday, I battle getting on the scale every day but everyone says once a week. I was in bandster hell for about 2 weeks didn't lose a pound a 1/2 pound a 1/4 pound nothing. I still haven't had a fill and can and occasionally do eat what ever I want. I get my 1st fill on the 24th, but i the last 2 weeks I've lost 4 lbs so I'm happy with that, and don't expect it to go up much more than that I'm just looking forward to not being hungry every 2 hours.

Are you open about being banded or

All my coworkers know, mostly because 2 of my coworkers had this done and they were the ones that helped me make the choice to do it. 2 of my friends know, and it has cost me the friendship of one of them, she's being a nasty bitch and I just don't want to talk to her until she pulls her head out of her self absorbed back side and realizes that I'm done being miserable even with her along for the ride. Sorry for the rant... My family knows but the rest of my friends do not, after the crap I've gone through with one of them I don't want the rest of them to know right now.
  5. I had my surgery on a Tuesday and went back the following Wednesday so one full week. I'd have gone back Monday but had appointments at the dr's office both days in the middle of the day so it was easier to stay off of work than go in and try and justify taking off 2 or 3 hours for the appointments each day.

    December 2010 Bandsters out there?

How regular were you before? I know I only went maybe once a week, sometimes twice. I've been like that for as long as I can remember, I think it is a family thing, I have cousins who are the same way. But think about how you were pre surgery, and think about how much less you are eating. Are you uncomfortable? If you're not you just may not have to go.

    Feeling discouraged

There was a similar post a few weeks ago. Basically those we think our are friends turn out not to be in situations like this. Its like we each have one role in our group and once we try and change out of what that roll should be we just don't "fit" with that person/group anymore. My BFF of 30 years is being a nasty bitch about this, I've actually stopped talking to her. She talked me out of this surgery twice before, but not this time. She emailed me today and said "So skinny bitch how much weight have you lost now?" I didn't answer her. That was the first email I've gotten from her in 2 weeks. I know it is because she is jealous she's we weight the same, or we did, and she is 6 inches shorter than I am, she is not happy with herself, and she doesn't have the support or the will to help her self. But I'm not going to let her take me down with her. All that said, you are going to have friendship dynamics change because of this, sadly you may actually lose friends, but you will gain new ones. Some people just can't handle the change from fat friend to healthy friend.

    Keep the "fat" comments coming.....

I'm sorry about your mom. I think your father was probably raised with that witches mouth. She's beyond rude, My husband grandmother was blunt, but she wasn't cruel. like this. She would say something like are you happy like that? If you said yes then she would say good, if not she would say don't bitch do. I'm glad you are using it as a positive and not letting it get you down.

    Would You Have Waited?

10k? I just got the hospital bill and it was just shy of $22k? Thankfully I only have to pay $250 of that. That said no I wouldn't have waited, just think if you waited 3 years you would JUST be started on this journey, like I am, I'm kicking myself for not doing this 3 years ago when I first considered it.

    December 2010 Bandsters out there?

I'm too embarrassed to go into a gym. The last time I went to one about 4 years ago, I had two different people try and "encourage" me by saying things like "Wow is it hard for some one like you to do this? but good for you? Hello I'm not THAT fat, I was 5'7" and 230. Anyway that is just me. I have an elliptical machine that I'm using. When it warms up, I can start walking/biking outside for some thing different.
  12. Does/did anyone else have to stay the night at the hospital? My clinic requires it, not only that but I have to spend the ENTIRE next day there as well. Was told I wouldn't be discharged until 3:00 or 4:00pm Wednesday (surgery is Tuesday). The late discharge is so we can take yet ANOTHER "class" on what you can and cannot do post op. I'm really annoyed that I have to stay the night, I've had more invasive procedures where they were pushing me out the door as they were trying to wake me up. I don't get it.

    December 2010 Bandsters out there?

23 lbs in 4 weeks is amazing, you probably don't need a fill. Are you hungry at all? I'm only down 6lbs since the 14th, and I know it is because I haven't been able to worked out, the day after I got the OK to start working out I had a kidney stone attack and had surgery, again, this Tuesday and am not allowed to exercise until this coming Tuesday.
  14. I have to disagree with fluffy, from what I hear and understand of the band once you find that "sweet spot" your hunger should be sated with smaller amounts of food for 4 or 5 hours, that is the goal. My coworkers who have had this done both say they do get hungry just not as often as they used too. I have to ask are you physically hungry (your stomach growling, mine hurts now when its hungry, kind of crampy) or is it just in your head? I've noticed that I eat when my brains says I should be hungry not when my stomach says I am. I'm working on ignoring my head and listening to my stomach, it is hard to do after 30 years of just eating what ever when ever. I'm only 3 1/2 weeks out from surgery so I haven't had a fill yet, but but what I've said is what I've heard from people here, co workers and my dr's office.

Help! Going out to dinner tomorrow

Try the Quesos de España con Membrillo; Assortment of Spanish cheeses with quince paste. Order something and pick at it you can make it look like you are eating it, if it is too solid for you. If your friend is so into nutrition and being healthy then why can't you tell her? Would she be judgmental about WLS?

    Weight Watchers help

Oh that makes more sense. I wouldn't worry so much about the points and just track your food. I never thought of doing that.

    SLOW SLOW Weight loss

Um that is AWESOME! I've only lost 6 pounds since my surgery on Dec 14th.

    Weight Watchers help

WW does allow carbs. But you don't really need WW, unless you like the support they give. I think you will have a hard time eating 31 points worth of food with a band. I did it before and had to eat 28 points and that was a lot of food . I'd stick with one diet at a time and since you are banded deal with that one and maybe use WW to help you keep your weight off later.

    Do you still have coffee?

If you are only drinking a 1/2 cup or a cup a day, I wouldn't worry at all about it. My NUT and dr said one cup of coffee a day, with low fat creamer and or sugar substitute (or just black) is fine and that you shouldn't deprive yourself if it is something you truly enjoy having.
  20. Did the same thing, gained 3 lbs about 6 days post op, that was just TOM weight and was gone the next day, and didn't lose another pound until I got on the scale this morning and I'll be 3 weeks post op on Tuesday. It was a really frustrating 2 weeks.

    How to deal with friends?

Honk, you are correct, to a degree. I'm not sure about Jackie, but for me, a simple phone call the day after surgery to see how I'm doing, not a pouty, I wanted to go to lunch for my birthday but since you can't eat I guess I won't get to see you. This is what my BFF said to me the day before my surgery, nothing about if I was nervous or how I was feeling, just OH well since we can't do what I want we won't do anything at all. A person can be supportive with out being intrusive.

    How to deal with friends?

Jackie my BFF is the same way. She CAN have WLS she just won't, says if she can't do it on her own then it isn't real. Yep, she doesn't support this AT ALL. In fact since I've started this process back in November she's cut her contact with me. She's asked, what I'm assuming is out of politeness, how I'm feeling but never anything supportive. We've been friends since we were 11 and 12 years old we are now 40 and 41, I have a feeling this will end our friendship. I'm discovering she is far to self involved and if it isn't about her then she doesn't want to hear about it. Sadly there are going to be people in our lives, the ones we thought would be there that will not accept a new "skinny" us. Sad as it may be we are going to have to let them go, we are doing something for ourselves, our health and our families, we can't have others take that away from us.

    new goals for January

I want to get a good exercise routine going. I'm far to hit and miss right now. I want to lose 7 more lbs by my first fill Jan 24th. My big goal is to be down 60 llbs by the 4th of July. That puts me under 200 pounds for the first time in my adult life. I'm really going to have to work for that one, and I'm going to.

    December 2010 Bandsters out there?

FREAKING FINALLY! After 2 weeks of no weight loss the scale finally moved down 2 lbs. I'll be 3 weeks post op Tuesday, oh and Tuesday I go in for a lithotripys to remove a kidney stone. I haven't had a fill yet so I think I should be ok, with out talking to my dr. My Urologist knows about the lap band and said it was just fine.
