Are you open about being banded or
Stephy5 replied to mom2amwt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be banded this Wednesday. I personally am telling people. My wish is that I get to tell people and that the rumors don't start flying first. .I don't care if they agree with it or not. But I am asking for peoples support. At this point I have only found one person in my life that isn't being supportive, but truly not my problem. But I figure if they hear it from me the better I may be able to educate people. I have a few friends who have had this done and have noticed the ones who have told people seem to have a bigger support group and I am someone who really can use that. I am grateful to a man who was very open with me about his lap and he educated me enough for me to finally make the decision to do this for myself. Good luck and this is your decision so do what is best for you. -
Cliff, I am a woman and I am not banded yet. But I do have two male friends who have had the band and have had very different results. I have one friend who didn't want to tell anyone what he was doing and is hiding it from everyone. He in turn doesn't have any support system and should lose about 150 lbs. His lap surgery was about a year and a half ago and he has only lost 60 lbs. He eats everything he wants, and never exercises. My other friend is about 10 months post op. Started at 350lbs and with in 9 months was down to 220. He runs every other day, watches what he eats but still enjoys a treat now and again. Has a huge support system. I think like with everything we all have opinions what we think is best. However really the only person who knows what is best for you is you. Good luck!!!!

Melzie, what kind of protein powder do you use to mix in? Does it get clumpy when you stir it in and does it add a funny taste? Good luck and thanks -
Congrats. You must just feel wonderful, as you should. The hard work is paying off. Keep up the good work.

So happy for you that this worked out. So sorry you had the emotional drain of dealing with it. You are so right. My friend who had a different WLS was denied by her insurance on 11/24 so she self paid the doc and the hospital. Luckily her doctor called 4 days before the surgery and said we hear your insurance does cover so we are going to resubmit. They did and found out that at the beginning of November they started covering her WLS> But somehow the insurance didn't include it in the computer system. Insurance companies make lots of mistakes. Thanks for bringing this to everyones attention and congrats again!

T-minus two weeks and counting!
Stephy5 replied to KBKB's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck. My surgery is the 19th. I feel like you in the way...I wish I didn't need to do it, but I have to. I am trying to find a good flavorless protein to add to applesauce, eggs etc to give me more options in food, but not having to worry about protein, so I can add it. However not hearing of to many great ones. But something to keep in mind. Good luck on your new amazing journey. -
Two weeks from today is my surgery day. Seems like its taking forever. I feel like I am limbo. Trying hard to keep my eye on the prize. I dont want ti fall prey to the last meal idea. I know many of you kniw how I feel. Just needed to write it down, to help me stay accountable fir my actions.

Hello, i used to think the same way as you are right now. Than I realized this is a "tool' , not a quick fix. Ultimately to be healthy you have to exercise and eat healthy. As my doctor said to me, the lap band is for people who can eat healthy and lose weight, but they have a hard time keeping it off. Made perfect sense to me. I think of the lap band as a overweight persons chemo. why I say that is if you have cancer you wouldn't think twice about chemotherapy to save your life. Well as a overweight person i think of the lap band as my life saving procedure. Good luck to you in making this decision. You will do whatever is best for you at this point. It took me 4 years to make the decision for myself. -
Welcome Kimberly! My mother had always told me don't look for something bad to happen. I have a hard time with that. But everything will be great. Sounds like everything is in order. I will be banded Jan. 19, So I am no help to you. But there are lots of great helpful people on here. Bubbles my insurance required at least 6 months. But thay could be in last two years. So being a big girl I have gone to my doctor a few times about my weight. Surgeon got my medical records, and my insurance accepted it. Good luck to you both. Your gonna do great!

Docs Wife I am so feeling what your saying. I am 18 days away from surgery and I am really fighting stupid thoughts and urges. Hang in there and we can get through this together.

Hi everyone, I am three weeks away from my actual procedure, but I am working very hard to keep my calories under 1200 cals and even drinking some of the Protein shakes. In turn emotional eating is non existant. I am really finding that I am crying alot and dealing with alot of situations around me differently than before.I can't just eat my way out of it. I know this is something you really deal with after surgery. But is anyone finding this before surgery also? I feel a little unstable this week. Its kinda funny really. I had already decided to go to counseling after my procedure. But I am thinking I may start before now. I didn't think this would happen already. Anyone else??
