Dr. discouraging use of Lap-Band
Stephy5 replied to badta00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find people and Doctors are discouraging when they don't feel confomfortable. I think this is based on their knowledge of the particular procedure. I also think that they make more money off of doing the more invasive surgeries. I am not saying your doctor is no good. But I think you have to do your own research. Each procedure has its issues. I personally made this decision based on my own research. Not on anyones negative reactions. You know what is best for you. Its a hard decision when everyone is in your head. I am sure most of us here have had the same thoughts and concerns at one time or another. Also as someone pointed out to me, everyone always wants to point out the bad and not always the good. Go read the success stories blog. Good luck!!!! -
I hope someone can please answer this question... How do you know when you have restriction after a fill? How do you know when you have hit the sweet spot? Just had my first fill so I know this will take a few to find this. But I am curious how you fully know. I have read about fills and restriction, but like to hear peoples personal experience. Thanks for answering

I love hearing from everyone and about their experiences. It really helps. We are all different but working towards the same goal. My fill I had Friday was my first. I got 1.5 cc in a 10 cc band. I had some restriction after surgery up until 3 days before fill. Now with this fill I am noticing I am not hungry as often 4-5 hours and get full much faster. I also have to really chew my food. I know this can loosen up in a few days or closer to next fill. But I just keep hoping this will get me back on track of weight loss. The head hunger has been awful and I am really battling that. But so far winning! Again thanks to those that are sharing

Hi everyone, I was banded 1/19 and will get my first fill 2/18. I am excited yet nervous. I have those fears of how long will it take to find restriction. I feel like I have some with just the band and I am praying maybe with a fill or two I will progress. I know I have to keep doing what I need to do and I will. But honestly I am nervous that this will fail and I will fail. I have been on normal food for a about a week and a half and I can't eat certain things and if I don't chew really good it goes down rough and slow. I honestly hope this is a sign that I will find restriction within a couple fills. Well I love to hear about everyone's experiences. Thanks

Thank you everyone! The head hunger has been bad for me the last few days. I have to sit there and think my way through it. Well I have another fill in 4 weeks so hopefully it won't take to many for me to get there. I am ready for the train to get moving. For now I am hanging tough. You guys are great!!! Good luck!

Do your own fills at home???!!!
Stephy5 replied to ghannouge's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know it has to be frustrating not to lose the amount she was hoping for. But we were told with Lap that we are expected to lose 1-2 lbs a week. 4 lbs a month falls in there. Does she follow a lap diet? Exercise? These are things that can speed up weight loss in a healthy way. Also she should consider talking to her doctor about her concerns. Or as others have stated find another doctor that listens to her and explains why they choose to do what they do. I hope your friend thinks of her health and not instant gratification. Good luck1!! -
I am very sorry you are going through this. I believe that when we choose to better ourselves it intimidates others. Also when we better ourselves it makes us stronger. Maybe things will get better between you two or maybe it is time to call it quits. But at this point you have to take care of yourself. You have made a huge decision to make yourself a healthier you. With the stress you are explaining, sounds like it isn't a good enviroment to better yourself. I have been married for 21 years and I told my husband things are going to change. I am going to be more selfish and you are with me or not. Luckily he is. But I knew I had to stand up and say it is time for me. Please hang in there and take care of yourself. The rest will fall into place how it is meant too.

Congrats. That is one of the joys of this journey. Keep up the good work! -
I get my first fill Friday and I am nervous for the same thing. I am sorry that the first fill didn't do more for you. But you are doing great and hopefully you will find that restriction soon. Whenis your next fill?

January 2011 Bandsters - Where are you?
Stephy5 replied to Vicki M's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi there. My name is Stephanie, I was banded Jan 19th and it was the easiest recovery for me. I was back at work within a week. I have lost a total of 33 lbs. So pre and some post. I have my first fill on Friday and I am praying it will help. I am finding I have very little restriction and I hope it will give me more. I have not lost a lb in a week and it scares me a bit. Anyway nice to meet you guys and I hope we all have successful journeys ahead!!! -
I am wondering what I should expect and should I do? I was banded 1/19/11. I lost 18 lbs pre op and so far have lost about 14 pounds post op. I am happy with that. But I am not eating very much at all and I have not lost a lb in over a week. I know the idea is slow weight loss and I appreciate that. But I am worried that maybe I am eating to little and starving my body. I am now eating some food. Still trying to stay with softer foods. I often have to remind myself to eat, because I am not hungry. Anyway I get my first fill next week. But can someone give me advice on what I should expect. I think I am just worried this might not work and that is just not an option for me. Thanks

Newly Banded. Any regrets?
Stephy5 replied to BASIMAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there, I was banded 1/19 and have had no regrets at all. I have felt good and have been losing weight. The food or lack of at times gets boring, but food not having control feels great! I am feeling unsure how this will work. Will I find restriction soon, will I have good weightloss. etc. Luckily for all of us though we get to do this together. Good luck and I hope you find great success. -

January 2011 Bandsters !!!
Stephy5 replied to Renee1003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats to everyone that has been banded the last few days. I am a week post op and it has been actually pretty easy for me. Yes I was sore, but never really any pain. However I do have a very high pain tolerance. The gas was rough for a few days. I say anyone getting banded.... WALK WALK WALK as much as you can. I walked tons and tons and I think that is why I did so well. I go tomorrow to have my staples removed, thank goodness. Than I will see how my weight has done. Hoping to graduate to some mushy foods, because the liquids are getting old. Again Good luck everyone I hope you have a great journey!!! -
January 2011 Bandsters !!!
Stephy5 replied to Renee1003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. Congrats to all the new banded people and to anyone who has received their date. I was banded the 19th and I can't believe how well I am doing. I have had no pain at all. I was pretty sore on day 2, but not to much since than. I did fight a bit of tightness in my chest and shoulder from the gas for a few days. Honestly it has been a great recovery thus far. I hope this is going to be a theme for my banding. I only get hungry once or twice a day and have a protein shake or a bit of soup and than I usually am fine for a few hours. I am looking forward to seeing the doctor on Thursday to have my staples removed and find out where I go from here with food and exercise. I know to be patient, but just want to confirm how long I am looking at to be back to "normal" I hope everyone has as good of an experience as I have had thus far. I pray mine will keep up. Thanks -
I was also banded today and had a great experience. Surgery at 8:30 home by 1pm. I feel pretty god except for some gas pain, but not to bad. I am curious what tomorrow might bring. Thinking super soarness. But I cant complain. Hope you keep feeling well and I hope for a speedy recovery for us Good luck

I am so excited ,tomorrow is it. My life changes forever. I know this is going to be lots of work and trials. But I hope lots of victories along the way. I will be asking lots of questions here. And I'm thankful I have the LBT community on my side. I have a Huge amount of support at home too. I dont fear I'll fail, but worried how long it will take to start losing. But I know at first I just have to heal. Well thanks and wish me luck.

Awww thanks. I know I was like no chat the night before surgery what the heck. I will be thinking of you at your pre op. Good luck and I will chat with you soon!!!!!

Is this stupid...?
Stephy5 replied to SuzanneCollins's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also did my own thing until doc put me on preop. But I think you only need clears the day before. Have you called doc and asked his opinion? -
I also get banded tomorrow. I am not nervous about surgery, but do hope I can make this work. I know I can, but still worry. Good luck to you both.
