  1. You need to eat!!! Can you get Protein shakes down, chicken broth, greek yogurt? When you move onto mushies - low fat chili and more Soups. Can puree chicken and put it in the Soup.

    Hi all,

This is my first post on this site although I have looked around a bit in the previous months. I was banded 12/28 and expected to heal just fine after surgery. I am young and have no health history what-so-ever. I remember waking on the operating table with killer left shoulder pain and a burning lower belly. The burning in my belly was what we assume to be an allergic reaction to the cleaning agents used prior to the operation. Once that was cleaned and some cream was applied I had no problem after that.

The shoulder pain however still comes and goes even 6 days after surgery! I think it has been the worst part! My Mom is a nurse and thought to bring me every gas releif remedy she could find. That was the ONLY reason I got any releif at all! She brought Gas X strips, Maalox, and beano. The Gas X was my favorite.I struggled with the pain again all night last night and had an "attack" of sorts this morning but it has been ok for the remainder of the day.

I did fine in the hospital sipping clear liquids and walking around just fine. Hated the foley but thats another matter.

I think the problems I had after surgery and the reason for my long recovery was I was getting sick when I went in for surgery. I was also only eating appr. 400-800 calories per day for 2 weeks prior to surgery. Surgery was on a Tuesday, Christmas was the weekend before so I had a lot of running to do then and I worked Sunday night 7p-7a and Monday night 7p-3a and had to be at the hospital at 0530 that morning. I think my body was just exhausted or maybe I would have healed faster. So glad to hear all of your stories but I must say I am envious of you speedy recoveries!

Anyone else having trouble producing an appetite? I seem to stay so thirsty that I have no interest in eating. I know I really need to eat but nothing sound appealing to me in the least. I don't want get my body into any trouble by "starving" it! I did this surgery to be HEALTHY and for no other reason (even though I have 150 plus #s to lose, lol). Any high Protein suggestions (or otherwise) would be greatly appreciated!

  2. Hi All. I was banded December 6, and recovered from surgery pretty easily. Had a few sidetracks along the way, (like learning I am lactose intolerant), but overall, it's gone well. I was on Protein shakes and Water for three weeks, and lost a fair amount of weight.

Now that I'm cleared for soft foods, I'm eating smart (I think) high Protein meals, supplementing with Protein Shakes, and sipping the ever present Water. I haven't eaten anything I'd consider "wrong" (no sweets, fried foods, no alcohol), and feel like I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing.

So why has my weight loss stalled? Where I was losing about a pound a day, in the last week I've only lost two pounds, and today I'm actually up a pound. I'm confused.

Anyone have ideas about this? Why is it happening, and what can/should I do about it?

    Thanks,

    Dave

It sounds like you are doing terrific and should be thrilled with your weight loss. It is not reasonable to expect to lose 1 lb a day for any sustained time period. Initial weight loss is water weight. I was told to expect 1-2 lbs a week if you followed all the rules. I guess you could bump it up by exercising more - you didn't mention that - are you working out?

  3. My surgery is one week away! I actually can't wait and haven't even had cravings for the "last meal" yet. I have been reading so many blogs and books - just started "Fighting Weight" by Khaliah Ali and really good. Also started a blog for anyone who wants to follow. I think it will help me a lot on this journey. https://diaryofalapbandmom.blogspot.com.

Wishing everyone who is going to be banded this week luck!

    :) Susan

  4. I went for my pre-op testing today. My surgery is at 3:00 pm on the 20th. Not happy about the time but not going to let it bother me. Just very excited! Doing well on the pre-op diet. Started a blog - follow me at https://diaryofalapbandmom.blogspot.com. I have been reading all these amazing blogs and it is so helpful. I think if I start one it will be a great way to document the journey. I am not sure I am as good a writer as some but will just put down my feelings and do my best.

  5. Hi All,

I haven't been here in a bit...I was just banded and am two weeks in. I have lost a total of 14 lbs since starting my journey and10 lbs since being banded.

I am very excited and go back to work on Monday and am a bit nervous. I am also nervous about doing the food shopping and being careful not to lift heavy things...not something I am used to thinking about.

I am also a bit nervous about beginning mushy food on Monday.

Just wanted to jump on and say hi and give a backround a bit.

Oh I started at 258 lbs and am down to 244 WOO HOO
