It may seem counter productive but don't go to the gym on your pre op diet. Your taking in so few calories that it will make you extra hungry. Your already on a calorie deficit going to the gym will use up the few calories you have consumed. Hang in there and stick to it. It will be over in no time Well nm you already had your surgery lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How Did You Decide On A Goal Weight?
Doc'sWife replied to eyeononederland's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm 6'2" and I started at 350lbs. I set my goal when I got my band to 200lbs. I reached 190lbs and now getting my revision my dr says he thinks I could get down to 180-175. It makes me nervous because looking at the pictures of me from my lowest weight I felt I looked like I was at a perfect weight. We shall see tho. It gets addicting when you pass your goal weight. For me I wanted to keep pushing to see how far I could go. It's scary Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Low grade fever is normal right after a surgery your body is in overdrive healing itself. I like the suggestion to take the batteries out of your scale. I have my husband put our scale in the safe and hide the key lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Advice needed, plication recovery and secrecy
Doc'sWife replied to twins2016's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Don't take this the wrong way but if you can't tell your spouse about something as important as Bariatric surgery that will alter you for the rest of your life then I think you should sit down and figure out the real issues behind the secrecy. Your spouse should be your biggest advocate and support during this time. Gather all your research and write down all your reasons why you want and need this surgery and go to him. You guys have obviously been through a lot already with the IVF and birth of your sons. Don't put a secret this big in your marriage. Plus keep in mind that if something happens to you and you need medical attention he needs to be able provide accurate medical history for you in the case that you can't. I want to just give you a hug. Please give yourself at least another month or two of thinking on this before you make any decisions Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I just made the decision actually and it was based off of reflux issues left over from my Lapband. Also the fact that if something goes wrong with the sleeve a lot of the time the fix is to go with a bypass, especially with reflux. While your surgical team will advise you on what surgery they think is best you can always tells them what you would like. If they suggest the sleeve and you decide you want the bypass be firm with your decision. In all things do what you think is best for you. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Depressed & Can't meet H20/Protein goals
Doc'sWife replied to fullyalive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never liked the Isopure either. Just drink that Protein 20 or even mix powdered protein into a cream of wheat and thin it way out and just sip. If you really feel like you can't get anything in the little bit of carbs might perk you body up and get you feeling a better. Mix it up a tad bit. Like everyone else said drink that Water and hang in there. If you need to get some gatoraid and mix the isopure with that to help improve the flavor. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
So I was in the timeline section and was reading that at least a good handful of the men have had issues with losing to much weight. As a women I know it is harder for us to lose weight with or without the surgery. Our bodies just work differently. Are there any veteran band to bypassers that have had that problem? Both my husband and I are nervous I will lose to much with the bypass. Everything i have read has stated that bypass is more for extreme weight loss but with the band I lost over 100lbs and really only have about 60lbs more to lose but I know I can't just go without any help. The bypass is my surgery of choice due to my reflux issues. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Thanks guys. I was really successful with my band. I lost 160lbs before I had to have it removed. The bypass is really so much different the. What I learned when I was banded, it is reassuring to hear that it will help for the long term goals. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

With the sleeve it all depends on the facility. If you are going to an MTF that has a Bariatric program then it will be covered but from what I understand if you have to go out in town then they won't cover the sleeve. I have gone both routes. Try finding written covered benefits. I want to say the last time I saw it still wasn't covered tho. Good luck :/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It depends on how much you need to lose and if you have any comorbidities. Two of the surgeons in the practice i am in don't like the balloon at all because they feel that it has to many potential problems. Also they put them in the category of the band, if they have to come out then the potential for regain is really high. I know there are ppl on here who have them and like them. I personally had the band and loved it but now that I have to have a revision due to a slip I wish I had listened better to my first surgeon and gone with the bypass. My personal choice of your two options would be the sleeve but if you have reflux issues at all or diabetic issues of any kind you should look into the bypass. Idk if that sounds pushy at all but if it does I'm sorry. Just want to help. No matter what you should do what you feel most comfortable with Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Second guessing choice for sleeve
Doc'sWife replied to mom2wils's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a band and am going with the bypass. I was given the option for the sleeve and am choosing not to do it for the following reasons: -if you have reflux already there is a large chance it will get worse with the sleeve and the only real way to resolve it is a bypass -the bypass is recommended for metabolic disorders and since your pre diabetic it would help directly with that -if your "healthy" weight is 100lbs less the bypass will get you closer. I have about 100 to lose myself. -lastly if anything goes wrong with you sleeve the fix is usually a bypass. For me just going straight to the bypass seemed like it would get rid of all the extra hassle that might come up If you ha by had the surgery yet you can always change it. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

anyone following ketogenic lifestyle after WLS?
Doc'sWife replied to drmeow's topic in Food and Nutrition
I found a lot of ppl that had this problem when I was weight lifting. They would eat very strict paleo diets and to get the healthy fats in they would cook a lot with coconut or avocado oil. Some ppl I would talk to would just eat a tbsp of coconut oil. I tried it once and had to mix some PB2 powder I it for flavor. I found a recipe that puts pesto on salmon. That has good olive oil in it. If you google how to eat healthy fats I think you would find a lot, especially if you focus on the weight lifting community eating. It is good to know there is a big support system out there for band to bypass. Good luck with the 3 in 1. That sounds rough. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

URGERNT HELP NEEDED
Doc'sWife replied to Griggs2alr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try limiting how much you weight yourself. Just follow your guidelines and rules, keep track of your cals and Fluid intake and wait a week to ten days and weight yourself again. You should be fine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

USC MBA class project: weight loss surgery consideration survey!
Doc'sWife replied to USC_MBA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I looked over your questions and I'm wondering what specifically your research is focused on? All those question could be answered from pre-ops but I think you might get better insight from ppl who are post-op that might have teeter toddler before getting surgery Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Fairly new to this blog. Need some advice ASAP
Doc'sWife replied to 1cutiejulie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey lady! I'm active duty wife and Vet myself. You have tons of support available to you. You just have to look for it First try a basic root of seeking out other mil wives around you that have been through the same thing. Try any base Facebook pages if your willing to be public about it, if not simply post on here in any section that your looking for a spouse in your area for support. I posted on here when I first started out and I found support that helped a ton. I bet you'll find more than you thought. Second look up a Bariatric support group around you. Any hospital that has a Bariatric program usually has one and all you have to do is ask the Bariatric clinic. Thirdly if you really are having issues with depression find a therapist that takes tricare and get some help. THERE IS NO SHAME IN NEEDING HELP!! I promise If all else fails find WLS specific Facebook pages and see if there is anyone in the area. Or go to YouTube. Defiantly stay on here, you will find tons of ppl willing to help you on your journey. As for an unsupportive spouse you need to sit him down and tell him what's what. Have a come to Jesus moment and just tell him you need his support and to stop doing this crap. You can do this Hun! Stick to it your not alone Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Cheating with post op diet
Doc'sWife replied to Lucilla's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No one on here can say they have never cheated but I have to agree with others. The post-op diet is to help you heal correctly and in the most healthy way possible to prevent any possible issues. Aside from that if you start those habits so early what is to stop you later on from having just that one slice of pizza or the breadstick that goes with it. Later you'll want that soda (and it will hurt). Yes you will lose post-op with any surgery but if you don't at first make yourself follow the rules they won't become habit and it could become very difficult to maintain your weight loss or stop losing weight all together. You can do this and it was only two things. It's very easy at this point to reign it in and say no more. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
