Feeling in stomach when I am upset
loosing.it.in.2011 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am wondering if I am the only person that feels tightening in their stomach, since they have been sleeved. It is extremely noticeable and almost feels like my whole stomach is constricted. I do not dare to eat until I calm down and feel my stomach to relax. It is so strange. It will even happen if I am watching a show that is upsetting. Things that never made my stomach upset cause this feeling. I can not tell what will cause this to occur, but I am learning. I am just curious if anyone else has noticed this. -

I need to focus the next two weeks to be able to pull this off. I need to make sure I do what I need to do and it should not be a problem. I have 4.7 lbs to go so I will need to step up my exercise. -
Nervous, AND WONDERING
loosing.it.in.2011 replied to Hopeful24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve done on January10th. I am 5'6" and weighed 220 lbs. I have yo-yo dieted for years and keep gaining it back every time. My problem was with portion control. I am now almost 5 months post op and have lost 64 lbs. I would like to get to 135 but only have 2.5 lbs to go to make it to the high end of a Normal BMI/Weight. I honestly feel like I will be able to keep the weight off this time and that the sleeve has given me a tool that will last me the rest of my life. I know this is a HUGE step and I also felt the same way you do. I have never had a hard time loosing weight - it has just been keeping it off. With the sleeve I now know I will be able to be successful. I feel so much better physically and mentally knowing the weight has been lifted of my entire body. I wish you success and hope you will feel comfortable with your decision and be able to move forward with peace of mind. Take care. -
Nasal Tube

I woke up with one. I was not too happy about it. My doctor made me keep mine in for a week so a day should not be too bad. Here is what I can tell you about it. It really is not painful. You can feel it tug a little when you swallow. My hubby was super cute and helped me figure out a way to keep it from just hanging and swinging out of my nose. Mine had a plug on the end of it that had a loop. While I was in the hospital I was wearing my glasses, because I had to take out my contacts. He just slid the hoop on one of the arms of my glasses. This kept it from swinging and tugging. Since it was hooked on my glasses it would move with my head and not tug either. It was wonderful. Once I got home I put my contacts in and I hooked an elastic to the hoop and just hung it over my ear. If you keep it from wiggling or tugging it is not too bad. It is not too awful when it is pulled out either so don't be too nervous about that - it is not too bad. Good Luck and remember the ultimate goal. It will get you thru the challenging times. Take Care -

Wow I only have to loose 2.5lbs to be at a normal BMI / Weight. I am super excited about this. I feel so much better. This has really been a great tool to help me reach this goal. Now if I can hit the 4th of July goal I will only be 15 lbs away from my final goal. This is such an awesome site. Everyone here is so helpful to each other. I have also been inspired by many of you and appreciate the positive experience I have from being able to gain wisdom from many of you. A BIG THANK YOU and a wish for success to all. -

I need help friends
loosing.it.in.2011 replied to Ms Lady in NC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was super excited to start eating meats but my body did not like them very much so I had to revert back to a liquid diet. I was eating Split Pea and Ham soup as well as Bean and Bacon soup. I could also tolerate Cottage cheese. There is also Greek Yogurt that is high in Protein. Protein shakes and Protein Bars are also a good way to get your numbers up. String Cheese - is an easy thing to have on hand too. I also used to drink milk - it has Calcium, Vit D and Protein. Hope this will help you - I had to back off for about two weeks before I could eat meat and now I still have to make sure I do not eat meat too late in the evening. Hang in there! It is a little frustrating in the beginning you will find what works for you just keep trying. -
Anyone get to a NORMAL BMI with VSG?
loosing.it.in.2011 replied to losingitin2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is where I am at. I had the VSG on January 10th. I am 16 weeks post op tomorrow. I started at 216.8 with a BMI of 35.5. Today I am 164.1 and at 26.9 on my BMI. I am still loosing and only have ten pounds before I hit the top of my Normal BMI range. I can totally see me getting there. I would like to actually hit about mid range on my BMI so I have a little breathing room once I have to maintain. Good luck on making your decision - I think most of us have had to decide between more than one procedure. It is hard to do because it is something you have to learn to live with. -

I was also worried about this. Since my surgery it has not been a problem. Usually my hubby will order what he wants and I can either have a few bites off his plate or get me a bowl of soup. It takes me the same amount of time to eat my soup as it takes him to complete his meal so we still get to enjoy being together and sharing each others company. We still go out with friends and have a great time. It is true that your focus will change. It will just take a little time for everyone to adjust. -

I also took some of those Chicken Salad Lunch meals - They do not have to go in the fridge and can be made any time. There are Chicken Salad and Tuna Salad to go lunches by the Tuna fish at the store. -
Going to Vegas - sleeve friendly places to eat?
loosing.it.in.2011 replied to DougNichols's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just got back from Vegas and I went to restaurants and shared a meal with my Sister - After she saw how much I was able to eat she did not mind sharing. We went to the Hard Rock - on the strip and shared the Pulled Pork Sandwich - (it is actually chicken) I just took a couple of spoon fulls of the chicken from the sandwich and had a bite if the beans and slaw and I was full. Another day we went to Popeye's and I got some chicken there. It is just past Fry's beyond the Luxor on the south end of the strip. I also had some Jerky (High Protein and you will not need a fridge) and some Pig skins to much on between meals. You can also take some of the Protein drink mixes and grab a water bottle while you are walking around. I also grabbed milk at the 7-11 on the strip to get me between meals - There is quite a bit of Protein in Milk. Hope this will help give you some ideas and have fun in Vegas! -

When you were explaining your symptoms I was thinking Gallbladder. I had stones and it sounds just like what I had. You should go in and get it checked out. It is such a painful thing to go thru. Good Luck and take care of yourself! -
HELP I need Tips for slowing down
loosing.it.in.2011 replied to Audrey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thinking about this last night, because I took ONE bite too much, and was very uncomfortable. I think one way you can keep yourself from overeating is by weighing your food or measuring it. That way you will not eat too much. My eyes are much larger than my stomach. (If I think about it they might be literally be the same size.) I used to put so much food on my plate that I am having a hard time too. I actually went and bought some small bowls. 4oz and 6 oz size. I know that amount will fill me up and I will not over eat. This is helping me - I am still having a hard time if I go out to eat - I guess I could BYOB. (Bring Your Own Bowl) Might get some strange looks. Good Luck! -
Large Pills during 1st week of post-op
loosing.it.in.2011 replied to Husky2Healthy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first week it was hard for me to swallow pills. I am not a pill taker so I tend to have to gulp a lot of water to force pills down. The gulping of water is not good during the first week. I took chewable vitamins during this time and my doctor was fine with it. The main concern my doctor had was staying hydrated that first week. Just talk to your doctor and let him know you are concerned - he will be able to suggest alternatives. We are all different. Good Luck! -
Vomiting & Unable to Get/Keep Liquids Down
loosing.it.in.2011 replied to NikkiRose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can also ask for a "Scopolamine Patch". This is a time release patch that will last for about ten days. If you are able to get your nausea under control then you might be able to get your fluids in. Talk to your doctor about this an an option too. I had one of these after my surgery and it worked great! I really hope you can get feeling better. -

I also got Thrush and my doctor prescribed me Nystatin Oral Suspension. I had to rinse my mouth 4 times a day for 5 days. It cleared it up for me rather quickly. I have also started eating yogurt to do what I can to resolve it myself. -

How Many Incisions and IV's Did You Have?
loosing.it.in.2011 replied to KabinKitty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 2 incisions. My doctor actually used an existing incision that I had from a hernia repair that I had when I was a young child. So I only ended up with one small incision that I did not have before this surgery. I only had 1 IV site. Good luck on your journey and keep us posted. -
Thank you for sharing! I love to hear about a wonderful end result!
