    February 2007 bandsters!

I know it's so frustrating not to lose anything when you're trying so hard. I think it may have something to do with the body going into starvation mode and trying to conserve as much fat as possible. Rest assured the weight will start to come of again. I have begun to lose again at a slower rate.

    Where is everyone's port site?

Mine is just about 3 inches to the left of the bottom of my sternum.

    February 2007 bandsters!

I can't believe that our thread has reached page 2 so I thought it was about time it was bumped back to the top! I'm actually feeling pretty good at the moment despite not losing any additional weight for nearly 2 weeks. I keep telling myself that 13.5lbs in 4 weeks is still good. Hopefully I will get my first fill this week and then I can really crack on with losing the flab!!lol!!
  4. I was faced with the same dilemma. I was completely addicted to Diet Coke to 15 years. I am nearly 4 weeks past surgery and I tried to see if I could still drink it. It was ok if I drank it slowly but anything more than sips created pain. I'm not craving it anymore and do feel a lot better for not having it. If I can give it up anyone can :girl_hug: ! Best of luck with your surgery.

Yes I am on FOJG under the username of Issy but I don't post a lot. I live in the UK so I only have a choice of 3 shows and only 1 of those was feasible. I'm going to see Josh on May 25th in Birmingham. 4th row seats!! This will be my first Josh concert and I just know I'm going to bawl my eyes out. Cool we were banded on the same day as well!!!

Welcome to the group! Everyone here is really supportive and friendly and I have found it invaluable since surgery.

Susannah I am so sorry to hear of your complication. I can imagine your frustration of having to have revision surgery not to mention having to heal all over again. Just remember this time next year when you're slim and gorgeous all that you're going through now will be well worth it and a distant memory. I really hope everything goes well for you. Keep us informed of how things go.

Kelly, ten days ago I felt just like you. I was fed up with the pain in my left shoulder and unable to sleep on my side. Today I have no pain at all and I am sleeping as if I hadn't had the surgery. Take as much analgesia as you can and ride it out. Hope you feel better soon!

    February 2007 bandsters!

.......and I am going nuts. I am almost 3 weeks post-op and my consultant insists on 4 weeks of full fluids. I have one week to go but it's getting so hard. I just want a slice of toast; anything I can chew. I didn't lose anything last week but have been told not to expect any weight loss until I get filled in a couple of weeks. In a week I can move on to pureed food and two weeks after that mushed food. In short I have 5 more weeks until I'm allowed to eat anything normal. I am determined to do this properly and I'm not going to cheat; just needed to vent a little :help::help::help:

    February 2007 bandsters!

I will be 3 weeks post-op on Tuesday and I am still off work. I am signed off until March 13th. Initially it was due to the hiatal hernia repair but now it's down to post-op depression. I have suffered from depression for 13 years and have had this before. I'm sleeping 16 hours a day and not able to step foot outside the house. Hopefully when I've seen my consultant the week after next I will feel a bit better. Last year when I had my umbilical hernia repaired the depression lasted 6 weeks; hopefully as I'm losing weight I will recover more quickly this time.

I saw my doctor and he has signed me off for another two weeks and this is just to start with. My hiatal hernia was huge about 2" in diameter so I guess it will take it's time to heal. Thanks for your help!

    February 2007 bandsters!

I was due to go back to work yesterday. I was 13 days post op and thought I could cope. Well I lasted just under 2 hours before I had to come home. I sit at a desk for f***s sake and I couldn't cope. My port was killing me and my back hurt. I was swaying with dizziness and kept breaking out in a cold sweat. I feel like a total failure especially when I hear of people going back in under a week. I did have a massive hiatal hernia repaired so maybe that's the reason; I'm also still not sleeping properly. I'm seeing my doctor later on today to discuss getting a medical certificate for work. I'm hoping when I get on to pureed food in two weeks I'll feel a bit better. Sorry to go on but no one else knows what I'm going through here. I feel like I'm in my own little bubble.
  14. I had a huge hiatal hernia and I was out for 3 hours. Hope all goes well!

Unless your scales at home are wrong it's quite likely to be the IV fluids. My consultant said it was normal to be a few kgs heavier following surgery due to fluid retention. Keep positive you haven't physically gained 10lbs of fat; to do that you would have had to consume over 35000 extra calories!!! I'm sure you will finds those extra pounds will disappear as quickly as they came on!

    Have you named your band?

I call mine Ozzy in honour to the Queen of Lapband surgery Sharon Osbourne!

    February 2007 bandsters!

I too had a fever following surgery. I think it might have something to do with the body having a little immune response to the band. At one point I felt really ill but some acetominophen (we call it paracetamol in the UK) brought it down nicely. Welcome to Bandland and hope you recover quickly!

Does Having Depression Ruin my Chances?

I have suffered from severe depression since 1994 but have been stabilised on medication since 2003. My surgeon was initially concerned about the depression but after talking to me at length he deduced that I was very rational and wanted the surgery for the right reasons. The lap band won't make your depression better only you can do that with therapy and the right meds. Best of luck to you!

Glad to know I'm not alone. I slept a little better last night but it was still broken. Hopefully like you I will be sleeping properly again soon!:notagree

    February 2007 bandsters!

I'm now 6 days post op and feel so much better; still some gas pains and pain around the port area but nothing I can't deal with. I've also stopped feeling so weak and wobbly. The only problem I seem to have is insomnia. I'm so tired but can't seem to sleep. I thought I was just uncomfortable so I took some tramadol last night but I still couldn't sleep. I must have had 1 hour tops. I know if I could sleep I would feel so much brighter. Any ideas?

    February 2007 bandsters!

Thanks Suzanne. I have picked up a little now, my husband bless him has spent the whole afternoon in the kitchen making me different soups, the chicken one smells particularly nice. I'm ok drinking straight milk and I can have smooth yogurt so I'm hoping that my protein will be ok without the shakes. I soon as I see on I start heaving which isn't good so close to the operation. I'd never thought I'd say but a jacket potato and salad sounds like heaven to me at the moment!!lol!!

    February 2007 bandsters!

I'm 5 days post op now and really low I just have no energy at all and the thought of any protein shakes is enough to start me heaving. I'm surviving on warm milk and thin soup. I know I've made the right choice to have this surgery but right now I can't stop crying.

    February 2007 bandsters!

I suffered from insomnia a bit after I'd made the decision about the surgery. My surgeon has said fluids only for 4 weeks post-op and then pureed food after that for another 2 weeks followed by 2 weeks of mushed up food and then a normal diet (within reason obviously). I'm 3 days post op and just starting to pick up a bit. I had an enormous hiatus hernia that had to repaired which is why my recovery is being a bit slow. I think the worst thing at the moment is the nausea; my doctor has precribed an anti emetic which is really helping. I so looking forward to a bit of oatmeal but I'll just have to be patient. Best of luck to you!

    February 2007 bandsters!

Just got back from the hospital. Surgery went well but once in there the surgeon discovered that my hiatus hernia was huge. Literally half my stomach was in my chest. It took him an hour to repair it. If he hadn't been able to I woundn't have been able to have the band fitted at all. I'm in incredible pain right now so probably won't be posting for a few days. Best of luck to everyone who is having surgery this week and I'll post again when able!
