I had surgery at 8 at night and just some light dressings on the wounds. I sprung a leak when I got up to go the bathroom sometime around 2 in the morning, but didn't realize it until I had walked a few laps down the hall. Everyone panic-ed, but me. They just did some pressure on it and shut it down. Then in the morning...I took all the bandages off (well, they did) and I took a shower. No stitches on the outside. I rebandaged, just to keep my clothes from rubbing on them but the staff said it wasn't necessary. I can't recall, but pretty soon after the edges healed I started using mederma for the scaring.

AWOL Shawn here!! I've decided I just don't like the look of the site as opposed to how it looked when I started here almost two years ago. Go figure. Hey, glad to hear from some of you. I keep thinking I'm going to stay regular on here and then get busy. I also used to get updates in my email whenever someone posted but no more..I don't understand that...so it was a bit easier to check in. Enuff of that...I'm back on track...eating properly and exercising regularly...for the past two weeks. I'm at my lowest...even with TOM starting last night. I am thinking of trying to get 40 pounds off by Thanksgiving. Bit of a stretch but I've got a tentative goal ( and will settle for any loss whatsoever). I'm going to schedule a visit with a PS in the near future to see about the boob reduction and lift. And think that if I have to be on major drugs for two weeks (that is what I've heard) I need to schedule it around the thursday before thanksgiving. That would have the least financial impact and client impact in my business. This is all of course, contigent on my insurance paying. I can't/won't pay out of pocket this time. I'm walking almost daily...4 miles or so and with leg weights or power walking. Just my summer chores are enough of the strength training. But come colder weather I am going to figure sometime else out. I need to. So, lets get going gang and work on setting/meeting some of our goals.

Tonya, I am sending an attatchment of excess boob to you...enjoy on your cruise!! I would love to go on another cruise, but my DH isn't so enthralled with them. We've done Nassau and a Mexico trip. I prefer the travel time on this side of the country (west) as opposed to the all day travel to Miami, but it was free, so ..... Maybe someday I can take my parents on a cruise..I think they would really enjoy it. Have a wonderful trip and I'll work on my motivation while you're gone. Maybe we can get on the "band" wagon upon your return and hit our goals by our 2nd anniversary!!

there is a site here that has shown some breast surgery and I am with you...it is gastly. I've been large breasted all my life it seems and I ride horses so I've really had some problems. Until I found the Enell bras, I would have bloody cuts on my shoulders from riding. Not very enjoyable. I have ridges in my shoulders from where my straps go. I'm pretty pleased that they have shrunk with my weight loss but I did think it would be more. I have about 40 pounds to go, if I'd ever get my rear in gear. I do have a little bit of loose skin in my arms but I wouldn't say I have wings. I'm pretty active and my arms are muscle-y so that is good so far. I don't really see myself doing any other PS...one because it is so expensive and two...it seems just too icky! But the boobs...they gotta get taken care of. They'll be at my knees before too long!

Lisa, and all, You're not alone...I'm just being lazy and forgetting what I know to be true, I need the support here and I need to give the support as well. I stay more on track when I check in regularly...and it is motivational to hear about others successes and trials. I gotta get my rear in gear. Lisa, with a new fill are you pb'ing more? I am fairly regular...tonight for example...and this past week with TOM I've been really restricted..to some things..not the bad things I eat...just the good stuff. Why couldn't it work the other way? I'm really thinking about another fill and was sort of waiting till after my vacation, which is over, but I haven't made the appointment yet. I'm doing other Dr's appointments..annual stuff so then I really can't think of another excuse!! Hey, I'm going to start whining about back and shoulder pain to my new GP, so I can start a paper trail for when I can (hopefully) get a breast reduction and lift. I'm a 42DD...was a 44DDD. But are the girls ever sad looking these days.

What foods can you NOT eat since the surgery?
Sula replied to mphsmommy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Whew boy...celery gets me violently vomiting. So, I pick it out of anything that it is in and choose not to add it to anything that I'm making. I'm scared to death to even try a bagel...can't imagine how that would feel sitting in there. I've have had intermitten troubles with mushrooms (as in an omlette), tomatoes, chicken that is too dry. But overall, I can eat anything. I do eat toast once in a while, but mostly stay away from my breads that I love. Crackers are tough, but chips (corn) go down when nothing else will. OH....some brands of chicken noodle Soup will stop me up. Go figure. I have said before (I'm 1 year and a half out) that our bands have their own personality and they like to screw with us occasionally just to remind us who is boss. I do chug a few gulps of Water periodically, but if I go to far, it urps back up. So, I do try to do things less that 5 or 6 times before I get the message (DUH!! -
Hi My fellow bandsters, I've been AWOL...vacation prep, vacation, then the blizzard in MT and knocked out the internet connect which finally got up and running this morning. Whew!! Tonya, wow, I wish I could go with you. My vacation was a bit of a downer. We went to Central Oregon to bass fish and didn't catch a thing. Basically we were twiddling our thumbs for four days. But sometime must have gone right as I did lose 1 pound. Could be that when I got home I couldn't stop moving!! I do feel so rested, however and my brain is more active. I have a very mental job, (or I'm mental...I forget which it is!!) and the break was good. I'm starting my self-talk to get motivated to get off dead center again!! I need to get back on a weight-loss/exercise program and get consistent. I know what I need to do, but I'm stagnent right now. I've got 40 more to lose..and I'd love to get that done by year 2. So, I'd better start now!! I'll catch up on the reading over the next few days and see what the rest of you have been up to. Hope the days and nights are treating you all super!! Shawn

Wow, Jen, My thoughts and prayers are with you. What a terrible thing. Did you have reflux that let to the pneumonia? Aren't insurance companies the biggest pain in the ass ever. It is sooo not patient/client oriented. It is about making money for the shareholders or companies. It is such a one-sided process. I hope that all goes super well with you and you are soon on your way to full recovery. All the best.

Hey all, I'm still shaking!! I've gotten a new computer and have been working to get things set up on it. Laptop for work, but oh well... PB...productive burb...sort of a vomit but not quite. Not too tramautic, except for the first time because you are worried about what is happening. You will know when they are coming and will have time to get to a private place. You just "spit up" whatever you just ate. Usually caused by eating too fast, too much etc. I have found out that celery causes me to VOMIT!!! From my toes. So I MUST stay away from that. Go figure. I'm slow to learn too. Back to walking this week and it has felt wonderful. I love my morning walks. Just hate leaving the bed!! How are all of you doing?
-
Gosh Tonya, You have had more misfortunes that anyone I know. And all of them legitimate!! Such a bummer. I am getting achy from not exercising. That's my story and I'm sticking too it. We are having a beautiful night...lightning and thunder for the first part, a drizzle of snow, and now beautiful lights in the clouds. What a spectacular show. I'm in watching Dancing with the Stars. I need a routine like that...to get in shape. Hope that you heal fast and get back with it.

Hi all, I was laying in bed last night thinking about all my lapband friends and thinking I'm being so remiss in getting on here! I've made a committment to check in and write on a regular basis. I need it and it certainly helps to have more people staying in touch. So, that being said, hope that you are all doing well. I'm getting closer to getting on my exercise routine as my bathroom is almost finished. I was out of town last weekend so I didn't get that particular project done. DH worked a bit, but some things take four hands. I'm eating okay, but the scale is not moving. I can't break my late night dinner pattern. I work late several nights per week and then by the time I drive home it is around 8 so that is when dinner occurs. It is also just a bad habit. I do think that it is a problem in my weight loss.... Oh, forgot to mention, I also go to be between 9-10 most nights. I'm an early riser, tho!! Anyhow, that is eat, then sleep. I usually don't have a large meal but it isn't a good thing, I know. I'm considering getting another small fill. I just don't feel that I've hit the sweet spot, but I do have periodic PB's. So, I hem and haw about the fill. I guess I have this thought process that says when the fill is right, the weight just comes off, maybe more gradually, but the bottom line is that is just happens. Am I delusional? Hope to hear from you all.

I had a great weekend, but did nothing but work on the darned bathroom we are remodeling...but we are just about done. It looks so nice. We (I) tiled and bought new toilet and vanity, mirror and lights...looks small with all that stuff in it. Anway, I'm pleased with the progress. I got up early to start walking this morning and when I stepped outside it was snowing and raining...so I went back inside and read my book...HA. No ellipitical for me!! I'm bad!! Weight is sticking to a consistent pound or two range, neither up or down. My waist is shrinking and hopefully the butt as well (probably tightening up, which is just fine as well) from all the bending and what not of remodeling!! I say we count that as exercise. I made a killer recipe of Chicken al la Romana, not too high in cals, low in fat. We have a guy, "the Kitchen Guy" who is at www.kfbb.com (our local TV station) who does recipes on Wednesdays...I've gotten a couple of pretty good ones that fit the criteria for our type of eating. He has an archive of recipes, if anyone is looking for some new ideas. Tonya, so sorry to hear about your foot...jeez, you have the luck, but then, if we don't get off the couch, we don't see any action, right? Take care. Shawn

Hi Folks, Gee, hump day...how are we all doing? I'm feeling better and eating properly. Exercise to start soon!! I'm in awe of you who are committed to your workouts. You should be proud of yourselves!!

I had a rough week...got really sick on Friday and barely left the bed. Felt like someone had beat me. Saturday was somewhat better and I was up functioning, still not feeling well..then DH came down with it hard (sort of a flu/cold feel like crap virus...know what I mean?). He is still very under the weather. So I didn't make much time walking but am feeling better and better. I have never been so sick as I have been this season. I've had colds twice and this flu thing twice now...just out of the blue. Wish the sick-o's would stay out of my office...HA. I did slack off on my Vitamins, which I usually good at taking...but I'm back on track. Tonya...good on you for all your hard work. I'm sure it is pretty discouraging to have to work so hard this time. I sort of feel the same way...why can't the last bit come off like the first bit. Life isn't fair, huh? Take care all!

Angyl, I guess that kind of goes back to what Baby got Back was saying about wanting us to not use our real names. Sad but apparently necessarly with some folks. Anyway, sorry this has happened. I wondered, however, if there is a code of ethics, such as in my field, where you can't just drop a client (patient) without having some sort of services in place, via a referral and a set appointment, committment to see, etc. Maybe not an issue where you live, but in my area, there is one or two fill dr.'s (and only recently two) so if the one refused for whatever reason, a person would really be in a fix. Perhaps it is for the best however....change is good right?

No walking for me this morning...tired (excuses of course) and a bit sore. I get shinsplints when I first start and it takes a while for those to not hurt, but they do go away. I'll keep after it. You guys and your planting tomatoes!! I have at least a month to go before that. Hrumph!! There is still snow drifts (although they are fast melting) in the barrow ditches. On the positive side, I'm not quite ready to be outside working on the yard, as I still have about another week of remodeling inside to complete!! But the lawn is greening up. I used to fake bake in my youth...and in my teens and early twenties...bakes myself in babyoil till I sizzled!! Now I use sunscreen and tanning lotions. I do get tanned just by being outside quite a bit, but I try to be cautious. We do look thinner with a tan, tho, don't you think? :smile2: Protein, I need to get after that as well.

HI all, Up early and hit the road. I did about 3.5 miles in a walk then a few outside chores. Weather has cleared and it was very pleasant. I felt great. Took my prize dog with me so she is happy as well.

I would ask for a copy of that document and then review it. Did the Dr. make a diagnosis? Are you bi-polar and are you delusional? Are you stable? Do you have a regular therapist that you see for these things? Maybe your regular therapist, if you have one, will followup with some responses to your surgeon. I have seen many diagnositic reports that do not look similar in anyway. One person will diagnose one thing (or several) and another other things. Or nothing at all. I would want to see the basis of the diagnosis, what were the symptoms to base the diagnosis on and go from there. If there is a conflict in diagnosis, challenge it.

Lovely central Montana!! Is it snowing still. There is a system in the area...the news lady just said. But the good news...we are 110% above normal precipitation so maybe the drought will be abated!! Not much new here...I'm just plugging along and not really paying a whole lot of attention to diet and exercise..not eating badly tho. Just not focused. I think I'm just in a numb spot from having to work so hard and all that, so my brain only has room for recovery. But that will pass. I'm going to get back into it and get really serious. I have to.

Hi gang, I'm in and out. Have been traveling and super busy but tonights my night to surf the net and get back with you. Not to much going on ...we were the cold in the nation yesterday and got 10 inches of snow on Sunday,....need I say more? NO walking at the moment. Grrrr. I've done fairly well with eating but didn't get to my scale this week and I was out of the house in the dark the last two days and didn't put the scale in another room to see the dial without waking the DH. Is spring coming?

Hi all, Just a quick check in. Not too much change here...same darned five pounds up down up down!! Not really doing what I should but I do think about it!! I had some scrambled eggs last night..sort of a breakfast burrito (without the tortilla) and for some reason it didn't set well and it came up with a vengence. Whew... Not a PB for sure. I'm GOING to start exercising, and that is just that. I think that will get me going in all directions. I'm on the road for the next four days and putting on a seminar early Monday morning, so after that, I can't think of any other excuses. Here is a HUGE (sorry about this) picture of my filly that was born last thursday night. I'm thinking of calling her Fancy.

This has nothing to do with weightloss, but my mare, Gracie, just foaled a beautiful filly. AND for once, I got to see if beginning to end. I just put her in the barn this morning because I thought she looked like she was getting close. When I got home from work, I checked on her and she was a little sweatie so I let her out in the corral for a while. I came back later and decided to make the bed in the camper and sleep there (next to the stall in the barn) and while I was doing my thing, she laid down and went into labor....about 9:20pm. This is my bestest horse and I'm SOOO excited to have caught her delivery!! I"m going to go out in a while (after I've warmed up a bit more) and see if she figured out where the spicuts are. We must have our first drink of colostrum, right? :scared2:)))

I just read the previous posts...I too am a fair weather poster. Altho I have been busy, that isn't the best excuse, because I do get on the computer several times daily. I have one at work and at home. So, obviously I don't want to be serious about my weight loss. Up and down since Oct/Nov. I do good with my first meal of the day...then at lunch rather than really paying attention, I will buy a taco salad or something. I know that isn't bad, but the portion is. I can put it away most of the time. Then, my eating dinner late at night. I generally get home from work at around 8 and sit down after that. I should do a Protein drink or something light. I eat a meal. Not always a bad meal, just once in a while....but I think it all counts. And then I'll some days have wine. By it's self, not a bad routine, but consistently I think is shooting me down. Habits...hard to break. And of course, no walking or consistent exercise. I'm not so worried about that, because I will get to doing it. I'm just waiting out the weather and the light (mornings at 6 is still dark) I am thinking about getting another fill. I don't know....I sort of want to be so restricted I just can't over eat at all...and put up with some PB's. At least until I get some movement on the scale. Is that bad thinking? I have periodically used the slimquic, but it appears to have lost its effectiveness. The first go round was good...but I haven't really noticed anything this time. Anyway, thanks for listening. I'll get after it one of these days. I still have lost 53 pounds...nothing wrong with that.
-
Hi my friends, I've been awol for a bit...busy with stuff...and doing okay. My weight is up and down still...nothing new there and I've not been exercising. Lots of excuses of course, but really, I need to get my head in the journey again. I've missed being here but really have been so busy that it hasn't been my stopping off place...but after I catch up with reading I'll try to get back on board!
-
Unintended benefit of the flu....I dropped a few pounds. Will probably readjust when fluid get back up there!! But, the good news...I feel more motivated to watch my portions. I packed some lunch so I'll not be shopping at the cafe downstairs at my office. You all sound like you're doing well...I hope that you keep up the momentum. I does help me to hear of your drive!!
