December 2010 Bandsters out there?

who here has been banded for at least 2 years and has had NO complications?
karewpah replied to Lapbandster's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Hi Lapbandster...I did have a slip and needed surgery to revise it, but it was due to extreme vomiting and not the band at all. I would suggest to anyone to either a) carry prescription strength anti nausea drugs (my PCP makes sure I have a recent prescription at all times because I travel and get to the Dr when you start vomiting. For me, I was travelling in a foreign country when it started and slipped all in 1 day of extreme vomiting. Other than that...the band has been GREAT! -
December 2010 Bandsters out there?
karewpah replied to GardenGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was actually looking for this thread a while ago and couldn't find. You must remember that even though you can eat more, you need to stop @ 1 cup and let the band do the work. If you can still eat 1 cup of food and still be satisfied for 4 hours or so, then the band is working as it should. It doesn't restrict your intake, just makes you feel satisfied on less for longer. What size band and how much fill do you have? Have you maintained or lost over the last year? -
choosing chicken or beef broths!

For those who make their own broth...how do you make it...I've never been good at making tastes broths -
Sigh...that was a tongue in cheek comment about suck...I read it as though it started with an f... A sense of humour goes a long way...
-
I don't think she used the word suck . None the less...I actually think Cheryl was simply trying to get a better understanding of your full situation. Your post was long, but didn't include everything. I think it's an unrealistic expectation to post and not receive any response on it. I also think we could be thankful that people actually took the time to read it and care enough to seek to better understand.

I dared to try some Chinese food tonight. Ginger beef, chicken teriyaki, chop suey. It fit into my calorie allowance, but still a bit of indulgence...haven't had it for a long time. Nothing I did made the food go down. I chew chew chewed and took minuscule bites but ... STUCK. I followed the rules and still...I got stuck. So, I'm wondering if maybe there is msg in there (isn't there in most take out Chinese food?). And if that may have caused some swelling or "something" with the band? Any thoughts?
-
Good idea Missy.

Thanks..I'm just over 2 years out and haven't had a fill in a year...I have the size thing down. MSG is just an additive, the question was more if people found they were sensitive to it with the band. Some are allergic to it...previously I never noticed one way or another, but I haven't had Chinese food since I was banded over 2 years ago and know that my bites were in the range that are "right sized" for me and my band. I thought it would be an enjoyable treat...turned into misery

THE THIRD TIME IS NO CHARM!!
karewpah replied to charmingchuck's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Chuck...you may claim to be charming but your story doesn't pass the sniff test. 2 lapbands and a gastric bypass and you've lost 20lbs. Not sure why you would feel restriction with gastric bypass, but that could be my ignorance talking. For you to sign up today and call a valued member and contributor "mean"...well, let's just say your ignorance is greater than mine. We want lifestyle changes, not recommendations for more useless drugs... Wishing you find the exit from this forum and of course good health -
I travel all the time for work and business dinners are a staple. I eat all cuisines...none are off limits. In terms of how much I can eat....my band doesn't restrict quantity...and I haven't done a test to see how much I CAN eat. I stick as close as I can to 1 cup then I'm done. I typically order a soup and another small Protein based appetizer. I eat what I need, then enjoy the company and talk business. Indian...I tend to stay away from rice and naan...personal choice. Chinese food...just the rice I avoid.

Truly an inspiration Missy. Well done...keep up the good work. I love reading your posts...those of encouragement to others and the ones where you share with us what is working for you. You are a huge resource on this site (pardon the pun) -
First Period after surgery-awful
karewpah replied to Peaceful1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery starts my cycle 2 weeks early...awful. My cycle was heavier after surgery....don't know why or if that is normal. My PCP put me on the pill for a bit to get it under control. -
Self pay and 4 weeks from consultation to surgery...although I could have had the surgery earlier...2 weeks instead of 4...I didn't want to rush right in

The acid reflux is concerning and at night too. I would recommend you go back and have him look at the band under Floro or whatever he uses. I wonder if he left any saline in there. It would seem you are very swollen, causing the problems you're having or that the band was not replaced in the proper spot...or maybe you have a hernia. Definitely go back to him as soon as possible. I suffered a slip 5 months after my initial surgery due to violent vomiting due to illness (not band related). Recovery from that surgery was far easier than the original one and my surgeon allowed for food progression faster than the original band placement post op.
-
Hi there...when were you banded? Did you suffer a slip that was surgically corrected? Have you called your surgeons office?
-
Wow...can you even swallow water? I would think that is too much, yes, although every person is different...

How long have you had the band?

Banded since Dec 21st and never regretted a day -
I love making homemade hot cocoa....skim milk, Splenda and real cocoa...mmmmm. I will use lactose free skim milk to lower the sugars. Just some suggestions for being cold and enjoying the hot cocoa...

Mumm...definitely try upping your water. I drink about 3 litres a day of water and other no calorie no caffeine beverages. When I do that, the scale moves...if not, it doesn't.
