Can you wear underwear during surgery?
HungryMel replied to dkny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm being banding on this Monday (feb 7th) - they told me i have to be naked..and surprise surprise..today i was blessed with getting me 'friend". Yeah, just what i need. the nurse told me they put a pad on you and thats it. Hey, this is nothing they haven't seen before...plus you are going to be so high on all the drugs, you wont even care and might think its funny. I am scared...2 days left of this fat life...and my new life begins on monday. wish me luck! -

How long did it take you to recover after lapband surgery and back to work
HungryMel replied to ade74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'm on the pre-op diet this week. today is my last day of full liquids, tomorrow is all Clear Liquids and monday is the BIG DAY! i have to say the pre-op diet is NOT EASY, but not crazy either. Here is some tricks that i found worked for me this week. 1) Jello mixed with pudding is AMAZING! 2) you MUST have something every few hrs, you really wont feel hungry. 3) freeze yogurt, its amazing! 4) stay away from everyone...i am not hanging out with friends this week cause they eat. 5) You MUST drink water! LOTS AND LOTS of water!!! TRUST ME --- in so many ways the Water is sooo important. the muscle milk light is OK..i am sticking to it, everyone said its the best tasting one...drink 2-3 of them a day. -
I'm going with the Sleeve!!
HungryMel replied to StacyS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i understand the lap band procedure completely...i am getting banded on monday so there is no turning back for me...however, some posts on this site has hurt not helped me. people say things to freak me out. i hear the negative comments all the time from people in my life (i.e "my friend only lost 30lbs" or "have you ever tried to excerise") and hearing more negative stuff on a site that you are looking for support is very annoying. -
Single Incision with Dr. Geiss in Long Island
HungryMel replied to antonelladg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also a Geiss patient - My surgery is this coming monday. Dr Geiss mentioned that he could possibly do the single insecion on me as well. I went to the seminar last week and the nurses said you wont know if you will have the single insecion until day of surgery. Dr G said it is less pain and quicker recovery. why are you asking about the scars? its 1-6 cuts. what are you worried about? If you have a long torso or your body is not right for the single incesion, then Dr G cant do it. and he only does it on women. no men can get SILS -

and this is why my friends are telling me to stay off this site. my band surgery in 6 days and now after reading this - it gets me thinking. -
sooo....this long pre-op process of almost over...surgery date Feb.7th! i'm so ready for the new journey to begin. I can't stop eating this week, but I start Pre-op liquid diet this Monday. I am scared to death of surgery day. Stupid me, watched the actual lap band surgery on the internet and now i'm freaking out. I have a lot of emotions...i'm scared about the surgery, I'm anxious all the time, i can't picture myself thin again, I am afraid I will miss eating food, I didn't tell people I was having surgery and I am so sick of the negative comments - i dont want people to ask how i am loosing weight. BUT I AM SOOOOO EXCITED and READY for this. LOOKING FOR SUPPORT COMMENTS.

I can't believe it's almost here
HungryMel replied to HungryMel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI Ally, Thank you for be-friending me on this site. i am still kind of new to this site, so bare with me. i would like to stay in touch with you. thanks! Melanie -
Ohh i have something to say about this...People are soooooo judgemental and negitive...i am sick and tired of talking about to the people who give me dirty looks or say stupid ignorant comments like "have you ever tried eating healthy and working out?". REALLY? i feel like slaping people like that. I decided to only tell those people that need to know. its no ones business and this surgery is no where near "EASY WAY OUT". Keep it to yourself and this is what being on this site is for...to vent and talk about it with other people who understand. If one more 125lb friend of mine says one more comment like "try weight watchers" or "join the gym with me". I will flip. thank you..VENT OVER...surgery date feb7th!

HungryMel replied to justplaintired's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I GET BANDED on FEB. 7TH! I cant believe how fast I got a surgery date! Super excited!!!!!!!!!!!! I quite smoking, and bought the e-cig. it is working out pretty well so far. I start pre-op diet on monday! -
I'm Pre-Op. Finishing up my last PCP apt next week then will be waiting for approval. So...I started smoking again! I am having a hard time quitting. A REALLY HARD TIME! For those of you that were smokers, and had a hard time quitting, did you tell your Dr. before surgery? DId you lie and say you quit? I dont want to lie, i want to be honest...but i was the lapband more then anything in my life. I am still working on quitting for good... Did they test your blood in the hospital on the day of surgery? and for those of you that did quit before surgery, how long were you smoke-free before the surgery? my surgeon wanted me to quit 4 months before the surgery date and I started the other day again! HELP!

How long of a wait for surgery date?
HungryMel posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be submitting my paperwork to the insurance company next week...then wait for approval (crossing fingers). How long after insurance approval are the surgery dates? ( i am aware they might be all different - depending on your surgeon, etc. but i am curious what everyone says) -
If I were you i'd tell them i was an inch to and inch and a half shorter then you really are (NO ONE MEASURED MY HEIGHT). Talk to your surgeon's office and see what can be done. you maybe have to gain a few lbs. I am sure you can resubmit / appeal this decision...i know that some insurance company's will over 30bmi with co-morib. and 35 + with no co-morib. I am sure it depends on your ins company but you can fight this and see what happens...

How long of a wait for surgery date?
HungryMel replied to HungryMel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Next wednesday is my last PCP, everything else is completed and i already submitted everything to my surgeons office. I also wrote an entire page of my diet history for the last 10 years. lol I HOPE THIS GOES BY FAST! I think about the surgery all day every day and i started planning my life around the NEW SKINNY ME. ha ha -
CAN SOMEONE ANSWER ME??? PLEASEEEEEEE? (FREAKING OUT)
-
I just spoke to a friend of mine who had lapband and she told me that they do test your blood for smoking. they do it at the hospital and may cancel the surgery because of it. i am freaking out because i am a smoker and i am having a hard time quitting.

How long does it "usually" take people to get approved?
HungryMel replied to kourtany93's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After you submit all of your paperwork...it takes from 24 hours up to 8 weeks for approval. there is definitely no answer. But let me tell you i am at the end of this road...about to complete my last pcp visit next week...and let me just say the past 6 months FLEW by. the key is to make the apts and dont stop. start the apts right away - do 2-3 apts a month until you complete. IT FLYS BY!!!!! and make sure you are always calling your surg. to make sure they received the paperwork every time a dr. faxes to them. keep on top of your dr.s and insurance company. call your ins company and ask all the questions you need to upfront so there is no surprises in the end. -
No, I am not Pregnant, thank you. I'm just fat.
HungryMel replied to hautemama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SCREW ALL THE RUDE PEOPLE OUT THERE. You are still beautiful and after the surgery you will feel even more beautiful. Its sucks to be fat. it really does. i am uncomfortable in my own body these days. Just always remember the fat girl you are now, cause when you skinny butt is fitting into a size 10 jeans - and you are feeling fabulous, dont loose the person you are today. -
I also lied and said I quit smoking. i did not quit at all. I'm at the end of the road with doctor apts and almost ready to submit for approval. I also dont know what to do about quitting. however, i read a post above about the electronic cig. i have one and its amazing...thank you for reminding me to use it. I was told that smoking also causes blood clots as well as having trouble breathing after the surgery.

I'm Not Telling Anyone I'm Being Banded.....
HungryMel replied to laurenlee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll be honest, at first - i told NO ONE (only my live in BF and my mom). then i slowly started only telling close friends. now that i am more then half way done with the LONG process, i am telling a few more close friends. I decided NOT to tell anyone at work. I feel that people judge you like this is an "easy way out". Both those are the people that really have no idea about being heavy and no clue about what LAPBAND really consists of. I dont know what i am going to tell my job - what the reason for my week off from work, but honestly i am starting to care less about what people think. I am also finding more people are supportive then judgmental, however I have come across those people that are judging me - and it's THOSE people that are a size 2, eat like a cow and never gain a pound. That is when i want to punch them in the face. lol. If you decide to tell a few people that are close to you, choose the ones that love you no matter what and the ones you can trust. Whatever if you decide, to tell a few people or not tell anyone, it is all up to you and neither way is wrong. -
When do you set the surgery date?

When do you set the surgery date?
HungryMel replied to mpope's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon requires me to complete all the pre-op apts and approval from ins co. first. as soon as i get approved a date is set. But i also heard some ppl get their date before approval.
