Anyone in Melbourne about the get banded?
Penellij replied to Tory101's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone, Well it is now 11 days post surgery. I have a little infection at the site of the port, but otherwise I am all good. i was so ready for it that the Dr's couldn't believe how clam I was. I only had 2 bouts of nausea last Sun and Mon. I was not ill but dry reached (sorry for being crude). Since then I have noticed my hunger is creeping back more and more everyday. I wasn't too sure it was meant to happen so soon. I an scared that the nausea and dry reaching shifted the band (my fear). I am just hanging for the fill day (not till the 23rd Dec) to stop this hunger. I hate it. I have dropped nearly 8 kgs with 2 week pre op diet as well as the nearly 2 weeks since op and I love the feeling of me shrinking that I don't want to go back. I am doing the mainly liquids but the dietitian said before I was discharged that I could start to have scrambled eggs etc. I have had a few egg whites and things that will melt in my mouth before it hits the stomach and was surprised at how easy it was and like Ish it scares me. Bring on fill day I say. However, one thing I have to say NO REGRETS. Cheers -
The shoulder pain the referred pain from the gas the use to blow up the abdomen during surgery. This happens during laparoscopy procedures (I've had two). Take panadol every four hours (religiously in the first few days) and it will settle quite quickly. They are not sure why this happens. It is strange. Anyway, I am due for my banding on 24/11. I am so glad you have had minimal pain and not feeling hungry already. I had heard that you just do not become interested in food much anymore, which will be a blessing. Good luck. Penellij

Hi there, My GP sent my referral in at the Alfred 3 years ago (just after my last son was born). I am now having my surgery on 24th Nov. I can't argue with the process. While I have a high BMI I had no co-morbidity which means I was placed in a low category (3 in total). It felt like I kept getting put on a waiting list after waiting list, and then surprise, I get my pre-admission appointment. I attended thinking it would be another 3-6 months, to my pleasant surprise, I had only 2 weeks til my surgery. So quick smart on the Optifast (day 3), and counting down to the best day of the rest of my life. My suggestion, don't get put off by the potential waiting list. Time is dictated by Government Funding, but at the same time I am blessed by this generosity as well as there would be no way I could afford such a procedure privately. Good luck Penellij

Hi I am a newbie here from South east Melbourne. Day 3 of pre-op optifast. Surgery date 24/11/10. Nervous, scared excited, dreaming. I have waited 3 years from date of my referral from my GP to have it on medicare. Can't complain. My BMI is 53.3. For all of my teenage and adult life I have been overweight, so it is going to be a weirdly wonderful. I have been reading some posts and it has been most Helpful.
