I'm on my way!

Pre-Op

I completed 6 months of physician-supervised weight loss to satisfy my insurance requirements. Insurance approval came down to the wire when my psychologist had emergency surgery for kidney stones. Thanks to the great staff at Central Carolina Surgery in Greensboro, NC (especially Carol), my approval came through! I lost about 17 pounds on the pre-op diet - 3 protein shakes per day, lean frozen meal or salad/protein/veggies for lunch, salad/protein/veggies for dinner.

Surgery

My surgery was October 4, 2011 in Greensboro at Wesley Long Memorial Hospital. Surgery went well, and I slept most of the remainder of the day. Since I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine, they kept me overnight as a precaution. I will say the nursing staff did not get me out of bed as much as they probably should have. The one time they did I walked very slowly. I was hurting.

Post-Op

I stayed with my parents immediately after surgery and had thought I would be able to go home and back to work after one week. Ha ha ha! I was still on a liquid diet and not moving around very well. I thought "What have I done?" After two weeks with Mom and Dad, went home and tried to go back to work. Lasted two days and spent the next two days at home. It was a big adjustment just to get ready and go to work. Thankfully, things changed as soon as I could eat solid foods (even mushies) at three weeks post-op. I started to feel much better and have a lot more energy - odd since I was still recovering from surgery. As of December I have lost 47 pounds, and I feel really good! I have had to buy smaller clothes - my pants are falling off me! It's been much faster than I anticipated, and I am pleased with the results.

I am very happy I decided to have the surgery!
