Here I am, banded 8 days ago and finally starting to feel human again! How lovely to find a forum for British bandsters! The system is so different here compared to the US - we usually have to pay for ours!! Struggling a bit with the liquid diet - easy with sweet things (yoghurts etc) but having trouble finding anything filling in the Soup dept! Only another 6 days till I can have mush. WOOOOO!! Had mine done by Mr Sigurdsson (?spelling) at Dolan Park hosp, through Hospital Group. It IS a bit like a production line, but no hassle at all - everybody very kind and professional, although the anaesthetist seemed to be wearing his grumpy pants. What I'd like to know is if I'm the only one who's still uncomfortable after 8 days? When I've looked at the forums (mainly american) it seems as though everybody's up and running about after 3 days, with no pain whatsoever. I've been suffering with left abdo and shoulder pain since the op. It HAS got better by the day, but am I the only wimp around? And is anyone else aware of the port? I can feel it when I'm sitting down - tender. Any old hardened bandsters out there able to offer any advice? THANKS, Judy

Hi. All very new to me. BMI of just under 31 and due to have surgery on the 5th December with the Hospital Group. I also have COPD and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and has the surgery helped? Has everybody told their GP? Of course, here in the UK Lapband surgery is almost always self-funded and therefore does not need GP approval. I haven't told my GP yet. Kinda dreading it....

Hi There Dune! I'm all banded and done now! Had it done 5th December at Dolan Park Hosp. I also had a hiatus hernia (apparently) which is, I'm told, not an uncommon finding at the time of surgery. I have to be honest and say that I have had a bit of pain and general discomfort, but it's getting better by the day. I'm planning to go back to work next Wednesday. The staff at Dolan Park were really nice - the nursing staff really are very caring and professional. Although the whole experience feels a little like a production line - there were 9 other people being done on the same day - I felt completely safe and comfortable. As you know, my BMI - like yours - was only 30.5. And I felt a bit of a fraud having this done. But I'm glad I have and look forward to reaping the benefits in the not too distant future. I wish you well with your banding, and if you ever want to talk about it, just email me. xx

december 2010 post op

I was banded on December 5th and do not intend to go back to work for at least another 5 days. Some of you people seem to have done so well in such a short space of time. It's encouraging for me however, to hear that some people have felt the same way as me. Although things are slowly improving, I still have left shoulder pain, pain in the middle of my chest when I swallow and general abdominal tenderness. It's getting better by the day though. The wind (sorry, English - gas) pain is the worst. Hope to feel much better in a week's time though. I'll let you all know. And good luck to everybody! x -

December 5th!!! WOO HOO!! -
Hi Dune. COPD is a chronic bronchitis type thing. I've pretty much kept it a secret too. If my workmates found out, I'd be nagged -"you don't need it, yadeya....". They'll find out in the fullness of time. My mum and my husband are very supportive and know how much my weight bothers me. They both feel that if it's what I want, then it's nothing to do with anyone else. Totally had enough of dieting - up down up down. I know lots of people see it as cheating but I'm not bothered. Do you have a low BMI too?

Is there anybody out there had a lapband fitted with a BMI under 35? Mine is just over 30 and I feel a bit of a fraud when everybody out there seems to be struggling with bigger weight loss issues. I DO have health problems exacerbated by weight gain and my mind is made up and surgery booked for next month. Anybody else out there in a similar position?
