Hey! I found I had lupus when I had to see my dermatologist's nurse bc he was too busy and she thought the rash on my face wasn't just a rash but checked for lupus. I was lucky, though cause my mom has lupus and got to learn a lot from her. I agree sleep should be your best friend and stay out of the sun, but I have a lot of the skin issues. I also use that emerg-c for immune support 2x a day during a flare up. They make 5 calorie ones. My dr says any purple or orange veggies are good. Also I know this sounds weird but I have found I have less flare ups if I workout more.

How well do you tolerate soda after banding?
sam3841 replied to PraisingHim's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with elcee that this topic has been argued to the ground. I drink diet soda and have had no problem with it. It actually helps when I feel a little tight buy everyone is different. But listen to your dr, if they said no, you are doing it at your own risk. My dr has no problem with it but they are all different. -
I think most of the people here are right, you need an unfill. Having been where you were, my band was too tight. Took me a while to come to terms with it cause I was losing some serious weight. For example I would drink coffee in the morning to losen up my band. Then later I would tempt a protein shake. Maybe a greek yogurt for lunch then I would try to eat a little dinner. But I would eat slider foods mostly, cause they went down without the pain of getting stuck or throwing up, when I realized I was way under my calorie count. So I feel where you are coming from, if I ate the foods I was suppose to eat, including the soft proteins ( I am fish lover) I would get stuck or vomit. I had an unfill then another. I gained some weight but I am adjusting. Go for an unfill and work on eating right. Talk to your doctor. I have realized losing the weight fast isn't worth losing the weight the healthy way. I really hope you listen to the good, helpful advice and include the comments that don't seem so nice. They want to help you and you should get as much information as you can. I wish some would realize we aren't doctors and before recommending advice on a diet you should recommend they see a medical professional whose training and job prepared them to deal with these situations. Remember you are the only one who decides where this journey goes.

Some people enjoy going out, having a few drinks and feeling normal. This was one of the first questions I asked my Dr. He said hey I wouldnt want to live life either without a few beers, but that is his personality. Just be mindfull that most drinks have some form of carbonation and loads of calories. If I know I am going to have a few drinks I workout longer and account for it. Also I have noticed I can't do shots anymore, I feel like I am stuck and might vomit. I also have become such a lightweight so I am more careful. Its also easier for me to get dehydrated so I drink loads of water beforehand even if its just a glass of wine after dinner.

I am an elliptical frantic. I really wanted to run but its just too hard on my joints. But good running shoes are important. I usually start out at a 10 incline and a 6 resistance for 5 mins to warm up and see how it feels. Then push it up to 11 and 7 for 5. Then up to 8 resistance for 2 minutes then 9 res for 2 then I put it up as high as I can for the last minute. Then repeat for an hour. You really need to play around with the settings and see what is comfortable. Usually if it hurts some but you keep going your legs will adjust and it will get better. Start off making a small goal like going for 10 mins. Once there increase the intensity till you aim for 15

I was always always getting stuck on eggs and egg whites and couldn't figure it out. It's a band approved food. Then I talked to my Dr and she said oh no, what happens is it acts like rubber. She would not recommend eating eggs to some people.

Is Soda Bad Once In A While?
sam3841 replied to kittylove32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have talked to my Dr about this and I drink soda, maybe every other day and its always diet, regular soda taste weird to me. He said there really shouldn't be an issue if you pour he soda into a cup and let it sit for 15 mins, stirring if you want. Maybe I am weird but it actually cuts my carvings and hunger. But this is something you should talk to your Dr about it. Everyone uses different techniques and some do better with slips. This may not be a popular opinion but its really worked for me. Much better to drink flat diet soda then some chocolate, for me. -
The first time, I had only been banded a couple months and I talked to my drs nurse. She said that you have to violently vomit for an extended period to any real damage from the flu.
-
Yep a couple time. I have a shitty shitty immune system, someone can sneeze in my direction and I am sick. It's really not that different.

Inversion tables are pretty much a flat board that spins to were your feet are above your head causing decompression of the spine. They are useful in treating lower back pain. My chiropractor said though he doesn't think they are worth the money. Lay on the floor with your feet perched on a table or wall with your back flat and arms out to the side and it does the same thing and its free.

Has anyone had issues with runners knees? I am on week 3 of c25k, I've done it before. My knees just hurt when walking up and down(especially) stairs. I have really good running shoes but last week I didn't really pay attention to form and ran longer than suppose to. I gave my knees 3 day rest and I am going to try it again today. I am going to chiropractor soon. I also am going to do a flat incline and see if that works. Has anyone dealt with this;

Wow, I can really relate. I been banded two years almost and have lost 105 lbs about 15 lbs from goal. But when I look in the mirror I still see that 300lb person. I can't see the improvement and I always focus on the negative. I have dated several guys lately who tell me how beautiful or hot I am. My response? Well thank you but its going to get a lot better from here. I can't even take the compliment? What's wrong with me? Also I think that I point out my faults first hoping that if I point them out maybe no one else will. I was one of those people who thought that when I lose the weight all my problems will be solved. But that's just not true. Not only does this have to be a physical change it has to be a mental change. I have noticed that the closer I get to goal the more I seem to sabotage myself. I am working on that mental change but it eems harder than the physical after a life time of putting yourself down.

Well after I went to class and had the consultation the Dr said he could the surgery the week after. -
QUESTION: what do you do about the jiggle in the middle? I tried running tights, but they make my stomach hurt and I always wear a tight under shirt but I can't stand the feeling of my tummy jiggling. I prefer the eliptical but I do want to be able to run.

I was 21when I got the lapband. At first I only told my mom and grandma. Then I told some of my friends. They were all really supportive just worried about the surgery itself. I was worried that they would judge me, but they all just wanted me to be healthy and happy. Somethings I noticed was it was my fat friends who gave me the biggest problems but I think they were jealous in the end. I still haven't told my dad thought and I don't know how he hasn't figured it out especially since I am living with my parents again. Just remember you can't untell someone and if you don't want to tell someone abd they ask what you are doing to mode the weight say diet and exercise, its true!

I think life in prison should mean life in prison. I don't support the death penalty because I think it would be more if a punishment if that person had to spend the rest of their life thinking about what they did and should be reminded if it repeatedly. Prison systems used to gave to support themselves by labor, ie chain gangs and such, but that was ruled as inhumane.

Actually what shocked me the most was he killed two people, ate one and then tried to kill another and only got 21 years.

How To Tighten A Lap Band Without A Port Head?
sam3841 replied to model's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't want to stir the pot more but I agree that you should seek counselling. I am not saying this to be mean but you are risking your life to keep this lapband. You seem to have an issue with placing your bmi above your life. Which this is interesting point because a lot of people get the lap band to SAVE their life. I also have a hard time believing the whole story. No Dr, even a general surgeon would simply snip off the end and say oh this will work and if they did, I would sue. Right now you need to realize that your body needs time to heal, it is a high risk of infection even sepsis. -
Realistic Weight Goal (?)

I would too but that number comes from what drs report their patients lose. -
Realistic Weight Goal (?)
sam3841 replied to LadyMaggie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr told me most lap band patients lose about 50% of their excess weight. But I think everyone is different and you can lose more depending on how hard and long you work at it. I have lost 85% of my excess weight. Just recognize it takes time but if you stay focus I think you can hit any goal you set. -
I have learned that since these conversations are all via text it becomes extremely difficult to pick up on someone's tone of voice so its important to be very clear and remember that. I was mainly scared of waking up and finding out they could not put the lap band in cause my liver was too fatty to lift. I was told that's the main reason for the pre op diet to reduce the fat in your liver so its easier to move around. Even when I woke up after surgery I didn't feel anything different so the first thing I said to nurse was oh please tell me I have lap band now. She laughed and told me yes.

Septic means there is an infection in your entire body, usually in the blood. My dad went septic 3 years ago, it was horrible. In septic your organs begin to shut down and the kidneys are usually the first. Septic shock is extremely dangerous and extremely potent antibiotics must be used ( my dad's was a cocktail of 7 others) usually occurs when a tear in the GI system.
