A Tiny Thanksgiving Dilemma
sam3841 replied to legnarevocrednu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded last year the Tuesday before thanksgiving. This is what I did and only my mom and sister knew that I had been banded and there were another 20 or so people there. I told everyone that I had the flu and wasn't feeling well but I was feeling better than I had. I got some mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce and mashed the cranberry sauce up and pushed the mash potatoes around. My dad still does not know. I did cheat and had some stuffing on Friday, its my favorite I mixed some broth in with it. I hope this helps. -
Have you or someone you know attempted to eat solid food prematurely?
sam3841 replied to Drewsky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I simply stated that everyone's journey is different and I even stated that I healed quickly, not stating that he would too. No one is ever going to be perfect and it not realistic to tell someone they should be perfect. The process is about figuring out what will and will not work out for you. I am just stating a fact with the whole starvation mode and I was even being generous with the caloric intake its usually 1200. I look at lap band as getting back to eating healthy not taking it to the extreme other end. For people who seem so interested in research when confronted with facts they get defensive. -

Medically there is no difference, if you want to get techinical they die from a lack of essential amino acids and carbohydrates not starvation, demonstrating the limiting factor of all non- aquatic autotrophs . -

That is just not realistic, you will eventually cheat and who wants to live a life were you constantly deny, deny, deny yourself any sense on indulgence (and I am not talking about just food). The point of the band is moderation. And yes people do die of hunger over a million people every day, that was a stupid comment. Everyone's experience is different and that means figuring out what will work for you. If you are hungery, go eat something, chew chew chew and really enjoy it. The thing about the lap band that disgust me is seeing that some people eat on daily basis less than 1000 calories. That is considered starvation mode to your body and that is not healthy but seems to be generally promoted on this forum. -

Yeah, I have. I was banded two days before thanksgiving, well I started eating solid food Friday after thanksgiving, I am a sucker for ham. I usually do one day liquids then go to regular food for fills. But I am young so I heal faster. I offically lost 70 lbs as of today. -
Got a fill and I shouldn't have :(
sam3841 replied to betheboo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel. I was really tight but was losing like 10 lbs every month. I went in to see my dr cause I was in a lot of pain and she took about 2 ccs out. Now I can eat how much of anything I want, I ate a whole jimmy johns sandwich which I know I shouldn't be able to do and I have gained 3 lbs. I can't wait till my next fill in 3 weeks so I can have some restriction back. -
Is something wrong with my band?
sam3841 replied to Kimmi'sMommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded last year two days before thanksgiving. I am not recommending this, but on thanksgiving I ate some mashed potatoes and stuffing and was completely fine. When I go for fills, I sometimes do liquids for a day and sometimes I don't depending on how I am feeling. It's fine that you slipped everyone has. Everyone's experience is different depending on how old they are and their state of health. Guideline are just that a guide and normally being perfect is not something you Dr expects. Its completely normal to break the rules every once in awhile. -

HELP!!!!!!! WAY OVERWHELMED WITH INFO BUT NOT ENOUGH SPECIFICS TO BE VERY SCARY!!!!
sam3841 replied to tartertwo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would recommend not doing the hcg diet. Hcg is a hormone that is produced by the fetus to cause the uterus to direct more blood supply to the fetus. Want to have a similar hormone amount as a pregnant women? Go ahead, also the hcg diet has been linked to heart problems. Just follow this diet: protein shake for breakfast, protein shake for lunch, lean cuisine for dinner. If you get hunger drink another protein shake or veggie. Also sugar free popsicles. Your Dr should give you a pre surgery diet program. -
This may not be the best advice but, I drank like 2 weeks after surgery and had no problem. Just doesn't drink anything too carbonate and only do half of a shot at a time.

I really don't know what to do. This is kind of related to my lap band, but not fully. I have been in so much pain the last 3 days that I can barely do anything. It's all centered in my upper back and whenever I eat anything it gets worse. I had been popping advil or other over the counter pill every 3 hours and that does nothing. The thing is I really want to ask my Dr for real pain pill, I have had pain like this a lot, but I don't know how? Any advice? I just can't wait any longer, I have tried serious stretching but that only relieves the pain for a couple seconds.

Hey thanks for all your comments. I actually had a fill scheduled for this morning. As soon as the np put the scoop under she could tell there was a serious problem, she said I was extremely ( sorry for the detail) backed up and that it was pushing on my stomach and band putting pressure on my back. She took over a cc out and I felt so much better. I am just worried now that I won't have good restriction and will gain weight. Anyway she said to take maralax and a probiotoic every day for now on.

Will this nightmare ever end?
sam3841 replied to okiekatt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree you should get a new surgeon. My fills are so easy to get. I lay down, she pushes down and feels around on my stomach which kind of hurt but then its just one stick. It will get better, a good surgeon makes everything better. If you live near kc check out Dr. Malley best surgeon in kc, love them -
hey, I think your mind is playing games with you. You look like you have lost a lot of weight. I am the same way. I have lost 63 lbs and I really can not tell the difference, but everyone else is like you look so good. I do agree that you have lost inches not weight. I was a size 20(tight) when I started and now I am size 16. It took a while for things to click but since I hit my green zone I have been losing weight steadily. I think you might want to consider getting your protein in, in the mornings, that really helped me and it really help with my energy level. Also try to get at least 1000 calories a day, if you don't your body will go into starvation mode and even though skinny people are skinny because they don't eat as much eventually you will want to eat again and that's when you gain the weight right back cause your body wants to hold on to those calories stored as fat when you aren't eating again.

What was you BIGGEST post op full liquid diet slip up???
sam3841 replied to Ssauce74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cheated day two. It was thanksgiving. Honestly I have never follow that liquid thing and I have never had an issue with it. But I am real young so that probably has something to do with it. I was up and moving 30 mins after I woke up from surgery. -
I have the same insurance. I called them about a year ago and they said they don't cover any wls not even seeing a nutritionist. I hope you had better luck than I did.

I really love the sweet tea and the pomegranate flavor. I just wonder how they make it calorie free and taste so good. -
I really don't see the big deal with cancer joke. You guys are taking this too seriously and I know from personal experience the affects of cancer ( My grandpa lost his battle with cancer and my dad is still battling). I thought it wad funny and my dad and I exchange cancer jokes all the time. So don't be so serious, laughter is the best medicine.

If you actually knew anything about the founding fathers you would know that the majority of them did not believe in Christainty. ( Thomas Jefferson who wrote the majority of the constitution was an atheist). The best religion is one that is never spoken about. We in modern society and thank what thing you want to. In countries were divorce is illegal spousal abuse is as high as 90% ( predominately in the middle east. I really hate people like you who can't comprehend the idea of civil rights ( that the government's duty is to protect the rights of all its people not just the ones who cling to old superstition) It's my body and my life. I have right to do with it what I please and you should mind your own business. Oh and a fetus is not alive, it hits no definitions of life used in science. It is a parasite by definition. So next time you want to speak realize there are other opinions than your narrow minded stance and like your mama should have told you if you have something nice ( or intelligent ) to say don't say anything at all.

Any Kansas City bandsters???????
sam3841 replied to ladykcusa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi isit5yet! I was banded at NewHope at the end of November. They were so amazing. You have your own nurse, who literally comes in the room every time you move. I got there at 8:30 and left at 2:30. It was very smooth and I don't regret anything. I am down 30lbs! They are really great at supporting you and I call them all the time whenever I have question. Your surgery will be fine and they will take very good care of you! Good luck sam -
I would definitely do it again! I was so scared at first. I did the whole diet thing before and I was always so hunger. I have been banded for about two months, but I have not really worked on the diet part till recently, just hit the 25lb loss. What is so good about the lapband is when I do diet, at the end of the night I don't feel like I am starved. I can't wait for my next fill! But I think you seriously need to think about what you are going do and be sure it is for you. Learn as much as you can and if you have a question make sure to ask your dr or one of his/her nurses, that's what you paid for. Love Sam

Lean Cusine and other frozen Pre made foods
sam3841 replied to Steph951's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a college student and I don't really cook at all. Every dinner I eat is a Lean Cuisine. They have 'spa' options which to me seem like less carbs and more veggies. Also Wal-Mart just started making frozen dinners which are comparable to Lean Cuisines and almost a dollar cheaper. I think they taste really good, but it is always better when I go home and can have some real food. Sam -
If you ever want to try a beer or any carbonated beverage, you should pour it into a separate glass and let it sit for 5 mins. I shake my beer up little by little ( not crazy cause it fizzes of course). This will get rid of most of the carbonation. It has worked for me! Never had an issue with it.
