Friend Beening Very Negative
sam3841 replied to down in the dumps's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know how you feel, its defininty weird going from the attention you don't get when you a big girl I being one of the sexy/pretty girls in the group. I would also say to her, hey let's go workout together so we can get our sexy on. Or something funny like that, while supporting her if she wants to get healthy as well. And let her know that you need a positive environment cause its still a difficult journey and it isn't about looking skinny but being healthy. -
I was banded over a year ago and the same thing happened to me I lost 16 lbs in a week. It as mainly water weight. The weight lost will eventually level off. Losing 1 to 2 lbs is the healthiest and the lapband doesn't produce those dramatic weightlosses as gastric bypass. The further you get in your weightloss journey the more your weightloss will be determined by working out and building muscle mass. Remember a lb of fat weighs as much as a lb of muscle the difference is a lb of muscle is denser. The more muscle you have the more calories you will naturally burn. Sorry about rambling about muscle, I am really getting into weightlifting.

The Ten Commandments Of The Lap Band....
sam3841 replied to Knaroz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's really weird cause I weighted 294 and never had any other surgery and got a 14 cc band. I never did ask my Dr why he chose that size. Maybe I should. I have 6.5 cc in my and the restriction is okay but not great. -
This is more of a single girls guide to. How and when do you breach the subject with a guy(s) you are dating about the surgery? It's kind of hard to hide when clothes come of and scars can be seen. I want him to see me as the sexy girl I am now, not the unhappy person I used to be without turning him off.

I should be fair and say that I have a skin condition were my skin is really sensitive and if it is touch my anything it reacts and usually scars, so they are worse than normal.
-
I understand how guys might be otherwise distracted. I guess the scars just seem more prevalent on me because of my pale sensitive skin. And this might sound really wrong but I am not really looking for "the one" after all I am 22 and now healthy there are many more options. I really haven't had a guy notice how little I eat cause its usually for dinner. I normally make it a point to stress that being healthy is main thing for me.

I had my surgery two days before thanksgiving over a year ago and it was torture. I think it mainly due to the fact that so many of us have an emotional relationship with food. Its been a friend and a comfort. Your family really should be more considerate, but you were the one who decided to have the surgery. Maybe your new healthy lifestyle will rub off on them. Until then I would try to distance yourself from the food at least until you have good restriction then it won't be so hard. Good Luck!

I have been banded for over a year and to be honest it isn't that horrible of a thing, mainly because you know you did and it should be over soon. The worst stuck I ever was, was when I was on a train in Chicago and I was alimony and there was nothing I could do but try to keep it down. Mine usually passes in 20 minutes but then I try to stick to liquids the rest of the day.

I think my favorite nsv was seeing my ex at a party and then all his friends who used to say how fat I was, come up and tell me how good I looked. I just smiled, thanked them and told them loud enough so he could hear too that it was only going to get better.

Only 2 Weeks Of Restriction?
sam3841 replied to legnarevocrednu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The restriction you felt was probably due to swelling at the lapand localtion due to the fill. This is going to sound very encouraging, but you need to wait till you another fill or two and then you feel restriction. You don't get proper lasting restriction till you are in the green zone. That's when you will start to lose the most weight. Good luck -
Anyone Have An Explanation???
sam3841 replied to dar36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same thing happened to me around Xmas. It was horrible, my Dr said until I can come in for unfold, so drink hot liquids teas and soup. That most likely I had eaten something that swelled the tissue around my band. I good you feel better. -
Help. What Am I Doing Wrong?
sam3841 replied to BeautyLarue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This might be it. I had the same thing happen and then I upped my calories. I strut to get at least 1200 calories. 1200 calories is the basal level for most females, meaning it it the amount of calories need to maintain basic operations in the body. Anything below this sends the body into starvation mode, where it will hold on to any calories taken in turning it into fat. It ie an evolutionionary adaptions designed to jealous our anscestors survive when food was difficult to find. Also at this point your body may start to turn muscle mass into amino acids and fat meaning you will lose it. I am not your Dr though, I would ask her first. Also you can trick your body by working out even if you are under the 1200 calories. -
I have noticed that I have become a cheap date. I used to be able to drink almost a bottle in a night and now 3 shots and I am good to go. I think it more than likely has something to do with losing fat, the more fat the more alcohol it takes to affect the system. Also you probably (hopefully) eating less so you have less carbs and other food to adsorb the alcohol. Has anyone noticed that way significantly less the day after they drink? I think it is because you lost water and are dehydrated.

I am young and have always enjoyed drinking with my friends and going out. I usually stick to shots of vodka with diet soda. My favorite is bubble gum vodka and diet 7up, it taste like a lollipop, you should try it. Three Olives makes a good bubble gum vodka and I recently found a very cheap bubble gum vodka from Georgi (?) it was 10 bucks.

Lap Band Cut Trough The Stomach
sam3841 replied to Danish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read a blog comparing the lap band to hammer, you can have a hammer and a nail but if you don't do the work it is still a hammer and a nail. The lap band helps form habits that last a life time, just as the habits of over eating and not exercising were formed habits. Lap band surgey is a miracle cure for being fat, its a tool in making lifestyle changes easier. -

To Fill Or Not?
sam3841 replied to gotmyeyeontheprize's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know exactly how you feel. I had been filled and was going really good eating then three weeks in somehing happened and my band got so tight, I could barely drink anything but I was losing weight. I finally gave in after Christmas and had 1.5 ccs removed and man do I feel good. I agree that your band may have inflammed the area above due to eating too much over the holidays but who doesn't. Something that worked well for me is drinking hit tea before I eat I start about an hour before. The hot water soothed the inflammation. Good luck -
Should I Increase My Calorie Intake?
sam3841 replied to legnarevocrednu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should use my fitness play to track calories, it also figures the calorie amount you need to hit your goal weight. It tracks your weight and adjust the calorie goal for each day according to that weight. It also gives you a message when you are done journaling if you eat to few calories or too many. The problem with not eating enough calories is that it is difficult to get the required nutrients and while the strike quoted above is accurate, it fails to mention a prolonged date of starvation in a human body which already has a high fat content. This state involves the body treating every meal as its last meal and converting it directly to fat. Fat is actually very healthy in correct amounts. The physical trainer I work with, demands that I eat 1500 calories in small meals. This amount revs up the metabolism and keeps it going strong. He recommends a protein shake in the morning and at night, since ideally the body should run on protein. I hope this helps. -
Pizza Occassionally, Fill or no Fill???
sam3841 replied to larpens's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different. I had like 7.5 ccs in my band and that was way too much, I was just able to eat spider but I was losing like 10 lbs a montth. When I went in for another fill which I knew I didn't need they ended up taking 1.5 ccs out. Now I have very little restriction and have been able to eat just about anything. I could usually only eat a couple bits of pizza before, but everyones experience is different but no one likes to be stuck. -
