Does Anyone Else Have This Problem?
sam3841 replied to justmermp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder if when you paid for the surgery did it include a year of fills? If so maybe it is a way of making more money cause if they delay your fills then you will still be coming in regularly after the year is up. If this is true you really need to switch drs cause it sounds like he is in it for the money. When I go in for fills, it only takes 15 minutes at most so I don't see why he can only 6 in an entire day. Switch drs girl -
30 Lbs To Goal. How Many Calories Do You Eat & What Are You Eating? And What Are You Doing For Exercise?
sam3841 replied to Kiskis's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I am 31 lbs from goal. I exercise 5 times a week with an your of cardio and usually 40 minutes of streght training 3x a week. I walk about 3 x a week. As far as food only an average day. Breakfast: protein shake and sometimes cereal. Lunch: a lean cusine. Dinner 3oz of protein and if I am sill hungery some carbs or veggies. I snack 3x a day which are: skinny cow ice cream, almonds or wheat thins with a cheese wedge. I got my last fill about a month ago and have really hit my stride losing 12lbs since then. Goodluck! -
This is really embarrassing but I recently as of the beginning of Feb, switched birth control methods to the depo shot. My period is two weeks late and there is no chance I am preggers, unless its an act of God. My Dr did mention that in some in women they noticed a reduction to total lost of period in 9 months. But its only been a month, so I don't think its that. Has anyone had this happen?
-
Sorry I meant I would love to not have to deal with getting a period again.
-
Thanks! I would to not get a period, but I wasn't expecting it to work so quickly. Did you guys still get monthly bloating or dis that go away to?

Over Eating After An Unfill
sam3841 replied to dramastarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had two unfilled before Christmas (needed because I couldn't keep solids food down) . I will admit I had a hard Christmas and really ate whatever I wanted and how much for a couple days, then I had to buckle down and admit that I was going to make this work, feeling hungry all the time again is no fun. I went back to basics, protein shakes twice daily(gnc has a protein called total lean 25, it also has an appetite suppresser, which is just what I needed). I also tired high protein, fish fillets and I religiously logged my food on myfitnesspal. I lost 3 lbs, which I can say those are the proudest three lbs I have lost. I considered taking oxypro elite, but decided to tough this out. I went for a fill mid feb, which had to wait even though I was practicallly begging the office to do it earlier. I also increased my burn calories. You can do this. Dig deep, even give yourself I couple days, if needed and gorge. Then pull yourself up and use everything you have learned so far. I also went to a support group for the first time, which was hosted by my surgeon, and I really enjoyed it. Don't worry this to shall pass and you will get most of those ccs back. -
Agree, ask your surgeon and be honest with them. I told him before be banded that just because I got the band doesn't mean I am not going to have a life and some drinks with friends. I always make sure to stay hydrated. I probably drank qbout 2 weeks after being banded and because I was with my friend got pretty tipsy. But since then I eased into it. Remember to check the calories, they maybe empty calories but they are my favorite kinds of empty calories. Crystal light with coconut rum is good. I always make myself workout harder on the day of the day after.

When Did You Have Your First Drink?
sam3841 replied to kdalesandro7733's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was very up front with my Dr that I was going to drink with the band. I had turned 21 3 months before. What I have really noticed is I am much more of a light weight. From weighing less to eating less food. Be careful with carbonation. Also I throw up a lot easier so really pay attention to your body. I usually stick with straight shots and chase with diet soda, less calories about 90 a shot, clear liquor has less calories. -
Band Feels Too Tight???????
sam3841 replied to kit2477's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happened to me twice. I got a fill in November and had good restriction and then all of sudden my band got so tight I could barely even get water down. I went about 5 days on hit fluids thinking it was just swollen until I finally called my Dr. Then I got an emergency unfilled and the prn said it happens sometime. Then about a month after that my band got tight again over night and I went in for another unfilled. It's so strange when it happens, so trust me call your Dr. -
To Those Of You Who Say You Don't Have Time For Exercise...
sam3841 replied to Violet953's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I agree, you should agree to disagree. But I do think that exercise does help with loose skin to an extent. It's amazing that you lost 100 lbs with no exercise. You must of had amazing discipline in your diet. Because one of the main reasons I work out is so I can increase my caloric intake and increase my metabolism. Everyone is different though. Exercise allows you to be a little more free with your diet, with the understanding of calories in, calories out. -

Exercise Is Making Me Sooo Hungry! Help!
sam3841 replied to LipGlossedDespot's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually have the exact opposite effect when exercising. I tend to do an hour of cardio4x a week and weights 3x a week. When I get done I am not hungry at all, I usually have to force myself to eat. If you eat within an hour of working you can increase your metabolism and wif you do you should eat protein to help your body recover. I also find on days I workout my appetite isn't there at all. -
If you have the resources available, I would really recommend getting a couple sessions with a personal trainer. They not only can show you how to properly use the machine but can also show you new exercise that target your problem areas. Good luck!

I am going to have to check this out, just hearing about makes me mad. It's on the food network right? Have you guys ever watched my 600 lb life?

Anyone Else Feel Like A Class Action Suit Against These Doctors?
sam3841 replied to rvioux's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry you have had a disappointing experience with he band. But I also agree that you should to talk to your about replacing the obviously faulty band. I don't understand why he hasn't suggested this already. I would try contacting the manufacturer, because if it is a fault with the actual band and not placement or the surgery, they will be the ones held responsible. Good luck and talk to your Dr. -
I had my surgery done by Dr. Malley. He was awesome. He kind of reminds me of a dirty hippie for some reason, lol. But him and his staff were so amazing. I went in at 830am and left 240pm the same day, but I hear they are requiring an overnight stay now. Everything about this journey with them has been amazing. The only thing I would change is I really haven't seen Dr Malley much since my surgery.

Port Placement? And Friends?

Wow I thought I got the band young, I was 21 Congrats!! A lot of people who I have told about the band are like "but you are so young, couldn't you just workout and diet?" These people just don't understand. Let the haters, hate. You made the decision so you could live the life you wanted. Almost ever bandaged I have talked to wish they would have gotten the name sooner, so they could have lead a healthy and happy life. Good luck with everything and be proud of the choices you made. -
Sorry I didn't mean that to come out so harsh. That was not what I intended.

I think you/she should listen to her nutritionist at staying around 1200 calories. After all this person is the one who was trained in this field not you.
-
Your nutritionist should be the one you listen to. You need at least 1200 calories. This is determined to be your, and most women's , basal metabolism level. This meaner its the amount of calories need by your body to perform basic and necessary functions such as maintance of body temp. People think because they are eating less then this they will lose more, this is not the case. What actually happens is your body goes into shock and acts as if the last food it recieved is the last food it will get, it goes into survival mode and immediately converts this into fat. So while you may be working out, everything you pit into your body is turning into fat. If this makes sense it will be really helpful in the future. I was wondering why I wasn't losing weight when I was only eating at max 800 calories, but when I bumped it up the lbs melted off.

I would not recommend starting a high impact exercise so soon. Your joints are not used to it, its just like conditioning your heart for cardio. Also check with your dr. I know my Dr said no cardio for a month besides walking of course.
