When Will I Be Able To Eat Real Food Again?
sam3841 replied to Journey2Healthy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there. Please please please call your Dr and ask them to talk to you about the guidelines. I am about 16 months post op and have lost over 90 lbs. I ate real food prior to when my Dr told me and I really wish I hadn't. I was really lucky not have anything bad happen but I was one of the lucky ones, you might not be. It's not worth it. I found that boiled cabbage blended filled me up and drinking water like I was dying. Your Dr should have told you what to do. The main reason why you should not eat real food too soon is because your stomach is healing from not only having the lap band on it but the stitches to secure it. When you eat solid food your stomach curns and smashed it up. Don't make its job harder, it really should just be healing or you could damage it or have a slip easier. Oh and fyi I had pizza last Friday but only a piece rather than the whole thing and I was full. You will have plenty of time to eat the foods you love ( just a lot less) but that time is not now. -
It will be okay. Kind of sounds like a slip to me or you are just way too tight. At least you got in to see your Dr quickly. My Dr will always see me right away if I think something is wrong or I am too tight. Good luck.

I'm Beginning To Get Worried!
sam3841 replied to chriskatsmi7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You really need to be careful. I think I was just on mushy food stage at that point. But yeah I did cheat but looking back I really wish I had not. At 8 days you are still healing and you could do serious damage to you band aka a slip or more. Your doctor gives you guidelines that are proven to maximize your success. At this point you really need to exercise your will power ( I know that if we could all do this we wouldn't need the band or at least I wouldn't ). You are probably going to feel like this until you get some fills. I didn't know that my Dr had put in primer so I started with 4 ccs in my band, which is why looking back I wish I would have been more careful. I have been real lucky but please don't press your luck. I have found gnc makes a protein shake with an appetite suppressor and it works really well. It's called Total Lean it has 25 grams of protein and they taste pretty good. Good luck! -
Every doctor is going to be different because every Dr has a different procedure in how they place the band. This is why everyone should to talk to their own surgeon about it. I did wait to try soda for about 2 months and never had any issues but everyone is different.

First talk to your Dr. Second I drink beer all the time, have never had a problem with carbonation and my Dr never told me I could not do carbonation. He did however recommend that I pour it out into a glass and let it sit for 15 minutes. But your Dr may say something else. Also remember most beers are a minimum of 200 calories and lots of carbs. You should search alcohol in the forum to hear more about it

Stuff Coming Out Of Scar
sam3841 replied to Karma88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call your surgeon to make sure. Wounds can open it and it can become a very big deal. There should be an on call nurse who you can talk to. Plus if it later becomes a big deal they have documentation. -
At The Store Right Now...help Please.

I have never tried gummies before. I just know my surgeon said chewable but I guess gummy is chewable too? And they actually taste good? -

My surgeon said to get chewable. Centrum makes one and best choice too. I would worry the gummy would get stuck. They are a little chalky much not that bad. He also had me get chewable calcium. Your surgeon should have given you a list. -
Is it a box of sangeria? I might not be able to spell it but I do love to drink it. Can I join?Dr Oz website has a recipe for healthier version, which is pretty good. I don't think anyone said alcohol should be a major part of diet and I don't think anyone else did unless in jest. Like I have said this topic comes up so many times and its always the same argument. There will always be two sides: those who say that yes I do enjoy some alcohol in moderation and those who say how unhealthy and how far it will set you back. Listen I am not an alcoholic but I do enjoy doing to a club, bar or simply staying at my house enjoying a couple drinks with friends. I do thinks I would never have done had I not lost this weight. Again I would like to state to the op you need to talk to your surgeon about this and be truthful to them. Everyone has a vice, well at least the fun ones. Lol When I talked to my surgeon about my drinking habits , he said that most people will be that honest. He said wait at least a month to heal. Your surgeon will probably say something different due to them using a different technique. He actually laughed when I told him and said well don't we all enjoy some drinks now and then.

I would never consume my daily calories in alcohol. But I want to enjoy my life. I also tend to work out longer on days I do to make up for it. And yes I even log every drink I take in myfitnesspal. Yes I consume alcohol and yes I eat ice cream, well delicious frozen yogurt sometimes. Everything in moderation, that was always the problem I had before the band and it has helped make amazing changes to the way I choose to live my life.

I can say from almost a year and half of being banded and 90 lbs lost that drinking alcohol has not held me back. But again your experience may be different and you need to tell your Dr. The reason I got the lapband was to make some positive lifestyle changes but I also enjoy going out with my friends, having a couple drinks or shots. I got the band so I could live the life I wanted to and that does include some alcohol. Plus they did a study in britian that found that women who drink 3 to 4 a week are actually healthier than those who don't. It was a 20 year study. Again you should have this conversation with your surgeon.

Omg Worst Lap Band Experience Of My Life! (Some Might Find It Funny)
sam3841 replied to Kim Lap Band Talk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is why I always stand up if I have to throw up. But lol! -
Yeah and sure that was a good joke. Stick to straight shots, anything clear only 90 calories and crystal light. And yes lots of lots of water

Should not drink water sorry. I hope this doesn't sound mean but facts qre facts
-
I don't know where you got your info on that one, but I can assure you the ph of alcohol is normally 7.0, though sometimes the range 6.0 to 7 is more accepted. Water has a ph of 7.0 so by this reasoning you should drink water either. With the understanding that 7.0 is neutral.

I lost 16 lbs the first week. After that I was pretty constantly at the 2lbs a week, for a total now of 87 lbs and I am only 7 lbs away from onederland. I want it so badly. Just remember to enjoy the beginning cause the more weight you have to lose the faster it comes off. The closer you get to your goal the harder you have to work at it. Also my Dr shared with me that on average lap band patients only lose 50 to 60 % of their excess weight. This is coming from drs pooling their patient records so its pretty reliable. I am 75% . You need to be upfront with your Dr about alcohol use. I had turned 21 a couple months before so I told him plan on drinking once in a while. After all the reason I got the band was I could live a fun and more enjoyable life. Listen to your drs suggest about when you can start. Remember alcohol is empty calories but I always say they are damn good empty calories. Also remember since your losing weight and eating less you are going to be more of a lightweight. Also you should search the forum cause this topic has come up before, so you can get more input.

Carnie Wilson Had Lap Band Surgery.....
sam3841 replied to Yve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I talked to my prn about it and she said it us very common for those you had bypass to get the lapband cause bypass only works for about 5 years. She said they do that surgery all the time. -
I am in the same place. I started out at 294 now I am down to 209 as of this morning. I really really want to hit onederland so badly. This past month I have lost about 12 lbs so I hope this keeps on going. I have exercising like 2.5 hours a day and eating well so it will happen but I hate the delay.

Hey! A couple years ago I lost 80 lbs on my own (obviously I gained it back) and I started to notice saggy skin, I got a trainer and really hit the weights. I focused on hydrating my skin from the inside out. The skin tightened up eventually. Now I have lost about 84 lbs and am noticing a lot more saggy skin my arms, it should be noted that I weighed a lot more the second time. So I am going to focus on hydrating the skin again. I hope given time my skin will bounce back. Also I have noticed that the slower the weightloss the tighter the skin. So I don't think it is necessary a good thing to drop 10 lbs in a week even though we would all love that.

Freaking Out - Slipped Band?
sam3841 replied to Kate rules's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nurse told me when I thought I had slipped that if you are able to swallow you are fine. Regardless, you should call your nurse and talk to her or schedule an emergency appointment just to check. You probably pulled a muscle in your abs or strained it. You should look up stretches to do to help untighten the muscle -
