Eating With Large Groups At Big Meals After Lap Band
sam3841 replied to Lapbandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This might sound like a cop out but for people who don't know about my band I usually say one of three things: I am trying to lose weight, my stomach has been bothering me too or I just ate. Like I said cop out. I usually don't have a problem eating big meals (well for me small) with my family. I do sometimes stare longingly at the food I used to be able to eat, but then I think I have 100 lbs and it doesn't seem to matter. -
My Dr had no problem with soda but did suggest pouring it out into a glass and letting it sit for 15 mins then add ice if needed. But he did say the gas could stretch the pouch out so you could eat more so be careful with that. You should ask your dr, everyone is different.

Has Anyone Experienced This Type Of Pain?
sam3841 replied to sharonk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I get the same pain when I get stuck or am too tight or there is swelling. It helps me if I drink more fluids especially hot fluids like tea. The hot pad is good too. But I would call your Dr asap. And unfill is usually exactly what I need. -
It Is The Band That Erodes, Not Your Stomach
sam3841 replied to lappyloo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The only reason my Dr pointed it out was because at the time I had active lupus. He said the same thing that they didn't understand why it has this effect, when other similar diseases don't. He just said that the medical community doesn't understand lupus well, which is something I heard from almost every Dr other than the specialist, but the more they do they may be able to explain it. -

I don't know if anyone will find this interesting but my Dr told me that inflammatory diseases like lupus can cause an increase rate if band erosion. -
I do respect your opinion though. I would like to add there are a lot of successful people on this forum who drink alcohol. Just because you consume alcohol doesn't mean you get "shitfaced". I enjoying the relaxing and fun feeling. You should look up other alcohol topics and read the debate.
-
I think your response is very one sided. People don't just drink to " go out every other weekend bar hopping and getting shitfaced". Everyone's Dr's instructions are different. I was up front with Dr saying I didn't plan on giving up drinking and he said he saw now reason to give it up but wait a month to heal. You can be very successful and enjoying going out and drinking. It's something I enjoy and why should I have to give up somethin I enjoy. To me the band isn't about depriving yourself of everything you enjoy. It's about portion control and making better choices. Everyone seems to be aware that alcohol has empty calories but you can factor it into your diet.

I use the depo shot. I love it. Go in every 3 months, for 15 mins and you are done. I haven't noticed any weight gain and I don't get periods anymore. I would recommend it but check with your Dr.

No. Download myfitnesspal, it will help. Most people have a basal metabolic rate ( the calories your body needs to perform basic functions) of 1200. You should look calories needed to maintain weight. Everyone has a different number depending on weight and height. Mine is 2200. To lose weight without exercise you subtract a daily amount to add up to the weight you want to lose per week. 1 lb of fat is 3500 calories. To lose 1 lb you need to cut 500 calories a day from that number. Now if you work out you can subtract that number from what you ate to give a net of calories. So calories you eat you add, calories burn you subtract. For example if I ate 1600 calories then burned 600, I would have a net of 1000.

Hey! Can you add me: Sam3841. I have been having problems with not eating enough lately, but I am just not interested in food. I would like to see what you guys are eating and see if that helps.

I celebrated national tequila day in true form. I never had an issues with alcohol. I just watch for carbonation and I know that it is going to affect me more.

Hey! I was 21 when I got banded and I am 22 now, soon to turn 23. I am 5'10, my starting weight was 294 and I weigh 197 today. I am working on those last 20 lbs. It was embarrassing to know that you need wls to help you lose weight but the only thing I would change would getting the band sooner. I love it. Trust me it would be worse if I didn't. It's awesome to be young and enjoying life like all my friends other than wishing I could.

Back in November I had to get an unfill. When you are too tight like that they insert the needle and literally the fluid in the band is pushed out rather than pulled out. This is done by the pressure of the swelled tissue pushing on the band, that's how they determine how much comes out. You need to wait for the swelling to go down and then later, a month for me, go back and they will put the fluid back, but not all. It's amazing how much a .2cc can make. Your Dr is going to be very careful for your next fill cause they now know how much is too tight for you.

Alcohol Two And A Half Weeks After Surgery?
sam3841 replied to Carpe Diem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There will always be two answers to this question : 1. Don't drink, it's empty calories and can upset your gastro system; 2. Drinking is fine in moderation, just like everything else. Personally I drink a maybe 1 or 2 times a week. I have lost nearly 100 lbs and am close to goal weight, so you can drink and be successful. I didn't get the lapband so I could live, what I consider, to be a restrictive lifestyle for the rest of my life. I got it so I could live a healthy and fun lifestyle. I was upfront with my Dr that yes I plan on drinking in the future. You know what he said? He said in a month you can drink anything you want. You don't have to be perfect all the time. But do it safely by listening to your Dr. Also to address the whole "studies" issue. Yes there seem to be new studies coming out all the time about the benefits of alcohol. For example a new one came out finding a link between increase bone density and having 2 drinks daily. -

Drinking Non-Carbonated Alcohol
sam3841 replied to BrandieRiggsby's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I waited a month per me drs instructions. Be up front with your doctor so he can be honest about how long you should wait. But I have never have a problem with alcohol. Other than I have noticed my band get tighter. -
It's best to consume your protein after your workout, an hour after. I have had two trainers tell me this. Your metabolism is going to be the highest after your workout and you need to refuel your muscles after working them so hard. When I did weight training and cardio 5x a week for two hours I was told to aim for 90 grams a day. Protein levels should be increase by how long and the intensity of your workout. But remember your body can only process about 25 grams of protein at a time, the rest goes in urine.

Holy Crap My Band Is Frozen !
sam3841 replied to KeepMoving's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My lapband dr said to drink hot fluids to reduce swelling in the tissues surrounding the band. It has to do with water in the tissue and reactions. -
Holy Crap My Band Is Frozen !
sam3841 replied to KeepMoving's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Rereading your post, the altitude is the culprit. If you live there your body will adjust, and I agree you should get liquid removed if you need too its better than torturing yourself and your weight lose will stop cause you might only be eating slider food. If you left it your body will adjust and go back to before you were there and you shouldn't need to have fluid removed. -
Holy Crap My Band Is Frozen !
sam3841 replied to KeepMoving's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a really hard time believing your band froze on you. Actually I am saying there is a zero % chance that it did. Your band maintains the same temp as the surrounding tissue. Did your surrounding tissue freeze? Also its saline solution in your band which actually freezes at a lower temp then water. Your band did not freeze, if it did you would be in morge right now cause your body would have frozen too. You probably irradiated the tissue causing it to swell. Hot tea and soups will help reduce swelling. -
When Are You Finished?
sam3841 replied to agdunkle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr and I had this conversation yesterday. She said I should maintain the weight I am now. But I am still in the overweight range for bmi. She said not to go by bmi cause it doesn't factor in bone frame or muscle mass. She said if I was aiming for one number on the scale I would hit it one day and go up 5 lbs bc of water weight. She said instead focus on what size pant do you want to be? I am thinking size 12. ( I am 14 now, I have really wide set hips and I am 5'11). She said go by your pant size and how good you look in your clothes. So many people focus on the number on the scale, which is going to change daily, and then lose sight of what they look like and how they feel in their body. You need to focus on how you feel and if you look the way you want to look. A number is just a number but how good you look in that sexy dress well that's something more. -
Light Headed And Dizzy After Treadmill...anyone Else?
sam3841 replied to dhales's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Pb can contribute. But I would also try standing in one place before getting off the treadmill and focus on one spot. Think about it, you have been moving forward according to your body but your eyes have been seeing the same thing. Now your walking off the treadmill and the world is moving. Give your body sometime to adjust. This works for me after I get done running in he treadmill. Also make sure you are moving your arms so your blood won't have a chance to pool anywhere. -
Started Exercising And Stopped Loosing Weight?
sam3841 replied to aliciab's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I am sorry that you are offended by my correction. Most people on here who are just starting to work out need to know the simple facts of exercising and weight lifting. Facts are more valuable than false statements even in encouragement, in my opinion. I wouldn't want your encouragement to make her believe that those three lbs on the scale she gain where all muscle. Muscle takes a long time to build. But if you are trying to gain muscle you need to drink your Protein after your workout. You just broke the muscle, you need to supply it with the right nutrients to rebuild. The best way to judge the fat vs muscle on the scale is with measuring tape, how clothes fight and how hard you can push it. To build muscle it is going to hurt and you need to stretch before and after.
