Insurance approval for another revision
mountaingirlCO posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the band in 2010, revision to sleeve in 2014 due to major band slip (couldn’t even drink water with empty band), and now having acid reflux and weight gain following a hysterectomy in 2016 and looking for options to revise again. Anyone else have a similar situation and any success with insurance approval? -
Bypass or Duodenal Switch or SIPS
mountaingirlCO posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m currently going through the process for a sleeve revision (tests, insurance clearance,etc.). Originally I was thinking duodenal switch (DS) or SIPS/DS loop but now I’m also looking into the possibility of a revision to bypass. I lost the majority of my weight with the band in 2010, revised to sleeve due to band slip in 2014 but never felt any restriction with the sleeve, and now have gained back almost half of my original loss following a hysterectomy about 2 years ago. I think I will likely be able to lose at least some if not all of my excess weight with any of these revision options but am most concerned about keeping the weight off long term. Any recommendations based on your own revision experiences would be greatly appreciated. Every time I think I’ve made a decision on the right path forward I start to reconsider again and need to make a decision soon. Thank you!- 2 replies

Looking for a SIPS buddy!!
mountaingirlCO replied to sweetsagi's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Dr Snyder also did my band in 2010, revision to sleeve in 2014 and I literally just left his office to discuss various options available now (revision to bypass, mini bypass, DS, SIPS (DS loop)). Dr Snyder does revisions from sleeve to bypass or mini bypass himself and one of his partners, Dr. Metz, does revisions to DS or SIPS. Right now I’m considering all of my options. -

I’m a band to sleeve revision now looking at DS loop. I’m just getting started with the tests, insurance, etc. How are you doing so far? -
Third Revision...
mountaingirlCO replied to Caela88's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m not the OP but looking at something similar and I WAS successful with the band (lost 115 lbs and was within 15 lbs of my goal) until I had a major slip and revised to the sleeve. I never had restriction with the revision to the sleeve but managed not to gain weight for 2 years until 3 years ago when I had a hysterectomy. Now I’ve gained back 50 of my original loss and am exploring a new surgical alternative after trying many other things for the last 3 years to get back on track. Looking at GB or DS now. -
☀️ Have you had VSG to Loop DS/ Sadi-s Revision? Share your experience🌙

I'm looking at a revision from sleeve to DS loop too. How are things going now? Also, you mentioned you were self pay - do you mind sharing the cost? I'm looking into insurance but might end up being self pay too. Thanks and I hope you are doing great! -

Third Revision...
mountaingirlCO replied to Caela88's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m looking into the same thing as the OP. Band in 2010, revision to Sleeve in 2014 due to band slip resulting in the inability to even drink water, and now looking for another option due to acid reflux and regain after a hysterectomy in 2016. I never felt restriction with the sleeve and didn’t lose much after the sleeve and now am half way back to where I started on my WL journey. I’m going to call my WL surgeon to make an appointment to see what my options are at this point and to see what is needed for insurance to pay. If anyone else with a similar experience has any words of wisdom to share that would be greatly appreciated. -
Band07, I can totally relate. I was banded in December 2010 and it was fantastic for about the first 18 months. I lost about 90 pounds with the band before I started having problems, managed to maintain for the next 16 months and had revision surgery to the sleeve on October 1, 2013. Since then I have lost 20 pounds. I keep telling my surgeon's office that I don't feel anything and even jokingly (sort of) asked if they forgot to do the sleeve. I haven't felt full, sick and only get to satisfied when I eat more than the recommended 4 oz (usually more like 6-8 oz or I am hungry again in no time). They keep telling me this isn't suppose to be really uncomfortable or difficult like it was with the band but I truly feel nothing unless I am eating 6-8 oz of more dense food. I work out 30-60 minutes 6x a week which I have done ever since the original band surgery but wonder if I will ever make it to goal. I have 35 more pounds to go before I hit the very top of the normal BMI chart. I guess I was hoping for more too and still hoping I might get there eventually. This is probably not much help but at least you know you are not alone - and now I do too so thank you for your post.

I was looking for a 5:2 Diet book on Amazon and there are a few of them. Any suggestions regarding which one to purchase? Although I don't plan on doing it just yet I like to be prepared for the future in case I hit a significant stall later in the process.

Starbucks suggestions?
mountaingirlCO replied to pittsy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chocolate banana smoothie with double the protein. Super yummy and a really good alternative to the standard protein shake. You may only be able to have half or less but it is really good and has a good amount of protein. -
Multi-vit that doesnt make you puke?
mountaingirlCO replied to Samijo4391's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The centrum flavor burst chewable vitamins are like candy. Give them a try in the mixed fruit flavors if you are looking for a tasty chewable. -
How much "stretching" can be expected post surgery?
mountaingirlCO replied to Strangefruit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said you can't hurt your sleeve with liquids but to keep anything non-liquid to a max of 4 oz until 6 months. -
I was told by my doctor that when you lots of weight quickly the fat lost releases hormones which can make you emotional and irritable. I know I experienced that when I was losing weight quickly with WLS round one. I recently revised from the band to the sleeve and expect to be experiencing the same again soon.

How much are you eating?
mountaingirlCO replied to BigD35's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 weeks out and was told by my doctor to have 1-4 oz primarily protein 5-6 times a day. He said never to have more than 4 oz at a time until 6 months post op and the to slowly increase to a maximum of 8 oz for 1 year and beyond. I know every doctor is different but I plan on following my doctor's instructions as I have met many of his patients and they have had great success. -
I had my band to sleeve revision on 10/1 and am down 10 pounds so I am right there with you. I'm getting 50+ of protein and 64+ of water and working out (hiking or biking) at least 30 minutes every day. I know it is slow but as long as my weight continues to go down I am trying not to worry about it. It will have to come off eventually eating 800 calories a day right?

what to get at red lobster 5 weeks post op.
mountaingirlCO replied to birdmadgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The lobster bisque is my go to there at this point but I am only 3 weeks out. -
Any idea if peppermint or wintergreen is good or bad for the stomach? I am thinking tea or the occasional mint not the straight oils. I am three weeks post op.

I agree the sooner the better. I have found the longer you spend emailing the more you build each other up in your minds and the less likely it is to work out. Best of luck!

1 Week Post Op And It Feels Like They Forgot The Sleeve
mountaingirlCO posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am just over one week post op and it feels like they removed the band but forgot the sleeve. I just started soft foods yesterday and feel like I could eat far more than the one ounce every two hours I am suppose to. Anyone else have this experience? -
1 Week Post Op And It Feels Like They Forgot The Sleeve
mountaingirlCO replied to mountaingirlCO's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was on liquids for 1 week. Weeks 2 and 3 are liquids plus 1 ounce every 2 hours of one of the following: egg whites, refried beans, yogurt, sf pudding or lf cottage cheese. I know 1 ounce isn't that much but I swear I don't feel anything. I remember feeling much more restriction with the band early in the process. I am just worried I am going to be able to eat too much if I am not really careful. -
Sleeved October 1. Having some pain and nausea but the meds help. Been up and walking a few times down the hall and to the bathroom. Trying some clear liquids now and going home either later this afternoon or tomorrow. Let me know how you are doing post op other October Sleevers!
-
I am October 1 too! Starting to get anxious but also very excited. I am a band revision to sleeve so feel like I have been through at least some of this before. Congrats, good luck and I will see you on the post op side soon!
