Make sure you stay hydrated - water, juice, broth, anything. For protein try soy milk with flavorless protein powder & a little peanut butter - not as sweet as the actual protein shakes so less nausea. Also, I felt much better not taking all the prescrips and switched to liquid tylenol only.

I gave up caffeine 2 weeks before my surgery 12/2/10 which sucked for a few days but haven't had any since. I have found the hardest time for me is 1st thing in the morning so I have 4 oz of oj first thing in the morning which helps significantly - just be sure no to over do the oj because it is high in sugar. I also take a liquid multivitamin that has tons of b vitamins which helps also.

Lap Band or Realize Band - Why did you choose yours?
mountaingirlCO replied to slm2007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon has more experience with the lapband and the just came out with a new lower profile port a few months ago. Also, my port is not attached to anything so less post op pain and less likely to flip as it has nothing to flip on. If attached to your muscle and it starts to detach then it is more likely to flip on the portion still attached & you don't have that option with realize....so that is why I chose lapband and 3 mths out no problems & very happy. Best of luck! -
Sleep on your left side at an incline.

I was banded 12/2/10 and have lost 31 lbs. I have had 2 fills totalling 4.5ccs in a 10cc band and could probably use another small fill since this is the first week I haven't lost any weight.
-
How many cc's do you get at each fill?
mountaingirlCO replied to deedee72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1st fll 3.5ccs, 2nd fill 1.5ccs followed by a .5 cc unfill the next day. I have a total of 4.5 ccs in a 10 cc band. -

Where is your port??
mountaingirlCO replied to lisa-conners@hotmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is 2 inches to the left of my belly button and really deep so don't think I will ever be able see it since I can't even find it now - still have 100 pounds to go though - only down 30 since surgery on 12/2/10. -
Why am I so tired when I wake up in the morning?
mountaingirlCO replied to Bandrea2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc suggests not having much high cal liquids but I have found 4oz of OJ first thing in the morning to be very helpful - just don't over do it. -
Would you do it again?
mountaingirlCO replied to slm2007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 2 months out but I have not had any problems and am down 30 pounds & would absolutely do it again. I have a low profile port & it is really deep so I don't think I will ever be able to see it. A friend of mine had bypass about a year & a half ago and now wishes she had the band instead due to less risk & adjustability. -
Possible over-fil on first fill???
mountaingirlCO replied to mminuk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As long as you are able to get down and keep down at least 48oz (and ideally 64oz+) of water plus some thin protein drinks a would wait it out for a couple of days. If not I would see if there is somewhere else you can go (dr office or er) to have a slight unfill as you can begin to dehydrate within 24 hrs and end up in the hospital within 48 hrs. I just went through this myself with my 2nd fill and ended up having .5cc removed (now @ 4.5ccs in a 10cc band and feel much better. Best of luck! -

mountaingirlCO replied to mountaingirlCO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wanted to ckeck in and see how my fellow december bandsters are doing. I am 5 days post op now, off all meds, still a bit of nausea, getting in approx 50 oz of liquid a day but having trouble getting enough protein & don't have much energy. Going back to work tomorrow so wish me luck! -

december 2010 post op
mountaingirlCO replied to mountaingirlCO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on dec 2. I arrived @ the hospital @ 9am, surgery @ 1030 left for home @ 330. I had a lot of chest pain but not much @ the incisions. Had a lot of nausea even with the patch so was given addtl nAusea meds. Pain meds make me dizzy & nausea and nausea meds give me a headache so two days after surgery I am on tylenol only & chest tightness from gas/swelling is improving. On liquids only for 1 week post op. So far not too bad. -
Scared to go to Mexico - Juarez
mountaingirlCO replied to bonnilyn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not go to Juarez - not for surgery - not for anything. A friend of mine has family in Mexico and her uncle was kidnapped by the drug cartel. They paid the ransom and her uncle was dropped off at a hospital but later died from a stroke he had while held captive. The hospital told the family that it was not uncommon for the drug cartel members to call and ask if certain people were at the hospital and if they were and the hospital did not hand them over to the cartel they would kill hospital staff - so the hospital does as requested by the cartel. This is not one of those friend of a friend of a friend stories - this is true - and my neither my friend or her family are involved in drugs - the cartel targets Americans & Mexicans who have family in America who they believe have money to pay the ransom. My friend didn't even go to Mexico for her uncle's funeral because she is a single mother and was afraid to take the risk. Your decision of course - but I wouldn't go anywhere near Juarez. -

mountaingirlCO replied to chocolatecity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am Thursday as well and feel exactly the same way. I can't focus on anything else right now and just want to start the journey to my new life. Nervous - but even more excited! -
December Bandsters (Early Xmas present)
mountaingirlCO replied to chocolatecity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just received my insurance approval this morning. I am hoping for December 2nd surgery but the only person who can schedule my surgery is out on Fridays - so I guess I will find out my surgery date for sure on Monday. -
Waiting for Insurance Approval
mountaingirlCO replied to LeesMimi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me about a month to get all the pre-op testing worked into my schedule - but I work full time. There was one person who posted she had all her pre-op testing scheduled over 2 days - so I guess it just depends. -
BCBS-AZ Anyone? How long to approve?
mountaingirlCO replied to happygirl65's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBS (not AZ though) and my paperwork (including all test results, letter from PCP, etc.) was just submitted to the insurance company today. My surgeon's office told me it would be a week or two before I have a response. -
