    new here...terrrified

Hi Paul, 1) I stayed overnight at Beth Israel and I DID NOT have to get a cath. (which is where I went BTW, and maybe you're from Boston or New England, cuz your post SCREAMS Beantown to me) 2) I walked out of the hospital the next day on my own, with my very own bottle of morphine. (I'm allergic to percs, dilauted, and vicodin.) 3) The surgery was more painful than I imagined, but less painful than getting hit by a mac truck! 4) If you have the surgery, you can have carbonated anything ever again. At least not with the doctor that I have. So no beer or soda for me. BUT I can still have a capecodder when I want to drink so that's not so bad. 5) If your a lazy POS before the surgery you *might* change when you start to loose weight. Like, if you feel like crap at 300 lbs, of course your not going to enjoy taking the stairs instead of the elevator. However you might not feel like that when you are 250. You *might* feel good enough to try to start to incorporate more activity. Try standing while you are working on the computer. Then try moving in place while on the computer. Just some things that have worked for me. 6) Fried foods have a ton of calories, and no, we "shouldn't" eat them. BUT, that being said, the lap band allows you to have a little of the food you like and not overeat. Honestly, when was the last time you ordered a pizza and didn't eat the whole thing by the next day at lunch time? I had ONE slice last night and felt like I had thanksgiving dinner!!! AND I lost a pound! 7) I have a deductible. 2K. Awful, right? and I'm an asshat. I went to the dr for the first time in NOVEMBER. I ended up paying hundreds of dollars last year towards my deductible, and because I needed to wait 6 months to have my surgery, I ended up paying AGAIN this year. Don't do what I did. Start now with the doctors and have your surgery before dec. 31! Save some cash! Good luck!!!

    Anyone fasting Ramadan?

Woah! That's commitment, and faith! No water during the day, that will be tough eating your meal and then getting in your fluids at least an hour before and after eating. Maybe you should start planning when your going to start drinking your water and your meals. Like will you quickly chug say 30 oz of water right after sundown, and then wait 1/2 or 1 hour and have a meal? Then, wait an hour after your meal, and drink the other 30 oz of water? I'm just wondering if maybe you'll have to adjust your bedtime! And, if you'll be drinking all your fluids right before bedtime, you'll probably be getting less sleep anyways since you'll be hitting the potty!! You're definitely going to loose a ton!

    Anyone fasting Ramadan?

Good luck!!! I am not fasting, but I'm just curious, can you still drink water during the day? Have a good holiday month!

    kettlebell-anyone try it?

oh my the kettle bell can kick your behind. I use one at the gym for squats and for swinging back and forth between my legs to just parallel to my shoulders. It's pretty good. BUT I do have to say, my batwings are hanging on despite the kettle bell!
  5. Oh sweetie!!! What a terrible position to be in. We all want to loose our baby weight quickly, and most want to feed our children bm because it is so good for them. Is there a reason why you need to loose the weight now, or could you wait just a bit longer before having a fill? Say until you are ready to wean? Here's why I would wait to get a fill until I was done, or almost done with nursing 1) nursing ACTIVELY burns calories. I've read that you can burn up to 500 calories per day by nursing. that means with exclusive bf'ing you will probably loose weight with a sensible diet 2) you need to keep your Fluid and calorie intake up so that your child gets the most nutritious bm. 3) You may want to investigate the affects of rapid weight loss on bm composition and what is possibly released into your bm. 4) I know that sudden dietary changes and a loss of calories can cause a drop in bm production. 5) like you said, deprivation is hard. Why do that when you are already nursing, which is also hard? It may (or may not) encourage you to give up nursing earlier than you would've otherwise if you feel crappy physically. I'm not an expert, I'm not a lactation expert, and I'm certainly NOT qualified to give medical advice. I say get in contact with someone who can really answer these important questions for you! Good luck momma!

    I cant wait

Welcome!!! Hope you find lots of support and friends here on the boards.
  9. omg, my husband is the same way! He is literally overjoyed with eating my "extras". Additonally, we have a 2 year old and he eats her's too. Hopefully he won't need WLS too! Hee hee. Nah, he's a skinny guy.
  10. Just tooting my own horn here! Today I had NOTHING to wear, because all of my pants looked awful on me. So I took off my size 24 jeans from Lane Bryant (I didn't even have to unbutton them!) and slid on a pair of size 18 Levi's that I bought without trying on 3 years ago. They have NEVER fit me before! NEVER. I'm pleased as punch! They didn't even give me muffin top! So, now that I can wear Levi's I'm vowing to stay out of Lane Brant for the rest of my life! Oh the joys! My goal is now to be in a size 16 by September. Horray for me!

    First Lap Band Fill!

Awesome! Though the liquid mushie diet sucks, you'll probably drop a pound or two just from that! Good luck and thanks for sharing.
  12. hey there. how are you doing today? Hope you are okay! Hugs :)

  13. Thanks! That's my motto I'm not perfect, and I occasionally fall back on bad behaviors, but what I'm trying to do is to stop one failure from becoming 3 weeks of bingeing. So far so good!
  14. how are you doing today? Was it a better day? I'd also like to say that your post, and the positive responses you received from all the people on this board made me extremely happy. This is the way I envisioned this board working! As a forum for support, not as a place to snark at other people. I'm proud of you for sharing, and for the people who responded thoughtfully and helpfully! I really hope you are doing okay. I was thinking about you a lot today.
  15. I am so sorry to hear about your divorce. Even if you wanted the divorce it still must be very painful. I can still eat an awful lot of food too. But I'm trying really hard not to. Do you have a good therapist to talk to? I can't stress how important it was for me to get a therapist and talk to her about my binge eating disorder. Don't beat yourself up, just do better tomorrow. That's all we can do. Try to have more good days than bad. Hugs to you!

    Cocktails???

I also love diet cranberry juice and vodka with fresh lime. It's called a "cape-codder" if you order it around here. Make sure you ask if the juice is diet though, at a bar they usually only have the regular juice and the calories are wicked steep! Also, I totally agree, I'm 3 sheets to the wind after 1 drinkypoo now. Yikes!

    Lap Band and Divorce

I think having good self esteem is important to having a good relationship. I know that I have had serious problems with depression and low self esteem during my 10 year relationship with my husband. I know that who I am becoming as I loose the weight is a happier and healthier person. Sometimes the people we marry or partner with become comfortable with us as overweight/depressed/unhappy people. Sometimes the changes we make in ourselves change the dynamics in our relationships, like we demand more respect/attention/sex etc. Sometimes our partners don't want to make the changes that will allow a relationship to flourish in a healthy way, sometimes they do. I don't judge you for thinking about making changes in your relationship when you are doing so much work to change your life in other ways. YOU need to be a happy and healthy person. YOU will be a better mom if you are happy and healthy. If you can be happy in your marriage, then stay. If you can't be happy then do what you need to do to be happy. Because as the daughter of a single mother, I know that I respect and love my mother for making the choice to leave a bad marriage in order to give herself AND me a better life. Also, to the guy who posted that you should kill yourself, and accused you of having an abortion, I'm embarrassed for him. He's just making all the sane, nice, and loving Christians out there look bad.
  19. Hi Kimmy! Just saw your post. I am recently banded and have PCOS as well. Awesome syndrome, isn't it? Fat, hairy, bad skin, and fertility issues. Jackpot, no? LOL Anyways just wanted to let you know I'm here if you want to chat!

  20. I just crushed a 100 calorie slimfast peanutbutter crunch bar into a quater cup of fat free/sugar free chocolate pudding and topped it with a dollop of sugar free whipped cream. TAKE THAT hubby and daughter with your oooey gooey amazing ice cream sundaes! Mine was waaaaay better. Kinda.
  21. Hey all! Just wondering when those little strips you had over your incisions came off? Mine are FUNKY. I was told to let them come off on their own but I am so icked out by them I just want to yank them! I won't but its a struggle! When did your strips come off and did anyone take them off by themselves?

Does using smaller utensils and plates help?

I use my 2 year old's baby utensils. It helps me feel full. You have to take twice as many bites with a baby spoon to equal the amount I would normally eat with a regular spoon. I think with the added time it takes to eat all those little bites I'm able to feel full sooner.
