  1. Hey Sleepybudman,

I'm doing great, I'm losing inches faster then pounds..I think I have to portion my food a little better then I am and the pounds will start catching up to the inches..All people are different and lose at different rates, I started out fast and then stopped and restarted again. The other guys in the group ( the same day banding( are doing good, we all lost around 60-80lbs each. The other guys had done the pre-op diet and lost some of the weight then, I did not have to do it. I'm trying to lose weight a little slower, because I don't want that extra skin thing going on. Before I started I was wearing size 48 size paints, now , its 44-42 and from XXXL shorts to XXL-XL shirts. I only have had one fill, and I don't think I'll need another for a long time(I hope)but I got my fill here in the states. Dr. Kuri will give info on the places here to get your fills at. Dr. Kuri would like the fist fill to be done there in Mexico, but meny don't have the time or money to make the trip back to Mexico. I live in Oregon and got my fill here for about $100. Good luck where ever you go !!! Ted

  2. Hey bugfather, I live in Oregon and when I checked on prices for self pay they were a lot more then $10,000..more like 16 to 20 grand..I 'm very happy on my decision to go to TJ Mexico and get my band with Dr. Kuri, after all he is one of the best lapband Dr's around,(USA or Mexico)My Band was $8,500 and no problems.:clap2:

Marc, you should check out Dr. Kuri. I think you will be very happy with him and his staff... Good Luck, Ted

  4. Hi all, WOW two days in a row for posting..:clap2:

Last week I think I was a bit of a PIG:eek:..I was told by my wife that I was really eating way to much food for my meals. The food tasted soooo goood that I did have too much, and I'm not even hungry.

We went to an Asian store on Friday to shop, and I bought a very small bowl to use as my plate for my meals.. I started using it Friday night and today I weighed my self and I lost 5lbs, I haven't lost a pound in over a month..Piggy Piggy..:rolleyes So now I'm a happy camper !!! There is no excuse for me not to eat so much for I'm never hungry...I hope this will kick start my weight loss, and I'll start losing again..

DKGINGRAS, I have not heard of that let us all know if it works:).

Have a great reast of the weekend and a good week !!! Ted

  5. BIGSHOW81, Why don't you think you can't go lower then 265lbs ?? My Reg Doc asked me what my goal was and I told him 200-210lbs and he was OK with that, And I'm 6' 6"....I really don't think that's to thin for our height..scene , I've been over 300 for years, I can't Waite to be called to thin....Good luck !!

  6. Hi all, and Happy 4th of July to you all !!!!!:usa2:

I see you guys are doing great, and there is a lot of new guys here too.. I'm still losing but is real slow going..I haven't lost a thing in almost a month..but on the flip side I didn't gain ether..I did go through my closet and got rid of 4 pair of paints and 12 or so shirts that were way to big for me now.. I guess I'm loosing inches and not so much weight.:cry I think I'm one of the lucky few that has had only one fill so far, and I don't think I'll need a second one for a long time. Before my fill I was starving all the time, but after the fill I have no hunger pains at all, and thats great:whoo:...Well got to go and fire up the BBQ for lunch, the wife wants BBQ oysters..:hungry: Talk to you all later,be safe tonight !!!

  8. Hi Diney, I have never heard of this Doc or his work when looking for my own Dr. I did here of Dr. Kuri in TJ MEXICO,:clap2: and found out he is one of the best Dr's around...He charges $8,900 for every thing, like pick up at airport and back ,hospital room for two, hotel for two for up to 2 nights, and free fills, and new hospital with a great staff..I live in Sutherlin, Or neer Roseburg and I'm very happy that I went to Dr. Kuri...:clap2: Good luck !!

  9. Hello, and congrats to you both !!!!

In your research have you considered Dr. Kuri in TJ Mexico? He did mine, and I'm a 100% happy with the work. Dr. Kuri is one of the best lap-band Dr's around. He trained most of the other Dr's in Mexico and some Dr's here in the USA.. The cost is $8,900 for all, Hospital stay for two in a brand new hospital (state of the art), pick up and return to airport, hotel stay for two, and free fill's... Good luck !!:clap2:

  10. How does that make him better than Ortiz? Experience is exceedingly important, I wouldn't go to anyone that has done less than 500 bands but Ortiz has done thousands of bands.

With Dr. Kuri they started something new recently. AFTER the patient gets there they are given a form to sign saying they might or might not get Dr. Kuri for surgery. The form authorizes any of their sugeons to do the surgery. You typically find out who your surgeon is the day of surgery.

I wouldn't be cool with that at all.

When I had set up my surgery back in the early part of Dec. I was given my surgery date of Jan. and was told that there was a week in Jan that Dr Kuri would not be available to do surgeries because he was here in the USA giving lectures to other Dr.s on the band. I set up for my surgery for the following week when the Dr got back , and Dr Kuri did do my surgery himself...I looked over all paper woke before I signed it and there was no clause saying that he might or might not do the surgery him self....I really don't know where you got your info that Dr Kuri has done only hundreds of lapbands and not thousands like Ortiz..Kuri has done them longer..Maybe your band is too tight and you got confused..LOL..:guess

  11. THANKS , I will start eating more solid foods after today and hopefully that will work ! It wasn't like soft foods was all I was eating, I just thought maybe I was eating to much food, that's why I was cutting back on the real stuff and going with the shakes etc..OOOPPPSSSS... Live and learn !!!

  12. Hey, just got back home from having my first fill :clap2:. It went real good, with no problems at all. I had 1.65 cc . After the fill we went to a restaurant so my wife could have a little some thing to eat, and I have some beef broth soup.:hungry: I told the Dr. that I have hit that Plato and have not been able to lose for two weeks, and she asked what I have been eating:guess . So this is what I told her, I will have a little Gerber oatmeal or a Atkins shake with extra Protein for Breakfast. For lunch some left overs or a shake, and for dinner a little food or a shake..:) This was filling me up or so I thought..:nervous

The Dr. then told me that all the shakes in place of real food and not eating real food for all meals was the reason I was not losing the weight.:) She said the only way to keep full and was to eat real food and no mushie type food. (like Gerber's, shakes, broths etc..)The band only works with real food not liquids..All along I thought I was doing good by not eating all the meals with real food, and have my shakes instead, I was delaying my weight loss..:cry I have to be on liquids for 24hrs and then 24hrs of soft foods, but after that I'm not going to have so many soft food and shakes, and I'll see if that will make the difference..Bring on the real food !!!
