Congratulations!! You look fantastic and look years younger! You must feel fantastic too

I think Coops is on the right track -- sometimes when we're thirsty, we confuse thirst with hunger -- I do it all the time. (Sometimes I confuse it the other way too! ) I would say if you drink a bottle of Water and you're still "hungry," then have a piece of cheese or some other Protein -- doesn't hurt and will satisfy whatever you need to do with your mouth -- The key is to develop good habits so when you are stressed or reacting emotionally, that you reach for the healthy alternative, right? My current go to food is instant Cappuccino with truvia for sweetener. But it changes -- it used to be mozzarella. I'm sure it will change in the future -- the key is keeping it healthy.

I've watched you from before I had surgery --- so you've been a great help to me

stuck at 178 for 5 weeks
juliarh replied to mbridgeman27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, just this morning I said to my husband, "Look, I've lost 10 pounds since February!" That's not a bad weight loss -- 10 lbs a month is fantastic -- in fact, I've pretty much lost 10 pounds a month since my 2nd or 3rd month -- the first month you're going to the lose the fastest -- but there after should be a regular, steady weight loss -- some months more, some months less -- but more or less the same. 16 lbs in one month is awesome!! Don't worry, you're still gonna lose! And a 5 week stall is not unheard of -- make sure you're eating your protein, getting in enough calories and drinking your water! -
Like everyone else, I only wish I had had the opportunity to do it a decade ago. It is by far the best thing I have ever done for myself. I truly recommend this to anyone who is obese. This is a life changing operation!

Sizzilng September Sleevers Monday Check In
juliarh replied to Labrys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all -- fairly decent week for me. I'm down 1.8 lbs. Not huge, but TOM is fast approaching, so I'll take what I can get. It's been raining a lot here, and today I'm substitute teaching (eating lunch now), so no golf for me. wah! I'll have to do some Zumba with my Wii or something. Otherwise, everything is going great -- today I am officially 110 pounds down! Pretty happy about that! Hope all is going well with everyone else! -
Do you count net carbs or all carbs?
juliarh replied to Becca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use fatsecret.com -- it has a good food directory and you can make the options calculate for net carbs -- but like I said, it's all kinda iffy -- I think if you're in the ballpark, you're good. -
Hey Meggie -- just subscribed -- great 1st video! Keep 'em coming!

Do you count net carbs or all carbs?
juliarh replied to Becca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I count net carbs primarily because fruits and veggies have carbs -- and we want to get those healthy fibers into our bodies -- I don't eat many processed carbs at all in fact, so most of my carbs are coming from fruits and veggies. For example, one of my granny smith apples will have 23 carbs in it alone -- if I didn't account for the fiber in the apple, I'd use up all my carbs with just one apple -- not realistic or healthy in my opinion. And truly, we really don't know exactly how many calories or carbs are in any one thing (it's all a guesstimate) -- so whether we use net carbs or full carbs doesn't, I don't think, matter in the end -- we just need to be conscious of the carbs we are eating and how they are affecting us . . . my 2 cents for what it's worth. -
Welcome Ashley -- you'll find a very supportive community here

You have NO idea how much better this makes me feel!! Truly!! I am an English teacher AND I am a spelling nut -- but lately, I felt like I was having early onset Alzheimer's -- my spelling is not up to par and I keep using Spanish spelling rules (I'm fluent in Spanish) instead of English spelling rules. It's like my brain decided to go on vacation. I'm waiting for it to come back though, because I'm teaching English starting in August and I don't want to be the English teacher who can't spell worth beans!

How did you decide on your goal weight?
juliarh replied to Amanda131's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey Amanda -- I'm 5'9" too -- I put 165 as my goal just because it was in the normal BMI -- I just want to be normal. But when I was 18 and 19 years old, I weighed around 135 - 145. I'm fairly small-boned (although you wouldn't know it now ) -- so I'm hoping that I can get to 155, but I'm not sure -- I haven't weighed below 190 in 10 years, and haven't weighed below 175 in almost 20. So, we'll see . . . plus there's the age factor (I'm 47 -- closer to 50 than I'd like to be ) -- So I guess what I'm saying is my goal has always been to be normal -- anything below 165 is icing on the cake! -
Just broke into 10's!!!!!!
juliarh replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
HOLY S***!! ('cuse my French ) But really, Irene!! You are truly rocking the sleeve! Cannot believe it -- you are just cruising!! So happy and so proud of you, my sleeve sistah! -
Hey -- nope, no alcohol -- I was never a big drinker anyway (my husband always called me a cheap date cause one or two would do me in) -- and from what I've read about people drinking, it doesn't seem worth it (15 min of feeling good and then nothing) -- and for the calories and carbs, it just doesn't make sense.

This pretty much sums up what most successful VSGers do that I've been reading here on the forum or on YouTube -- I've been trying to do it myself and while I'm not losing at rocket speed, it's been pretty steady. I highly recommend it
