    Julie's Photo Gallery

I had my VSG done on Sept 8, 2010.
  2. You know, I just started shedding this past week and thought, I bet the hair all comes back in gray. sigh. I am 46, so it wouldn't but out of the question, but still!!! I don't currently color my hair (have very few grays) and would like to keep the natural color for as long as possible -- whhaaaaa!! (and another sigh).
  3. Wow -- to be honest, this does not sound like a healthy relationship that you have with your sister at all. I'm wondering if you can go to another doctor -- it's just that she seems to be involved in so many aspects of your life that you don't seem to be able to move without "running into" her. That's not healthy, particularly when she's so controlling. In fact, that's the way a lot of controlling people are -- they seem to NEED to control every aspect of other people's lives. Can you quietly find another family doctor? That will eliminate the need to tell her about the need for the medicine. Then about working for her -- you could just tell her you're not feeling well (which will be the truth). I just don't see the need to tell her because she doesn't NEED to know -- she's your sister, not God. I think that people who are very unhealthy for us shouldn't have complete access to all info about us. You can still be her sister, but you have to set the boundaries -- you have to tell her what information you want to share and withhold the information you don't think will be beneficial for her to know. I haven't told my two brothers for those very same reasons -- they believe that if you control yourself and exercise that you won't have weight problems. Better said than done, in my opinion. I don't know if that helps . . .. hugs.

    17 weeks and....

    Congratulations!! Truly awesome
  8. Hi -- this is what I was told by my surgeon, but PLEASE note that every surgeon's recommendations are different and you should ask/follow his or her suggestions: 1. sex -- we could have sex within 2 weeks following surgery 2. alcohol -- I was told I could have it now (3 months out) -- BUT from what I've read and learned, alcohol is empty calories -- you will be using up a fair amount of your day's allotted calories on alcohol. In addition, from what I've read, the alcohol immediately passes through the stomach to your small intestines, making you feel buzzed immediately and then it wears out immediately. So, might not be worth it until you're done with the losing phase of your post-op adventure. In addition, you probably should avoid any carbonated drinks -- beer, champagne, spritzers, etc. Hope that helps -- and if I don't have the facts right about alcohol (those who are done losing have a better grip on it) then I'm sure others will chime in.
  9. Ahhh my hair is beginning to shed. Since I have thick hair, I don't know whether to panic or celebrate the fact that my head might be a little cooler :/

  10. I second what Irene said -- the carbs are a killer -- good luck and let us know how it goes!
  11. Hooray Cherice!! a new "decade"! There's nothing better, right? And hooray for the new jeans and coat. Disneyland sounds awesome

Oh no, Oh no no no no no

So glad the scale moved for you -- I know how frustrating it can be to have a scale not move when you're doing everything right -- but I think the big advantage to you figuring this out is the help that it gives us (to be selfish) -- now we know that should we ever get in a situation like you did, to really up the calories and see what happens. I'm really glad this worked -- the worst part is that I was reading and couldn't figure out what to say differently than everyone else -- so hooray!

    Update

    You do look great! Congratulations
  14. NSV!!! I had to go to a Xmas party (one of those that is work related) but I didn't have any nice clothes in my current size -- a friend loaned me her size 18s and I had something to wear! What is the NSV you might ask?? I BORROWED CLOTHES FROM A FRIEND! I haven't done that since college (over 25 years ago!!) whoo whoo!

Hi all! I'm 46 (soon to be 47 in 3 months) -- have been married 23 years, have 3 kids (18, 14, 12) and am really thrilled that I had the surgery -- I'm down (as of today) 67 pounds (almost 3 months out) -- currently living in Paraguay as my hubby works for the US Embassy PS -- Julie, I'm Julie too! and I'm 46

"You're losing too much too fast!"

I'm like BlackBerryJuice -- I've gone from a 24/26 to a size 18 (almost 70 pounds) and NO ONE has noticed (or at least said anything) -- now, I don't want them to "worry" like they are with you, Irene, but a compliment once in a while wouldn't hurt -- oh well.
  19. Irene - you are so right -- the scale does not have the final say in the story, we do! So happy you had a loss this week -- I'm with you on the last time I lost weight at Thanksgiving (I think that's a "never") -- whooo whoo!
  20. Hi everyone! Sorry I've been gone since T-day -- had a great time and ate just the right amount, no carbs (which I wanted to cry over, but it was just one day and it's over so . . ) -- I had a big weight loss this week 6.8 pounds after 3 weeks at the same weight -- puts the average weight loss per week at 2 pounds for the month, but what the heck, I'll take it! I think the big difference in the weight loss has been the exercise -- I really upped the exercise, walking an hour for 4.5 - 5 kilometers (a little over 3 miles). I was reading the book Eat it Up! by Connie Stapleton which is a really interesting book for post op WLS patients and she recommended 60 - 90 minutes of exercise per day That said, I decided I could walk for an hour. So I did and so far it's paying off. Cherice Hooray!! 2.5 pounds after T-day - that is awesome! Labrys 4.5 pounds!! Wow! That's absolutely incredible -- and on top of it you are looking over the edge to ONDERLAND!!! Hooray!!! FatJuicyMouse -- you know, I was up .4 pounds and then down and then up for 3 weeks. It was really frustrating, so I completely sympathize. And as far as I was concerned I was doing everything right!! Just keep plugging away -- the body can't hold onto that darn fat forever! You know who will win the fat war in the end Have a great rest of the week everyone!

    A successful journey so far!

Irene -- you look absolutely fabulous -- the difference is incredible!! Don't you just feel awesome?? You look really great -- I'm so proud of you and can't wait for more updates Hugs! Julie
  22. Hi Everyone - I feel kinda awkward about being sad, but I need someone to give me a pep talk -- here it is -- As many of you know, I just moved to Paraguay to be with my husband who is a diplomat with the US govt. Ok, well, when you move to an Embassy, it's kinda like high school all over again. You have cliques, you have the "in" group, yada yada. So, it's Thanksgiving this week, and 2 weeks ago, we decided to invite people to our house because my two oldest children are in the States for Thanksgiving and it would be just the 3 of us. Well, after all the invites, we find out that EVERYONE has other plans and we were not included. I don't know if it was just oversight or what, but I'm so sad. And then on top of it, I haven't been losing any weight the past two weeks -- last week I gained .4 pounds (not a big deal, I know, and end of my period, etc.) but I've actually gone up another 1/2 pound this week. And I'm doing everything right -- exercise, Protein first, low carbs, all the Water. And the thing of it is, if I had not been sleeved, I would be eating over all of this. So my emotions are running wild -- I can't stop crying (I know it's a little over the top), I want to be able to say, "oh well, it's not a big deal" about Thanksgiving, but I just can't seem to do that. And I want to be able to say that as long as I'm doing the right thing, my weight will come off. I don't know if this makes any sense, but if any of you had any words of wisdom, I would really, really appreciate it!
  23. 60 minutes of fast-paced walking done (check), 2 liters of water drunk, one to go (check), protein first (check) -- pretty good day so far -- how about you guys?

  24. T-day is done -- it was 90 degrees down here in Paraguay -- it was a little weird to have it so warm, but it was still fun. Exercised for an hour with my 12 year old and looking forward to going out tonight :)

  25. Just got my car from customs here in Paraguay -- long 4 month wait for it. It sure is nice to drive myself around again :)
