    Eating out

I always order and bring stuff home -- usually my hubby will eat half of mine, but then I have half to bring home -- so, I save it for lunch the next day. Like today we went out to a German restaurant and (I LOVE LOVE LOVE German food) I ordered what I wanted knowing I'd reheat and eat tomorrow -- it was a steak wrapped around bacon and onions. Yum it was good. But I could eat 3 bites. sigh. I really really really wanted to pig out and eat the entire plate (which could have served 2) but my reality is like everyone else's here. sigh. I just always order steak and then I can bring it home and reheat and make it into steak sandwiches, steak salad, whatever.
  2. Ok, headed out for a day trip to San Bernadino in Paraguay -- will post some pics later :)

  3. I stopped my PPI at 3 months too -- no real problem with acid (a couple of days here and there and then I took the PPI) but I haven't had acid in weeks now. So I'm pretty happy with that. I'm eating 3 meal a day too -- but I do have a snack occasionally.
  4. Hey Chilo -- thanks for the comments -- I know how tough it is be away -- we're both wishing we could be at home. I think the holidays are the toughest time -- and you know that I have until mid February until my youngest goes back to school -- Asuncion is a dead place (easy to drive in though!) -- no one is here!! So we're going to the Yacht Club to join up -- so we can golf and play tennis. <3

  5. Ok, it is Friday and today I get to go and play golf!! I'm excited -- 1st time in 5 years and thanks to WLS, I think I might be able to go the distance :)

    Should I tell my dad??

You know, I have to agree with pumpkin. I have a college freshman myself. Even though he feels, and we want him to feel, that he is old enough and mature enough and responsible enough to be on his own, he is still our child. We are still paying for him to go to school, etc. And frankly, until he is paying his own way, we feel that he is obligated to treat us as though we had final say in important matters. If he had major surgery (which this is) and didn't tell me, I would be royally, royally pissed. Now, I TOTALLY understand why you didn't tell him, don't get me wrong. I really, really do. BUT Many years ago my Mother in law did not inform my husband and me about my father in law's surgery for colon cancer. It wasn't until after the surgery, after he had his colon completely removed and was being treated for invasive cancer did she let us know. I was pissed. This was someone I loved and I would have liked to have been there or at least been given the opportunity to pray. She thought she was doing us a favor by not having us worry. wrong. That said, I really understand why you and your mom decided not to tell your dad. I do think you will need to sit him down, find a day when he does not feel like he's being criticized, and ask him to listen and then you will listen to him. (Cars are a great place to do this in because both people are strapped in and have to listen.) Tell him 1) you were afraid of the criticism; 2) you felt you needed to do this for your health; 3) you've never felt better about yourself; 4) you hope that he will give you his support and love even though you know that withholding the information was probably not a good idea. Hopefully he will listen. You will have to listen to him too and accept the fact that he will feel angry and hurt. I promise you that in the end, it will be better -- a lie is always hard to overcome, but you can do it!! Let us know what happens -- hugs!
  10. I didn't have a catheter either. They stop you from eating and drinking well before the surgery, so there's not a lot left inside of you . . . and then when they put the IV in, they want to make sure everything is functioning, so they kept checking to see how much I peed, with measuring cup, etc. (gross). So no catheter.

    Average Weight???

Hey Globe -- don't know if you noticed, but he explains that "ideal" is the standard dr's chart -- not what people normally weigh. For example, my "ideal" is 145. Ha. I'm never going to weigh that. What people normally weigh who are my age and height is 188. I don't want to weigh that either (it's outside of normal BMI). But I think my goal of 165 is good (it's just a little under my normal BMI) and maybe if I'm lucky, I can get to 155. But in the 140s, ha. I was 140 when I was 18 which was almost 30 years ago. I think he gives the 2 extremes so you know where you lie, so to speak.
  12. Ok, I can now wear Victoria Secret's bras (yay me!) -- BUT, I have NO idea which bras are good, etc. I need some recommendations! I am a 38 D right now (my 42 DDs are huge on me) -- basically I need my girls to go up and together I would really appreciate any input because I have to order online (yep, sucks) -- so any guidance would be HIGHLY appreciated
  13. Oh! I forgot to say -- over the holidays I did allow myself to enjoy a two small bites of pie -- and some stuffing -- all those things are carbs. The following week was hell -- my head so wanted the sugar and the bread. But, from what I've researched, if you can "detox" yourself of the carbs for a week or so, you won't crave it as much. Hope that helps!
  14. Hey Lane -- no need to beat yourself up over the past -- what's in the past is in the past, now you just gotta look forward! I am 4 1/2 months out -- I eat basically an Atkins diet. Low carbs (30 grams or less) and at least 60 grams of Protein, and 64 ounces of Water. One rule I follow religiously is eating protein first. You'd be surprised if you ate protein first how much you DON'T want to eat the other stuff. I am starting to try to get a lot more fruits and veggies in (to help with the digestion - ahem) -- but otherwise, that's about it. I journal my food to help me figure out if I've gotten enough protein in. Sometimes I do go over my carbs, which is not a big deal to me as long as the carbs are processed, not sugar, etc. Essentially the carbs have to come out of the ground or off of a tree. I've also stopped obsessing about fat and calories because I exercise a lot. I've found that if I eat until I'm satisfied, then my calories are right where they should be . . go figure. I hope that helps -- I'm sure others can chime in with good info too
  15. Dawn, that was a great story -- and I too read the whole thing -- I know your frustration about not being able to talk to anyone -- my family is kinda sick of the "weight loss" talk now and so this board is about the only outlet I have -- so thank you so much for sharing -- it is amazing that we don't know how bad we were feeling before. Thanks! BIG HUGS!
  16. Oh my, talk about a little violent -- it's ok to be gung ho for your own weight loss surgery, but to want to "cut their vocal chords"?? wow.

    Food aware

Prior to the sleeve, I obsessed about food, I loved to cook, I guess my life revolved around when and where I was going to eat. And I LOVED to eat out. Now, I rarely think about food. I don't really like to cook, but since I"m the best at it in our family, I do it. ugh. I don't really care if we eat out or not -- I do order an entire plate for myself and my husband knows that he's required to eat what's leftover What has changed is my love affair with Water -- I usually have a couple of cups of coffee in the morning, but then I really want water. I don't know what it is -- before the sleeve I never thought about drinking very much -- I don't remember feeling like I needed to drink -- I loved drinking soda solely for the taste, but now I just want to drink! weirdness.

    Do you sleep hunger free?

I'm not hungry ever. BUT when I was first sleeved, I had HORRIBLE acid. And it used to keep me up -- so I made sure I ate something before I went to bed. It seemed to calm my stomach down enough so that I could sleep. Hope that helps!

    Rewards?

I just want good clothes -- I've been doing Lane Bryant for soooo long that I don't even know what my style is. sigh. So I think my reward will be to fly back to the States, and shop like Diva. I just am sooo looking forward to being "normal."
