What to eat after surgery
Energizer replied to vanessamarcella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on the type of procedure you're having. Your surgeon should give you instructions, too. -
Approval letter with date
Energizer replied to jennmonterrozo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Dear Jennmonterrozo, The insurance company can't tell the surgeon or the hospital what day to schedule the surgery for. They just specify a date of approval after which the surgery can be done. I know, confusing, isn't it? Call your surgeon's office and tell them what the insurance company said; the surgeon's office will schedule the surgery with the hospital and call you with the date. Good luck - you're off to a great start on your new healthy life! -
Foggy headed all the time
Energizer replied to DeltaD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dear DeltaD, As an RN and a post-gastric bypass patient, I can only say that it depends on what meds you stopped taking. Also, your surgeon should be the one advising you, and usually there is no need to stop taking ALL meds. Call your surgeon now, and report this foggy-headedness, and if your surgeon doesn't respond helpfully, call your primary doc and report your symptoms. You could end up very sick if you don't call now. They're being paid to help you through this, but you have to be proactive and call. -
Is my Pouch torn or leaking?
Energizer replied to Faith4theday's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think if you have a damaged pouch, you might have some symptoms such as pain, cramping, etc. And you probably gained for the same reason many of us do, returning to some old eating habits. (I eat bad things when I'm stressed, for example.) You'd feel better if you find a good bariatric surgeon, and just explain to the appointment clerk that you need a re-evaluation of your 11-year-old surgical pouch. The visit would clear up the question, and they might be able to start you on a new path to success. Good luck - you can do this! -

Hopefully by now you've contacted your surgeon again and told him or her that Reglan isn't helping. You have to keep up the communication - your surgeon needs to know. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

Penicillin post 5 month post op-----ouch!
Energizer replied to ImBringingLisaBack RNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call the doctor or NP now & tell them what's happening. They can't help you if they don't know. ☺ Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App -
I am on the bumpy road post-op from having a band to bypass revision, 2 weeks ago, and have made some discoveries very different from when I had the band placed. First, the weight loss is dramatic at first - I was shocked to find I lost 21 lbs in the first 2 weeks. I can see it in my face and my legs. Got to keep drinking those fluids so I don't lose way too fast! Second, the blood pressure meds just suddenly aren't that necessary, and may cause you to get dizzy when you stand up. I got mine discontinued yesterday because of that. I was surprised that these two changes happened so quickly. The third surprise (not so much fun) was the constipation. But with fluids, milk of magnesia and Miralax, it's resolving. To the original poster, yes, I say, go for it, you will be pleased with the outcome.

How soon do you put the silicone sheets on to reduce the scarring?

Thanks for your uplifting post! I'm having a band-to-bypass revision in five days (this Thursday) and it's great to hear you are doing so well. I had similar issues with the band, and am looking forward to a new life. Excited! ????

Thank you for your post! I am having a band-to-bypass revision Feb. 11, and am experiencing the same flood of emotions as you described - I just couldn't put it into words. Yes, it is a wonderful thing, to know we are on the road to health. I know there's a lot of work ahead, but I'm ready for the challenge, as I'm sure you are. Good luck to you on the 12th - you'll do just fine!

Thank you, Jean.. This makes sense. I was banded 3 years ago, and.even after multiple fills.and unfills, just couldn't tell when to stop eating. I.never lost weight. Now I know what my "soft stop" signals were. I'm currently unfilled, and am afraid to get a fill and risk all that PBing again.

Going tomorrow to discuss lapband removal
Energizer replied to Jazzy Rayne's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I seem to be in the same predicament. I was banded 3 years ago, and have not been able to tolerate any fills. Threw up with all of them. My band is a small one, and I scar very easily. I feel a slight restriction even with no fill. The result is OK - I eat smaller servings now, and healthier foods. But I have not lost weight due to constant grazing, and no exercise. However, that's another few threads I need to visit. Just wanted to share that maybe just having the band in place is a good restriction for some of us. Anybody have thoughts on this? -
Most of my problems like that have happened when I didn't chew long enough. Now, when I'm ready to swallow, I keep chewing for at least another 15-30 seconds. Especially if I know it's a troublesome texture.
